Driving through the town brought better memories to her mind than the ones that had haunted her last time she came home. Except for her marriage to Wayne, her life here had been a good one.
Enough, she thought. Rehashing the past was not her style. Besides, she proved to herself and anyone else paying attention she didn’t need a man. Especially not gorgeous, complicated men, and especially, definitely, not bossy men that made her lose herself in their eyes while they bossed you around. Nope. Not going to happen.
“Bossy” was the wrong word to describe Dr. Nick Armstrong. It made him sound like a weak, gossipy sort. Utterly arrogant, confident, and demanding were more accurate. It was going to be a challenge working with him. Her stomach did a flip flop at the thought.
The slice of moon revealed in the pitch black sky only added to the surreal feeling stealing over her. It hung suspended in black like a lamp lit just for her. She was home...or as close to home as she had ever been in the last four years. She nodded to herself. She looked forward to working at that hospital, despite its grimy exterior and Nick Armstrong. He was about to find out that she wasn’t that innocent girl that he so easily forgot.
