They Got Her Pregnant!

“Do you know what can happen if the police catch you with this stuff? Do you know what could happen to us? Or do you not care?” her mother asked.

  “Yes I…”, she began.

“Is it Pearl’s?” her dad asked walking in.

“I’m not answering any of your questions.”

“You either answer our questions or you leave young lady”, her mother said matter-of-factly.

“Well then I guess that it is decided then”, Allison said whilst she hustled a few personal effects into a knapsack.

“Don’t come back until you are ready to abide by the rules”, her dad said.

“Maybe I won’t come back at all I only hope that you will now be happy I didn’t ask to be born nor did I intend on wrecking your perfect lives. Getting rid of me was pretty easy you know the universe would have forgiven you just as it will forgive you for what you are doing now.”

Her mother was hurt she tried to explain that she was blessing but their actions time and time again have proven others.

  Allison packed without a word.

Just then her twin sister Pearl walked in. She had been eavesdropping.

“Ma I can’t believe you would do that to Allie, she’s the good one, she always does well in school but she’s a teenager now, she’s allowed to make mistakes”, Pearl said, “You know what I’m leaving too.”

Pearl goes into her room and begins throwing some of her things into a bag identical to the one Allison is packing. She is angry at their parents. This treatment was so unfair. She could swear on her life that Allison would never smoke weed. Her parents could never see the light. First it was the boy who they thought was Allison’s boyfriend, then they said she was disrespectful, then it was their unreasonable curfew –which Allison for the most part abided by – and now this. This was by far the most serious but if her parents weren’t so heavy-handed the outcome would’ve been different.

“Let the rebels go, they are too much to handle”, she overheard her father say to her mother.

She may be a rebel but Allison was only thought of as a rebel. Allison was nowhere near as rebellious as she.

“I just want you to know that I don’t consider myself welcome as long as Allison isn’t welcome here. You really should give her a chance. You’re making a big mistake”, Pearl said gravely to her parents.

“Hey sis wait up”, Pearl hollered.

Pearl ran out after her sister. Let her parents be alone. They clearly wanted peace and quiet and it was only a matter of time before they threw her out too. She was a rebel unlike her sweet sister.

“Pearl, go home”, Allison said flatly.

“No Allie we’re in this together; if you’re out I’m out. I gotta watch your back. If I leave who will look out for you. I know it’s not how they make it and I’m sorry they’re so hard on you”, Pearl said.

Pearl and Allison walk and talk for about thirty minutes. They come to The Haunt and stumble inside. Once there, they realize that this bar is a bit more than they can chew. Allison, though always the voice of reason, feels particularly reckless tonight – after all, it isn’t every day you get thrown out of your house – so she decides to stay. The girls order scotches and sit at the bar area drinking.

The drink steadies their nerves but does nothing to calm their fears. They glance at the bartender who is studying them. He looks Hispanic and is richly dressed. He has gold studs in his ears, gold rings on all his fingers and even gold designs on his teeth. Seeing how scantily clad they are he offers them another drink.

They decline until he says, “Drinks on me man. They’re on the house.”

They drink another round and start to discuss their next move. The girls don't know where to go or what to do because they have no job and they have no money and they're terrified of what they're going to have to do to make it.

“What are we gonna do?” Allison asks.

“I don’t know. I have my bank card and I have some cash. We can crash at a motel for a few days but we will need a job and an apartment”, Pearl responds.

“I don’t think I want the kinds of jobs that are available in this side of town”, Allison says cringing.

“Well girl you gonna have to do something when the money runs out”, Pearl replied.

“We’re desperate but I hope we never get THAT desperate”, Allison said getting up to pace.

Carlos listens in nonplussed. He didn’t know what to make of the conversation. He was somewhere between scepticism and glee. As their exchange continued though, he saw – and took – his opportunity. Over their third round of drinks, he summoned his most convincing smile and made his proposal.

“Seems like we’re all in a situation tonight”, he began.

