“Wait, you’re moving?”
“I don’t know. I haven’t told anyone yet, not even Kyle. I guess I’m just waiting for it to actually happen first.” I confessed.
“That’s, uh…quite a surprise.”
“I’m not exactly loading up my SUV just yet.” I laughed but I felt sad instantly. Not just for me, but for Kyle. He was really going to miss Sean.
“Yeah, I know. It’s just, I’m going to really miss that kid.” Sean said.
“Yeah, he’ll miss you too.”
“So, what’s the job?”
“I’ll be working for Maddison Hotels.”
“What? We just made a proposal to them recently. We’re hoping to the gig but they still are up in the air.” Sean said.
“Whether or not I decide to take the job, I’ll be sure to tell my old boss about it. I’m sure she’ll help you guys out.”
“No, I meant that if we got the account, we might end up in the same city as you.” Sean said as he subconsciously grabbed my hand.

After our Monday mid-morning meeting, Luke approached Beth and I, “Hey, beautiful.” He said.
“Are you talking to me?” Beth asked.
“I just wanted to let you know that there is a table waiting for us at lunch time.”
“Nice. I’ll meet you downstairs.” Beth agreed.
“Great! You’re looking good, Bridgette.” Luke winked at me.
“Uh, thanks Luke? Hey, Beth, what’s the deal with you and Luke?” I asked.
“I don’t know. Luke likes taking me to lunch and I think he’s kind of fun.” Beth replied.
“More fun than Sean?”
“Bridgette, about Sean. I think he’s meant for someone else.”
“Why do you say that?”
“Well, what if a guy never actually sees the real you, because he doesn’t want to ruin the fantasy he created.” Beth explained.
“Who are you talking about, Sean or my secret admirer? No, wait, I’m sorry I changed the conversation about me. Look, Beth, men like him don’t come around every day. I’d just hate to see you do something you regret.” I pleaded.
“Yeah, I’m trying not to.”
When I got back to my office after lunch, I contacted Monica who was now in Chicago and took her up on her offer in joining her there and I also told her about the promotional pitch that Sean and his business partner had recently given to Maddison Hotels.
I also gave Vince my letter of resignation and although he seemed disappointed in my choice, he didn’t really inquire as to why I was leaving. It was then that I knew that I was making the right decision in leaving. As I packed up my belongings into several boxes, I went downstairs to pack them into my SUV one-by-one.
I ended up running into Sean in the lobby, “Sean, what are you doing here?”
“I came to talk to Beth, I’ve been trying to get a hold of her for day but I also wanted to stop by and thank you personally. I just got a call from someone at Maddison Hotels and they said Patrick and I got the gig!”
“Wow, congratulations. I am so happy for you.”
“So, you’re actually leaving?” Sean asked.
“Yeah, I just quit today. There’s no going back now. Oh, hey I forgot to tell you. Guess where I’m taking Kyle for his birthday?”
“Where?”
“I’m taking him to Water Zone.” I said excitedly.
“Oh, man. He’s going to freak out. I wish I could be there to see the excitement on his face. Anyway, safe travels. Tell Kyle I said goodbye, he’s going to be a ball player in no time. I hope I get to see you in Chicago.” Sean said and hugged me goodbye.
It took at least a couple of weeks for me to make living arrangements in Chicago and to be able to also make arrangements for the moving company I hired to pack up all of our belongings and pack it into their truck. The smaller things, I had decided to load them into my SUV and take them with me especially the more valuable items that I owned.
When I was nearly finished with loading up my SUV and Kyle’s complaints about moving to Chicago, Beth ran up to me quickly. She looked frantic.
“Beth, what is it?”
“I know who your secret admirer is.”
“What?” I asked confused.
“Bridgette, your secret admirer is Sean.”
“Sean?”
“Everything that he said he loved about me in email was actually you the whole time.”
“Does he know about this?” I asked. I didn’t know what to think about the news. Here I was packing up my entire life and Kyle’s life and starting fresh in Chicago only to find out that my Secret Admirer that I had grown to care about was Sean the entire time whom I cared about as well.
“No, I wanted to tell you first.”
“Um, can we just keep it that way. Look, there’s so much I’ve got to do so I’m going to have to say goodbye.” My eyes started tearing up as I hug Beth goodbye.
While on the road, Kyle and I stopped at a restaurant to have a late lunch and I wanted to make sure that they knew it was his birthday so they could celebrate it with a song and a birthday cupcake.
“Do you want to know what I wished for?” Kyle asked.
“If you tell me it’s not going to come true,” I advised him.
“Says who?” Kyle challenged.
“I don’t know, but that’s what everyone says.” I shrugged.
“Then tell me what you would have wished for, mom. You can tell me.”
After the late lunch, we hit the road until Kyle noticed that we were on our way to Water Zone.
“Mom, look its Water Zone! Thanks, mom. This is the best birthday ever!” Kyle shouted from the back seat.
“Kyle, sweetheart. I just want to make sure that since you built this place up in your head for a long time that you won’t get disappointed.”
“I won’t! Come on.” Kyle shouted as he ran towards the entrance and into an all-white dog barking at him. “Mom, look.”
“Kyle, be careful.”
“Oh, mom. He’s nice and friendly. He’s all white!”
I caught up to Kyle and he was already on his knees petting the all-white dog. I wondered where he came from and who he belonged to only to see Sean standing there at the entrance.
“Sean!” Kyle shouted as soon as he saw Sean and ran to him. Sean lifted Kyle high in the hair and spun him around before setting him back down again.
“Hey, Kid. I’m sorry for crashing your birthday but I distinctly remember an invitation.”
“Cool! I’m going to play with your dog for a while.” Kyle beamed proudly and ran back to Sean’s dog, Corey.
Sean turned to look at me directly as he approached me, “So, do you believe in true luck or true love?”
“I’m starting to think that I believe in a little bit of both?” I guessed.
“Good,” Sean murmured as he pulled me into his arms and kissed me deeply. It was the first for us and it felt right. When he finally released me, he looked at Kyle. “Shall we check this place out?”
“Yeah!” Kyle agreed. “Hey mom, my wish came true!”
“Oh, about Water Zone?” I guessed.
“Yeah, that too!” Kyle giggled.
