  Chapter 8

  Two Months Later

Cameron was sitting there thinking about the emotional roller coaster ride she had been on these last few months. Her and Keith had broken up and made up more times than she could even count. The make-up sex was always the bomb, so she smiled at the memories. Keith complained more and more about wanting to be with Cameron, but she kept giving him the same excuse about it not being the right the time to leave. They constantly went in circles. Malcolm found out last month that he was on child support and shit hit the fan. Cameron had originally told him that it must be that Nikki Johnson bitch who had put him on child support when he confronted her, but then she got pissed when she thought about him even being with that nasty ass hoe and told him the truth. “Your coward ass sent a DNA truck on wheels to our front door and embarrassed the fuck outta me when you could’ve gotten a test when Kingston was born, so yeah, I put your black ass on child support,” she told him.

“So you think I’m gon be paying child support to my WIFE in my own house?” he asked her. “If you want to, you can divorce me and move out if that’ll make you feel better, but the child support gon get paid,” she snapped back. Malcolm was so pissed off. He was paying his own wife almost two thousand dollars a month in child support and living in the same damn house. “I should’ve fucked your sister every time she put the pussy on a platter,” Malcolm said under his breath so that Cameron couldn’t understand him, and walked out of the house. Cameron asked him to repeat himself, but he simply ignored her. Both Malcolm and Keith had an attitude about her going on this trip with her girls, swearing she was going to meet a man or something. Cameron snapped out of her thoughts when Shay started singing to the top of her lungs.

“I was just minding my business when

  Ms. Pretty you came walking

My heart stopped said what is this just

As soon as you started talking

Something happened deep within me, well

All of a sudden I got this feeling

A chill came from feet to head and then I

Turned away from you and said to myself

This is not supposed to happen brother you’ve been hurt

Too many times before First I tripped, then I slipped, then I fell

  You made me love you

You made me love you babe, made me love you babe”

  Yaahhhsss this my shit!

Shay sang for the rest of the ride and time flew right on by. They were almost in Panama and looking forward to having a fun-filled weekend with no drama.

They checked into their condo and everyone was satisfied with the view. It was breathtakingly beautiful. Each bedroom had its own full bath, the kitchen was very spacious with a marble island in the middle, and the living room and den were decorated exquisitely and were spacious as well. The girls had no complaints whatsoever. “Let’s walk down to the beach. I’m ready to feel the sand between my toes,” Shay said.

“Eww, I’m so not doing that,” Sonya said.

“Now I know yo ass ain’t scared to scared to walk barefoot in the sand, but will jump out of a plane, or whatever the hell you signed us up to do tomorrow,” Toya said.

“I ain’t scared, it just sounds yucky,” Sonya replied.

“Well, you’ll be alright. Come on, let’s change and go down. We didn’t come here to sleep, we came to have fun,” Toya said.

Everyone changed into their bathing suits. After taking a few shots, and making some daiquiris, they made their way down to the beach. Cameron and Toya had picked up theirs from Neiman Marcus and Shay and Sonya got theirs from Saks Fifth Avenue. The two-piece bathing suits, and colors they chose, looked great on them. Black and white on Cameron, yellow on Toya, orange on Sonya and Shay had on peach. They found a stranger to take a couple of pictures of them to post on Facebook and Instagram, and then made their way to the sand.

“This isn’t too bad after all,” Sonya said. Everyone started laughing at her.

“I wonder if it’s not bad because of those shots you took or what?” Shay asked while still laughing. After they walked around on the beach for a while and took pictures in the water, they made their way to the pool and got in for about an hour. Just as they were about to get out, Toya noticed a guy standing in the distance that looked like Keith. I gotta be tripping; it must be the liquor, she thought to herself. Cameron kept saying she needed to go check her phone so they all got out and went back up to shower.

Once everyone showered, they decided they would play a few drinking games. The first game they decided to play was a game called I never have. Some of the questions came from Google, but most were asked by each of them from the top of their heads. In the game, you have to take a shot when someone says something that you’ve actually done. Poor Shay had taken about seven shots before everyone else had one. “Damn freak,” Toya said to her while laughing. They all cried laughing at Sonya when she tried to stand up and fell back down. Cameron took the least amount of shots, but they all told her she wasn’t playing the game right. Cameron’s phone rang for the millionth time and she got up and left the room to talk. When she came back her lips were poked out. “What’s wrong, Cam?” Shay asked.

“Keith is starting to act as stupid as Malcolm,” she told them.

“Oh lord. I can’t believe your side nigga stressing you out. I saw somebody that looked like him as we were getting outta the pool. I guess he got a look-a-like. Isn’t he getting married the weekend of the fourth anyway? Are y’all really gonna keep doing this forever?” Toya asked.

“Where you get that from?” Cameron asked.

“You mean he hasn’t told you? One of my coworkers who knows Phebe got an invitation to the wedding. She asked me if I wanted to go with her, but I declined. I’m not getting in that shit,” Toya said. Cameron started pouting.

“Cam, you do have a husband. You do realize that, right?” Shay said.