Pearl and Allison continued talking, taking no notice of him.

He clears his throat and continues, “Ladies I have an offer for you that’s so irresistible, you can’t resist”; he chuckles, considering himself clever.

They stop talking and turn to him.

“I have an errand I need you two to help me run. At the end of it I’m sure you’ll have more rent than you need. I need to retrieve something of value from a house and I think you two are just the people to help me – a large quantity of silver and very valuable”, Carlos said.

“Here let me make the first instalment”, he continued handing each girl a hundred dollar bill.

“That is what you will use to grab a snack and hail a cab to Sherwood Lane where you will get further instructions. I’ll meet you there in the next hour and a half”, Carlos finished.

Within a few minutes he called the bartender back to his post and disappeared into the night leaving the girls alone with their thoughts.

“What do you think Allie?” Pearl asked.

“I don’t know what to think Pearl”, Allison said.

“Better come up with something fast clock is ticking”, Pearl replied pointing to her watch

The sisters are desperate, and they decide that they will go with him.

They grab a few snacks at a store before hailing a cab to their meeting point. The girls remain silent during the forty minute cab ride. They get to the spot ten minutes early and stand their waiting.

“Where is he and what’s taking him so long?” asked Allison finally breaking the silence that pervaded for the twenty five minutes which they had been standing there.

The liquor had done little in dulling her sense of timing.

“I don’t know, but wherever the hell he is he better hurry up before we get picked up for solicitation”, Pearl replied.

“What if he’s an undercover cop?” Allison asks terrified.

“Clearly someone’s been watching too much tv. Cops aren’t bartenders in that part of town. Besides he’s too richly dressed. The police department could never outfit him like that on their budget and anyone with that kind of dough wouldn’t be a cop”, she jeered.

Probably he wasn’t an undercover cop but sure enough, the con artist arrives in a car that blends in with the crowd. They drive out of the city to a wooded area and park in an indiscriminate place under a tree. They get out of the car and he begins to lay out a plan. Before he can articulate it, however, Allison interrupts.

“What are we doing out here?” asks Allison.

  “Quiet!” Carlos orders.

“Listen up. The owner of the building is Leo Kirk. He is famous but somewhat a hermit. There’s a whole lot of silver in his basement. He found it on this land. He stays out here ‘cause he thinks he’s better than everybody. It should be pretty easy to get in and out real quick. You two stay in the car. I'll go scope out the place”, Carlos said.

“Are you suggesting that we break into this man’s house?” Allison asked mortified.

“Well if you have any other way of getting the silver let me know, so I c
an spare all the effort I am about to put into this venture”, Carlos replied cheekily.

"Why are we robbing him again?" asked Pearl.

"One we need the money and two he doesn't. Besides he won't notice how much we take. I hear there's more to be found on this land. Consider it his personal investment into your future", he said pointing a finger at them both.

His last words sobered them up. Their future did look pretty bleak and this wouldn’t be the worst thing they would have to do in the coming weeks if their luck didn’t change. Without another word he got out of the car and disappeared into the woods.

Once more alone with their thoughts, Pearl asks Allison, "Are you sure you want to do this?"

"What choice do we have? We're both out of a place to live. We don't have a job. We need the money. He did say the man won't notice. I hope he doesn't", Allison said looking worried.

"You know, you don't have to come in with us. You can just stay on the watch and call us if you see or hear anything", Pearl said.

"No Pearl, I want to be there, besides you two need help in carrying the silver. One person can't carry too much. It will rattle and give us all away", Allison said matter of factly.

What she didn’t say was that she was scared to sit in the getaway car all by herself and that she had begun to feel sorry for the man of the house. She wished they wouldn’t be preying on him and she honestly hoped there’d be more silver to find on the land, especially since where he lived was not the best of places. And what did that say about what he would do if he caught them on his property much more in his house? She had a bad feeling about this.

