“Look, we can sit here and argue all fucking day about nonsense or we can get to New York City in one piece without killing each other.”
“She’s my little girl.” She whispered.
“I know you love her Madison. But, I’m taking a chance by putting you on a plane where they can find you.”
“What do you know? You don’t know shit about me.” she snapped.
“Look, everyone needs to calm down. We need to keep our heads on straight.” Gen said.
“Why are you here?” Madison asked Gen.
“Somehow I got caught up in this bullshit.” Gen barked.
“Somehow, I believe you. I know you wouldn’t voluntarily been in this mess.”
She glared at me.
“Leave her out of this.” I said.
“It’s your fault Alyssa is missing again.”
“Actually, it’s your fault. You pissed her off and she walked out of the café, remember?”
“This is fucking childish. I can’t stand the tit for tat between the two of you.” Jacob shouted.
I wanted to punch his lights out. He was a great actor. As a matter of fact, I was waiting for him to drop the bomb, pull out his gun and start shooting. He was playing it cool and I wanted to know why. I was concerned that he had already killed Alyssa.
“He’s right. Alyssa is our main focus right now.”
Jacob’s cell phone rang. He reached in his suit jacket pocket and answered it.
“Hello?” he glanced over at me. “Really?” he sat up straight. “Where did you see them?”
Madison eyes opened wide. She knew he had information about Alyssa.
“What is it?” She whispered.
Jacob held up his hand to motion for her to be quiet.
“Get back to me as soon as you hear something.” Jacob hung up.
“What’s going on?” Madison asked.
“They spotted a woman and a man with a young woman, blonde hair, blue eyes.”
“Alyssa?” Madison glanced over at me. “Didn’t you shoot Jordania before you left the house?”
“I did.” I replied.
“She’s not dead? Why didn’t you kill her?” Madison roared.
“I’m not a killer, besides, I didn’t know she was still alive.” I shouted.
“You planned all of this, didn’t you?” she said.
“What the fuck is your problem already?” he let go of Gen’s hand. “I can shoot you right here and no one would give a fuck!” he shouted.
“Why don’t you take me out of my misery already?”
Daniel glanced over at her.
“Momma?” Daniel asked.
“Typical drama queen. Is this what I missed while you were growing up?” Jacob sneered.
“No, I’ll tell you what you missed. Me taking care of my brothers and sisters, taking care of my heroin addicted mother, killing a man who threatened to take my kids and rape me, grown men wanting to hurt me every second of the day, being raped by a man I thought was my father, then finding out my real father is a complete fucking asshole.” Her lips trembled as she spoke.
She swallowed hard holding back her tears. She was beyond angry, even I couldn’t respond to that heartache. Gen covered her mouth with her hand and shook her head. Jacob stared at her without saying a word. He sat back, pulled out a cigar from his suit jacket and lit up the cigar. I sighed. This was all so draining.
We arrived at the airport and boarded the plane back to New York City. Madison and Jacob eyed each other throughout the entire ride. She was one tough cookie. Nothing seemed to break her except…Stone. I was concerned about her. She had that look in her eye as if she had given up on herself, on her life but not on Daniel or Alyssa, which made me believe, she would sacrifice herself for their wellbeing.
We landed at John F. Kennedy airport and waited for another driver to appear. The black Cadillac with tinted windows pulled up in front of us.
“Agent Lewis?” the driver said.
“Yeah.” Jacob answered.
“Get in.” I said to Gen.
“Get in.” Jacob directed Madison and Daniel.
The driver drove deep into the city. We finally arrived at a secluded apartment building near hells kitchen. The driver drove into an underground parking lot. The lot was empty and my suspicions grew.
The driver parked near an elevator. We exited the car and headed into the elevator.
“We’ll be staying here until we find Alyssa.”
“How long before you think it will be before we find her?” Daniel asked.
“I’m not sure. But, I’m heading out tonight. I’m meeting with some other agents. Jackson will be joining me?”
