Heather put her head down, and I could see tears streaming down her cheeks. “I never meant to hurt Clark. I…love him,” she said as she raised her head and wiped her face clean of tears. “I couldn’t let the election happen without the American people knowing the truth. Whatever happens to me is secondary. Senator Crosby is a good man, deserves to be the president, and didn’t deserve having to ever meet me.” Heather stood up and rushed off the screen with more tears trailing down her face.

Bruce and Fred turned back to see me standing there. Bruce winked, and Fred gave me a thumbs up. Things were turning around for my campaign, but I still felt horrible. I didn’t know what to think about Heather…

  Chapter Nine

It was Election Day, and my mind was running in circles. I couldn’t shut my brain off last night, so I barely got any sleep. All I could think about was Clark and that interview. I just prayed that somehow everything worked out for him. I guess I did everything I could…after totally screwing everything up.

I looked over at my clock. It was almost noon already. I didn’t know what to do with myself, so I just continued to lie there. I had only gotten out of bed once all morning. My life was pretty much over. I’d ruined everything with Clark. I was never going to get my master’s. And how was I ever going to get another job?

I heard a noise coming from the other side of my apartment. It persisted, so I dragged myself out of bed and put a robe on. As I got closer, I realized there was someone knocking on my door. I opened the door a couple of seconds later to find no one. I looked down to see a bag from Inganno’s.

Clark peeked from around the corner. “Hi,” he said as he slowly walked over with his hands in his pockets.

  “Hi,” I said tentatively.

  “How about some lunch?”

Though my stomach was in knots and I wasn’t hungry, I wasn’t going to pass up possibly my last opportunity to see him. “Sounds good.”

Clark bent down and picked up the bag of food. “Can I come in?” he asked.

I stepped back and motioned for him to come inside. “Sorry. The place is probably a bit of a mess. I haven’t found the motivation to—”

My sentence was cut off by his mouth meeting mine. Somehow we never actually got to eat.

I pulled away from him, consumed with the need to apologize. “I’m so sorry,” I said with tears welling in my eyes. “I didn’t know what to do.”

Clark smiled and wiped the tears from my eyes with the side of a finger. “I for one am glad they talked you into infiltrating my life,” he admitted to me. He then pulled me in for an embrace. “I love you too,” he said, replying to my declaration in the interview.

I could do nothing but smile. “I voted for you,” I whispered.

“Me too.” His hands went inside my robe and around to my backside.

I pulled away. “Would you mind if I got cleaned up a little bit? I haven’t showered.”

  “Not a problem.”

Heather walked away from me. She paused for a second and dropped her robe behind her, exposing a thong on the ass I was reaching for just a moment ago. She made a right turn into her bathroom.

I could see her exposed breasts as she made the turn. That was enough for me. I strolled to the bathroom as I heard the shower curtain close and the water start running. It was my turn to disrobe. I then got into the shower with Heather.

As I stepped towards her, she wrapped her arms around my neck and leaned into me with a kiss. Her tongue searched my mouth, and then she bit my lip. She suddenly slunk down in front of me and…started scrubbing her legs.

With a smirk on my face at the little tease I gave him, I reached up and grabbed his cock. He groaned as I put it in my mouth. My tongue danced along the length as I moved it in and out of the tight grip of my lips.

It wasn’t long before he reached down and helped me to my feet. His left hand went to my nether regions as his mouth went to my right breast.

I spun around in his grasp, grinding my ass against his erection as he continued to touch me with his left hand.

His right hand then came around to my breasts, going back and forth as if it was conflicted on which one it wanted more. He then bent me over slightly and reached out of the shower for something. He took his necktie and bound my wrists to the showerhead. As I was staring in fascination and approval at the red scrap of fabric, he inserted himself into me from behind.

It had been a long two weeks since we’d been together. Neither one of us had the patience for a slow coupling. He furiously slammed into me, and I graciously pushed back against him. He then reached around to stroke my clit, his fingers urging me to reach my peak quickly. I let my head fall back against his shoulder as I breathlessly wished for him to do the same.

Thankfully, it didn’t take long for either of us to climax. He groaned in my ear at his completion as my own final moans escaped me.

  Chapter Ten

It was 1 A.M. the next day, and the vote was still too close to call. I had heard that some didn’t believe Heather’s story, thought that I paid her off. I couldn’t blame anybody. It was tough to decipher the truth in politics to begin with. I was just grateful that Heather gave me a fighting chance in this election. Win or lose, at least I’d have her by my side.

We were all camped around the television at my campaign headquarters. The numbers showed that if I could win the 11 Electoral College votes from Arizona, I would officially become president of the United States. The consensus on the news was that due to my poor showing in the Phoenix debate there, I was unlikely to get the votes needed. Everyone quieted down as the news came back from a commercial break.

“The results are in for Arizona.”

My fate was apparently in Ron Reddin’s hands. He held a piece of paper someone just handed him from off-screen-ville.

“I, Ron Reddin, will be announcing the next President of the United States of America…”

He paused. Why did he have to drag this out?

“This announcement is brought to you by the GWF’s…”

What the hell? If I won this, the first thing I was doing was getting rid of stupid sponsorships for every little thing.

“With an astonishing turn of events in the last few weeks, Senator Jim Tree…”

I couldn’t believe it. That sleazy bastard still managed to win. I turned and started to walk away. Heather was holding my hand tighter than a vice, and she pulled me back to her side.

“…has become the first member of the Family Tree to lose a presidential election. Senator Clark Crosby will be President Clark Crosby this January!”

“You did it!” Heather said as she jumped up into my arms and kissed me.

“We did it,” I said. “Thank you.”

A tear glistened in the corner of her left eye.

Before I could wipe it away, Jake ran over and jumped up into my arms and kissed me on the cheek. He reached over to a table and grabbed a bottle of champagne.

As he was struggling to open it, I was confronted by news reporter Brittany Stabler. “Senator Crosby…” she started.

POP! The cork of the champagne bottle came flying out and hit the reporter in the eye. She was okay but had to sit down.

Jake took the opportunity to introduce himself to her. He sat down next to her and put his arm around her shoulders to comfort her. He turned to me and gave a thumbs up. “She’s so hot,” he mouthed in my direction with a grin.

I rolled my eyes at Jake once again, but I couldn’t argue with him anymore. I turned to Heather and pulled her into me. “Hello, Miss First Lady,” I said as I leaned my head against hers. He did tell me I needed a running mate. I was so grateful I’d found one.