“I didn’t say that to spoil the mood so let’s all take another shot and cheer up,” Toya said while connecting her phone to the wireless speaker. The first song that came on was a classic by Whitney Houston. By the time the chorus started, everyone was up dancing.

“Oh, I wanna dance with somebody

I wanna feel the heat with somebody

Yeah, I wanna dance with somebody

  With somebody who loves me

Oh, I wanna dance with somebody

I wanna feel the heat with somebody

Yeah, I wanna dance with somebody

  With somebody who loves me”

The music was just what they needed to change the mood, if only for a little while. It served its purpose and everyone relaxed and went with the flow. Cameron even ignored her constant ringing phone.

“Don’tcha wanna dance with me baby

Don’tcha wanna dance with me boy

Hey Don’tcha wanna dance with me baby

  With somebody who loves me

Don’tcha wanna dance say you wanna dance

  Don’tcha wanna dance

They stayed up dancing and singing for almost two more hours until everyone finally passed out.

The next morning, Cameron got up and cooked breakfast for everyone. She prepared bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, and pancakes. “I didn’t know you could cook, Cam,” Shay said while smacking on a piece of bacon. They all ate, got full, then got ready to make some moves. The day was fun and very eventful. The first place the girls stopped at was a place to sky dive, but the line was ridiculously long, and everyone was relieved except Sonya. No one really wanted to skydive, but they were all willing to parasail so they went there next. Sonya had done this before, and since Cameron was likely to back out, she was paired with Sonya. Toya and Shay watched them go eight hundred feet into the sky and took pictures of them. “You know we can’t be no punks and back out, right,” Toya said to Shay.

“I’m ready,” Shay replied. They all made it through parasailing and actually loved it. It felt so exhilarating. There was a guy on the
boat taking pictures and they bought the disc when they were done. The rest of the day consisted of zip lining, going to a water park, eating, and going to a club that night. Cameron was dressed in a red Vince Camuto sleeveless jumper and some leopard-print wedges with gold accessories to set it off. Toya was rocking a black strapless, fitted dress and stilettos, both by Robert Cavalli. Shay had on a green strapless mini-dress by Michael Kors with the matching clutch, and of course heels. Sonya was the last to get ready that night and she stepped out in a one-shoulder backless, yellow jump suit by Fendi with some black and gold stilettos by Fendi as well. Everyone was looking fierce.

The club ended up being a white club, but everyone made the best of it, especially Shay. You just couldn’t pay that girl to believe that she couldn’t sing and dance. She had the white dudes circled around her like she was Beyonce or somebody. Keith called Cameron while they were at the club and told her that he had to make a run that was near Panama and wanted to see her. “Damn, so that was that nigga at the pool, wasn’t it?! You got two crazy motherfuckers on your hand girl. Damn!” Toya said to Cameron. “Nah, he said he just came today,” Cameron replied.

“Believe that bullshit if you want to,” Toya said. They all partied a little while longer, then decided it was time to go since they were leaving the next day.

No one was really ready to leave the next morning, but they all knew it was time to go back home and face reality. Each of them was dealing with their own personal problems, so this vacation was just what they needed. “Since I drove all the way here, someone else is driving back,” Toya said while hopping in the passenger seat after they put their luggage in the trunk. They closed out the trip by eating at a highly recommended seafood place and then hit the road. Cameron ended up driving home. When they were an hour away from home, she blurted out that she was about to take the next exit and visit the psychic she just saw on the billboard. Everyone laughed and thought she was playing until she actually took the exit. “You’re really serious?” Toya asked while sitting straight up.

“Yep, serious as a heart attack,” Cameron replied.

“What you wanna know, because I can tell you for half the price,” Toya said. Shay and Sonya laughed and agreed. When Cameron pulled up Shay asked if she wanted everyone to go in with her. She said it didn’t matter, so everyone decided to get out so they could see what was really about to happen. When they went in and the lady saw that only Cameron wanted a palm reading she made the other girls wait out front. “This is a bunch of bullshit,” Toya said out loud, but she was really talking more so to herself. Shay and Sonya agreed, but Shay was silently wondering if she should get a reading too. Cameron came out about ten minutes later and they all went back and got in the car. “Well, that was quick. What did you find out?” Shay asked. “She told me that there is a special man in my life,” Cameron said.

“Man or men,” Toya said while cracking up laughing.

“And she said I was gonna have a baby and start a new career,” Cameron continued. “Maannn, how much she charge you for that bullshit,” Shay asked.

“One hundred dollars,” Cameron said. ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS, all of the girls screamed in unison. “Girl you are crazier than I thought,” Toya said while laughing and shaking her head. “Cameron, I could’ve told you that shit she fed you,” Sonya said.

“I see that now. She even said I was gonna get married, and my ass already married, whether I wanna be or not,” Cameron said. They laughed at Cameron’s expense the rest of the ride home.

  Chapter 9

When Cameron made it home the only thing she wanted to do was take a shower and go to bed. Malcolm had made it home the day before and she knew he would have other plans. Cameron went ahead and popped three pills before she got in the shower so she could be ready. Kingston was already asleep, but she went and gave him a kiss before going into the bathroom. She turned the shower on jet stream and let the hot flow of water massage her skin. Thoughts of touching herself in the shower entered her mind, but she decided she might as well wait since she knew Malcolm would be ready and waiting.