“I will?”
“yeah, I need your help. They’ll be fine. I’m leaving Special agent Roth with them.”
I didn’t know who the hell that agent was. I had to get out of this meeting.
“Sorry, they go where I go. No one is left behind.”
Jacob turned to me suspiciously.
“Jackson, that’s not how it works.”
“I’m not leaving Gen with anyone.” I said firmly.
“Look,”
“no, you look. The answer is no. I’m not doing it.”
Jacob’s face reddened with anger.
“I’m confused. I thought you wanted Alyssa back?”
“I do. But not at the expense of my girl and this family.” I turned to Madison.
The elevator reached the tenth floor and we all stepped out. Jacob opened the door to the apartment. It was completely furnished.
“I have to go. Stay with them.” Jacob said.
He turned and walked out of the apartment. I grabbed Gen.
“Listen to me, go into the bedroom, take Daniel and Madison and lock the door.”
“What? Why?”
“I have to get rid of this guy.”
“You’re going to kill him?” she asked frantically.
“Gen, we’re in danger. Jacob is coming back here and he’s going to kill us all.” I grabbed her by the arms gently. “You have to trust me, remember?” I whispered.
Teary-eyed she walked away from me, grabbed Madison and Daniel and headed for the bedroom. Madison turned around and walked towards me.
“Jacks…”
“yeah?”
“Thank you.” She smiled, turned around and walked away.
I watched them as they entered the bedroom and locked the door. I walked over to the living room.
“Agent Roth?” I said.
“Yes,”
“I have a proposition for you.”
“What’s going on?”
“I need for you to leave as soon as possible.”
“Mr. Lewis said I needed to stay here.”
“Agent Roth. You need to leave now.” I pulled out my gun and pointed towards his head.
“What the fuck is going on?”
“if you ask another question, I’ll be forced to blow your head off.”
“Please, don’t do this. I need this damn Job. He’ll fire me. I’m married with kids.” He said nervously.
“All you have to do is leave. I’ll tell him you had a family emergency. Don’t make me kill you and make your wife a widow with fatherless children. Get the fuck out!” I shouted.
Roth got up quickly, grabbed his suit jacket and walked out of the apartment. I ran to the bedroom.
“let’s go!” I yelled.
We grabbed whatever we could and walked towards the elevator.
“What happened?”
“We need to get out of here.”
“We need to get Alyssa, Jacks. Please, I need my daughter. I need my daughter.” Madison grabbed my arm.
“We need to stay alive first. Let’s go.”
We headed into the elevator and down to the garage.
“Where are we going, Jacks?” Gen asked.
“Let’s just get out of this garage.”
We headed out towards the street and hailed a cab. The cab stopped
in front of us.
“Get in.” I said.
Gen, Madison and Daniel sat in the back. I sat in the front.
“Where to?”
I honestly didn’t know where to take them. My apartment was a crime scene and we couldn’t go back to Syracuse without Alyssa. My cell phone vibrated in my pocket. I grabbed my phone and answered it.
“Hello?”
“Agent Turner?”
“Yes.”
“This is detective MacIntyre. I have a young girl here who says she knows you.”
“How did you get my number?”
“I contacted the agency.”
“Jesus Christ, where are you?”
“Listen,”
“No! you listen, you just made your death bed. Get my niece and get the fuck out of there now!”
“Okay this is the address, forty two East Broadway apartment one.”
I hung up.
“Forty two East Broadway, now!”
“What is it?” Madison asked.
“It’s Alyssa, she’s in trouble.”
“Oh my God,”
“Hurry up man! Step on it!” Jackson shouted.
Chapter 27
Alyssa
I sat at the table then felt sick and got up and ran to the bathroom. It must’ve been some after effect of the drugs they gave me or the fact that I keep seeing Mel’s brains on the wall or hearing Jordania’s cries for help.
“Are you okay, Alyssa.” Trudie asked.
