Fortress of Love Page 16

by Ann Nichols

Programs flapped in the breeze as Anastasia strummed the first few chords of the song. She sang the first part of each line and the congregation joined in for the alleluias.

The beautiful Acropolis of Athens, one of the strongest fortresses made by men, stood in all its marbled splendor as the sun poked its golden head above the honey-scented mountains surrounding the ancient city and sent its rays to the believers—from Asia, Australia, the two Americas, Europe, and Africa—who were gathered together singing and celebrating the resurrection of the Son of God.

In the light of the newborn, a bee buzzed in front of Luke’s eyes.

He squeezed Melissa closer to him and gently waved the insect away.

He would always protect Melissa, but it was a relief to know that he wasn’t the only one who was responsible for her.

Luke Karalis smiled at the Easter sky, looked up toward heaven, toward his Savior, toward his Fortress of Love, and he sang, “Alleluia!”

  About the Author

Ann Nichols was born in Richmond, Virginia, currently resides in Athens, Greece with her husband of nineteen years; their two teenage children, Sara and Jay; a German shepherd dog and a Siamese cat. Melanie has done extensive research into the early Christian and medieval period of history and has published numerous articles on both subjects, something which is reflected in her books. To be where the early Christians and especially that great Apostle to the Gentiles, Paul, worked and lived has inspired her greatly. She has spent many weekends with her family exploring little-known sites and many a winter morning sifting through dusty, but fantastic books, at some of the wonderful, old libraries Athens has to offer.

  Dedication

With love to my mother and father, Sara and Sayre Karis
