  TIERIENDIERIEL MEREVALIA—Sunchild who granted Arithon Teir’s’Ffalenn’s request to be freed of Desh-thiere’s Curse in Third Age 5671.

  pronounced: tee-er-ee-en-dee-er-el mer-e-vah-lee-a

  root meaning: tierien – female successor to power; dieriel – queen; miere – reflection; val – straight; ia – suffix for “the third domain” (three octaves of vibration)

  TOLGRATH—mighty span built by Ilitharis Paravian masons, that crossed the strait between Havistock and Lithmere, thrown down in the First Age by Havkiel Haltfoot’s wrath when Seardluin invaded from the east and destroyed all of his kin living in Lithmere. A standing stone marks the site.

  root meaning: tolgrath – arch

  TORBRAND s’FFALENN—founder of the s’Ffalenn line appointed by the Fellowship of Seven to rule the High Kingdom of Rathain in Third Age Year One.

  pronounced: tor-brand sfall-en

  root meaning: tor – sharp, keen; brand – temper; ffael – dark; an – one

  TORWENT—fishing town and smuggler’s haven located on the coast of Lanshire, Havish, just south of the border. Descendants of many outbred clan lineages live there since the exodus to escape persecution under Lysaer s’Ilessid the pretender in Third Age 5653.

  pronounced: tore-went

  root meaning: tor – sharp; wient – bend

  TRAITHE—Sorcerer of the Fellowship of Seven. Solely responsible for the closing of South Gate to deny further entry to the Mistwraith. Traithe lost most of his faculties in the process and was left with a limp. Since it is not known whether he can make the transfer into discorporate existence with his powers impaired, he has retained his physical body.

  root meaning: traithe – gentleness

  TRUE SECT—offshoot branch faith of the Religion of Light formed after the Great Schism, when the avatar turned apostate to the doctrine in Third Age 5683.

  TUORAM—Ettin code of responsibility that assigns privilege through honour.

  pronounced: too-ar-um

  root meaning: tuoram – ladder

  TYSAN—one of the Five High Kingdoms of Athera as defined by the charters of the Fellowship of Seven. Ruled by the s’Ilessid royal line. Device: gold star on blue field.

  pronounced: tie-san

  root meaning: tiasen – rich

  VALENDALE RIVER—located in South Tysan, emptying into Mainmere Bay.

  pronounced: va-len

  root meaning: valen – braided

  VALENFORD—town located in south Tysan, on the barge route at the River Valendale.

  pronounced: va-len

  root meaning: valen – braided

  VALIEN—Vivet Daldari’s son, born at Ettinmere Settlement in Third Age 5924.

  pronounced: val-ee-en

  root meaning: val – straight; lien – to love

  VALLEYGAP—a narrow vale where the trade-road between Etarra and Werpoint notches the north end of the Skyshiel Mountains, and the site of Pesquil’s death in Jieret Red-beard’s devastating ambush when the Light’s forces marched on campaign in Third Age 5645.

  VASTMARK—principality located in south-western Shand. Highly mountainous and not served by trade-roads. Its coasts are renowned for shipwrecks. Inhabited by nomadic shepherds and wyverns, non-fire-breathing, smaller relatives of Khadrim. Site of the grand massacre of Lysaer’s war host in Third Age 5647.

  pronounced: vast-mark

  root meaning: vhast – bare; mheark – valley

  VERRAIN—master spellbinder, trained by Luhaine; stood as Guardian of Mirthlvain when the Fellowship of Seven was left short-handed after the conquest of the Mistwraith.

  pronounced: ver-rain

  root meaning: ver – keep; ria – touch; an – one original Paravian: verria’an

  VHALZEIN—town located in West Shand, shore of Rockbay Harbour, near the border of Havish, famed for black lacquer and mother-of-pearl-inlaid furniture.

  pronounced: val-zeen

  root meaning: from Drakish, vhchalzckeen – white sands

  VICIENNA—Princess of West Shand, wept for the fallen when the first cordon restraining Desh-thiere was broken in West Shand.

  Pronounced: vee-see-an-a

  Root meaning: vie – tame; cian – spark; a – female diminutive

  VIVET DALDARI—a young woman from Ettinmere Settlement who ran away from home at the age of fourteen years, seeking her fortune and the opportunity to learn to read.

  pronounced: vee-vet dahl-dar-ee

  root meaning: vivet – bait; dal – fair; diere – life

  WASP—a trade galleass, chartered for moving cargo on the southcoast.

  WARDEN OF ALTHAIN—alternative title for the Fellowship Sorcerer, Sethvir, who received custody of Althain Tower and the powers of the earth-link from the last centaur guardian to leave the continent of Paravia in Third Age 5100. Prior to then, the titled post was held by a Paravian.

  WAYSTONE—spherical-cut amethyst used by the Koriathain to channel the full power of all enchantresses in their order, lost during the great rebellion that threw down the rule of the High Kings, and recovered from Fellowship custody by Lirenda in Third Age 5647. Cleared and re-mapped, after Arithon’s arranged sabotage, which infiltrated a stray iyat into the stone’s matrix in 5671.

  WEST HALLA—principality located in Melhalla.

  Pronounced: hall-ah

  Root meaning: hal’lia – white light

  WESTLANDS—originally a term for the western kingdoms of Tysan, Havish, and West Shand. Evolved to mean a specific set of mannered customs mostly practised in Tysan after the great uprising that threw down the High Kings in Third Age 5015.

  WEST SHAND—An adjunct territory including the free wilds of Falwood, once left exclusively to the Paravians in the Third Age, and protected from Mankind’s encroachment by Shand’s Heir Apparent. Annexed to the High Kingship of Shand, after the old races formally abdicated in Third Age 5100.

  pronounced: rhymes with “hand”

  root meaning: shayn or shiand – pair or partner

  WHITEHAVEN—hostel of Ath’s Adepts, located in the Skyshiel Mountains, near Eastwall, Rathain, where Elaira received advanced training as a healer, outside of Koriani precepts.

  WHITEHOLD—city located on the shore of Eltair Bay in East Halla, Melhalla.

  WILLOWBROOK—A small stream located in Halwythwood, Rathain, site of Arithon and Elaira’s tryst that incited a grand confluence in Third Age 5671.

  WORLDSEND GATES—four energetic portals leading offworld, located on the continent of Paravia, one at each compass point. Constructed by the Fellowship Sorcerers early in the Third Age, functionally tied into establishment of the Compact.