To her surprise, Malcolm was already asleep when she got out of the shower and she was shocked by her disappointment. She was really horny and wanted something inside of her so she tried to wake him up, but he didn’t budge. This motherfucker, she said to herself. She reached into the bottom drawer of the nightstand and pulled out her little toy. “You have come through on many nights, so don’t fail me now,” she said. Normally she wouldn’t do this with Malcolm in the bed with her, but she said fuck it and pleasured herself. She released within minutes and rolled over and went to sleep.

As soon as Cameron made it to work the next day, Keith called her, but she couldn’t answer at the moment so he followed up with a text.

Keith: For the last two months all I have been getting badgered about is whether or not Kingston is my son. Phebe said he looks more like me than your husband and I really have to agree.

Cameron: You know what all Malcolm put me through to get a blood test so how can you even say that? And Kingston looks like my mom and you know it!!

Keith: I don’t know, she said we need to get our own test

Cameron: Have you lost your fucking mind? HE IS NOT YOUR SON!!!!!

Cameron: Shouldn’t you be worried about your wedding that’s coming up anyway. You thought I wasn’t gonna hear about it? (It had taken everything in her not to say anything about the wedding until now. She was crushed when Toya told them that night)

Keith: I just found out the date myself. She’s been planning everything with her mom and friends. I don’t know shit. She wants a blood test before we get married.

Cameron: Fuck y’all and a blood test. Either she gon marry yo ass or she ain’t. My son ain’t got shit to do with it.

Cameron put her phone to the side and tried to busy herself with a case that needed to be complete by noon, but it was hard because Keith had fucked up her morning. Just as she was about to pick up the phone to call and cuss him out, a text message came through.

Anonymous: BE A REAL WOMAN FOR ONCE IN YOUR LIFE AND GIVE US A BLOOD TEST!!

“I know this bitch ain’t texting me,” Cameron said to herself. She was about to text her back and cuss her out, but she decided to just forward a few of the text messages Keith had sent her about how much he loved her and how his heart would always be hers, no matter what. She made sure to send the one when he told her that he really didn’t want to marry Phebe, but since the love of his life was already married, he really didn’t have a choice, and he felt like he owed her since she had put up with all of his shit. Take that bitch, Cameron thought after she forwarded a few messages that she knew would piss her off. That should shut her up for the moment, Cameron thought, totally forgetting about almost losing her life because of the last messages she sent.

  Chapter 10

Cameron and Malcolm’s four year wedding anniversary rolled around and she wouldn’t have even thought about the date if she wouldn’t have gotten a notification that someone had written on her Facebook wall. Before she could delete that post, someone else wrote on her wall so she just said fuck it and left it there. It was a Friday and Cameron had plans to just chill out this weekend. She and Keith had broken up once again and she was in one of her moods where she didn’t want to be bothered. She had no idea that Malcolm was on his way home to surprise her and had totally different plans.

He was planning on leaving early the next morning and taking her and Kingston to Six Flags. Right before lunch she received a delivery from one of the local florists. It was a bouquet of lilies, an assortment of candy, and a card from Malcolm. Neither of them had mentioned their anniversary to each other and she hadn’t talked to him that morning yet, so she was surprised. She decided to call and tell him thank you. “Hey honey, happy anniversary,” he said as soon as he answered the phone. “Happy Anniversary, thanks for the delivery. I have something just for you when I see you;” she said in seductive voice, thinking she had another
whole week to spare. “Wooo, that’s what I’m talking about,” he said, as he sped up so he could get home and get everything packed and ready so that Cameron would only have to get in the car and ride the next morning. “Where are you anyway, still out west?” Cameron asked him. “Yeah, out here in the desert, bout to burn up,” he said to her.

“Well, you be safe. I just wanted to call and say thanks;” she told him and hung up.

Cameron decided to stay in for lunch because she wasn’t in a really good mood. The other girls were meeting up at Restaurant Tyler, but she texted and told them that she would catch them the next time.

Cameron: I’ll catch y’all later. I’m staying in for lunch today.

Shay: I was just about to text you, Happy Anniversary. I saw someone write on your Facebook wall.

  Sonya: Happy Anniversary Cam!!

Toya: It is your anniversary. I knew it was near. Happy Anniversary!!

Shay: I don’t know how we forgot this date lol! What y’all doing for it?

  Cameron: Thanks ladies!!

Cameron: Shit!! Malcolm did just have some flowers and a card delivered but he’s still on the road and I’m glad because I just wanna chill this weekend.

Toya: That was sweet of his crazy ass I guess. What’s wrong with you?

Cameron: Just got a lot on my mind. I’m straight though.

Toya: Let me find out you moping around because Keith’s wedding date is coming up

Shay: Oh lord, that’s not what’s wrong is it Cam. You skipping lunch with us because you in your feelings about Keith get married?

  Cameron: No that’s not it

Toya: If you say so. Don’t do anything crazy, Malcolm probably gonna pop up anyway lol

Cameron: I sure as hell hope not. I’ll catch y’all later though, enjoy lunch.