“I’ll be okay.”
I got up from the floor and finished puking over the bowl. I turned on the water faucet and rinse my mouth, grabbed the towel and walked out of the bathroom.
“You okay?” Trudie asked.
“Yeah, I’m fine.”
“Can you tell me who these people are that are looking for you?”
“It’s really complicated.” I shook my head. “I’m tired. I think I’ll lay down for a while.” I yawned and covered my mouth.
I missed momma. I just couldn’t believe her so called father is the devil himself.
“Get some rest. I’ll wake you up when Cliff gets here.”
Suddenly, we heard keys at the door. Cliff walks in.
“Let’s go!” he shouted.
My heart raced against my chest. I knew immediately something was wrong.
“What is Cliff?”
“We’re in trouble.”
“Get her out of here!”
“What?” I yelled.
“You have to leave. They’re coming for you!” he shouted.
“Where am I going to go?” I cried.
I stared at the doorway and watched Jacob stroll in as calm and collected as he always was.
“No.” I whispered.
Trudie stood in front of me.
“Hello folks, I’m Special Agent Lewis. I came to collect the girl. Thank you for finding her.”
“You’re not collecting anyone.” Cliff barked.
“We can make this easy? Or we can make this difficult?” Jacob said slowly.
Trudie stared at him with horror in her eyes. Her hands were clammy, but she kept a tight grip on my wrist.
“Agent Lewis, you’re supposed the be the good guy. Why are you doing this?” Cliff asked.
“She’s a runaway. A whore. She’s addicted to drugs. I know she had to have thrown up somewhere in your home today. I’m sure she fabricated a story that I was going to kill her and her whole family.” He took a step to walk towards Cliff and Cliff drew his gun. “Hey, there’s no need for that, we’re both on the same side of the law, detective.”
“I don’t know what’s going on, but I’ll wait until this young lady’s family shows up here. Then we can all talk.”
I died inside. It’s exactly what Jacob wanted. He wanted all of us together, so he could kill us all. I released myself from Trudie’s grip. She glanced over at me. I shook my head slightly. I didn’t want her to move.
“Listen, we all need to relax here. This will all be over when they get here.” Jacob sat on the couch and pulled out a cigar and lit it. Cliff pointed the gun at him. “Do you mind?” Jacob asked Cliff.
“By all means, enjoy your cigar.” He kept a steady hand pointing the gun at Jacob.
I was trembling. They didn’t know what to expect, but I did, and it was terrifying.
****
We waited about twenty minutes when I heard on knock on the door.
“Aren’t you going to get it?” Jacob said smiling.
I shook my head.
“I’ll get it.” Trudie said letting go of my hand.
She walked towards the door and opened it.
Jackson entered with his gun drawn. Cliff pointed his gun at Jackson and that’s when Jacob drew his gun and ran towards me, grabbing me from behind. I screamed.
“Don’t.” Jackson said.
“Do you know this little bitch really made me earn my money,” he chuckled.
He twisted my arm and placed it behind my back and I let out a yelp.
“Please, don’t hurt her.” I heard momma say.
She walked in from the hallway. Daniel followed.
“Jacob, this has gone too far. What the fuck is going on?” Jackson demanded.
“I’m not telling the story again. Maybe Alyssa can tell you.” I shook my head. “Tell him. Start with Stone’s father.”
“Stone’s father, Detective McGuiness was on Andrew’s payroll.” I cried. “ Andrew wanted daddy out of the way. He made McGuiness ask Mel for help to get Andrew what he wanted. Mel asked Jacob to forge you and daddy’s birth certificates to make it look like you and daddy were related, so Andrew could take us away from you. He knew if the court knew you and daddy were related, you wouldn’t be able to be together and they would’ve taken us away. Jacob did it, momma. He did it to protect his job and…Mel helped him.” I cried. “Let me go!” I roared.
He twisted my arm tighter and I heard it crack. The pain was excruciating. I keeled over and nearly passed out.
“You bastard!” Momma yelled. “What have I ever done to you for you to ruin my life like this?”
“You were born from that junkie whore mother of yours.” I heard him say.
“Let the girl go Jacob.” Jackson yelled.
“Never. You have a choice Madison. Alyssa or You?”
“No!” I shrieked.
“That’s not going to happen Jacob.” Jackson said.
“How are you going to stop me. I’ll shoot Alyssa in the head right now!” He yelled.
His face was red with anger.
“No!” Momma yelled. “No! please. I’ll do it.” She bellowed.
“You’ll have to kill us all and there’s no way you can do that…alone.”
A man walked in holding a knife to Gen’s throat. He had her wrapped in his arms with the knife cutting slightly at her throat. Blood trickled down her neck. The man slammed the door shut with his foot.
“Are we done playing games, Agent Turner?” He asked.
“Mike?” Jackson answered.
“Did you really think I could pull all this shit off myself?” Jacob shook his head. “Let go of Gen and bring me Madison.”
He pushed Gen towards Jackson. Jackson grabbed her while pointing his gun at Jacob. Mike grabbed Madison.
“Please, please don’t kill her. You already ruined her life. Why does she have to die?”
“I can’t have an illegitimate daughter ruining my reputation. You know everything. You all do.”
“Momma!” I cried.
“Shut up!” Jacob said through gritted teeth.
“Jacob, please. I have no problem dying for my children.” Momma said smiling. “They’re all I’ve known since I was eleven years old. You’re not my father. I could never have the blood of a monster in my veins. So, kill me. You’ll be doing me a favor.” She said calmly.
“Momma, what are you saying?” Daniel Shouted. “Let my sister go you piece of shit!” he cried.
“Jesus, don’t you have
your own father to find young man? Your mother was a whore. How the fuck did I stick my dick in that mess.”
“You probably raped her you bastard!” Daniel shouted.
“No, your grandma paid me.” He laughed.
“Look, I don’t have all day to be here. You said you needed to get rid of this family. Start killing, Jacob!” Mike shouted.
“Fine!” Jacob pointed the gun at Mike and shot him in the chest.
Momma ducked and Trudie screamed at the top of her lungs.
“You take your wife and get out of here.” He said to Cliff.
Cliff turned around and stared at Trudie.
“She’s my sister.” Cliff said.
“Well, do you want her to die?”
“No.”
“Then get the fuck out of here.” Jacob barked.
“I can’t let you kill this family.” Cliff said.
“Don’t be a hero, Cliffy, I don’t want to kill your sister.”
Momma walked towards Jacob. Jackson grabbed her.
“You’re not doing this Madison.” Jackson whispered.
Jacob held me tight. His nails were digging into the skin of my forearm. I glanced over at Trudie. I noticed she was holding something in her hand that looked like a cell phone. She shook her head slightly and turned away from me.
“Jackson, I have nothing to live for.” Momma whispered.
“You have everything to live for, Madison. Daniel and Alyssa wouldn’t even exist without you.”
“What are you doing Jackson? Kill her.” Jacob demanded.
Jackson glanced over at Jacob. He walked towards him slowly.
“It was a good thing you killed Mike.” Jackson said.
“Don’t come any closer or I’ll kill her.” Jacob whispered.
I could feel his hot breath blowing in my ear. He grabbed me by the throat. Jackson lifted his gun and pointed it towards Jacob’s head.
“Do you remember when we were in the academy?” Jackson asked Jacob.
“You’re making a big fucking mistake Jackson.” He demanded.
“Do you remember?” He yelled.
I jumped when he yelled. Jackson stood staring at Jacob.
“I’ll blow her fucking head off, I swear to God!” Jacob shouted.
“I don’t want to kill you, Jacob. You’re my best friend.”
“Friendship has nothing to do with this. This bitch needs to die. You’re supposed to be with me. She’s not worth it. She’s nobody.”