Meanwhile Pearl was having musings of her own. If the silver was as valuable as Carlos made it out to be, why did he need two people to help him? Couldn’t he just steal a handful? After all he didn’t look like he was feeling for money. She wondered if he was setting them up to take the fall for him. She had seen sheer desperation in his eyes at one point but it could all be an act. Whatever this was she was determined to protect her sister but the damn girl was so pig-headed she couldn’t take a hint and stay in the car.

Carlos returns and gives them the all clear. He says the house is empty and this is their chance. He also says he doesn’t really need them because he can fit through the trapdoor but a deal is a deal – right? They move quickly and quietly through the underbrush until they catch sight of a house in a clearing.

It was beautiful, Allison thought as she looked at it. It was everything she would want in a house, except for the location of course, but still. Even Pearl looked a little awed. This made her conscience prick her all the more but there was no turning back now. She pressed on with the others.

When they get to it, they crawl under the house and into a trap door from underneath. They open up the door to a room full of silver and treasure. Immediately the con artists' eyes glow with envy and lust, as he starts bagging all the silver. The girls spring into action and start bagging silver too. They are there for about ten minutes and Allison is beginning to get nervous.

“Let’s get out of here”, she says in a high whisper.

Pearl secures her final bag of silver and turns to Carlos who is still packing more pieces of silver into his bag.

  “Just a minute”, he says.

“We don’t have that”, she whispers, her eyes widening and her tone becoming more urgent.

“Look”, she said pointing at a motion detector that Carlos just moved past.

They are about walking out when suddenly there are red, blue and yellow lights out the window, and all three people realize they have tripped an alarm of some kind. There are sirens and police officers surround the house.

“I knew we should’ve left before”, Allison said her voice shaky.

A look of worry crosses Carlos’ face and Pearl beckons to Carlos, “We can pretend it was only us, while Allie here can hide and when they leave take the silver and stash it in the car. That way we will have the silver when we get bailed out and my sister won’t have her perfect, crime-free record spoiled”, she enunciated looking at Allison.

“Whatever happens they will not take Allison”, Pearl says slipping two coins into her bra.

Carlos laughs, pleased with the arrangement. He had planned to leave them in it if they were ever caught, providing that they were silver less, but this was for the greater good. He would take the fall only because the silver would still be secure. Allison hides behind a chest of drawers in the basement. The police draw their weapons and tell them to come out with their hands up. Carlos and Pearl walk out. “On your knees”, the officer bellows. Carlos and Pearl get down. An officer lowers his gun and slaps a cuff on both of them. He advises them of their rights before hustling them off into the car. The other officers enter the basement to ensure it is clear.

They all hear a bike ride up and they turn to see the man himself, Leo Krink.

“What seems to be the matter here officers?” he asks.

“The alarm tripped and we came here to see those two in your house, Mr Krink”, a rookie explained.

Pearl looked out the window and glimpsed the figure on the bike. Her heart sank and she began to fear for her sister’s safety, wondering if she wouldn’t be safer in custody than alone in that house with that hunk of a man.

After watching through her peephole as Pearl and Carlos get cuffed and led off Allison steps out hesitantly. At one point she had thought they were going to see her. They had walked right by her hiding place and even stopped for a while there. She just hoped the dank environment wouldn’t make her sneeze.

She heard the police cars drive away. She steps out of her hiding spot. It is a refreshing change from her cramped position. She hadn’t heard anyone else apart from the cops so she figures she is alone. She climbs the inside stairs up to the kitchen and hears a growling outside the window in the backyard and looks out into the backyard in the full moon to see a man standing on a pier overlooking a lake.

She panics as the man comes in the house cracking down the door and breathing heavily. She rushes as quietly as she can, heart pounding, to the safety and familiarity of her hiding place.

Leo comes in and calls out into the emptiness of his house, “I know where you are. Save us both the trouble of me coming to get you.”

She closes her eyes tightly and she hears him coming down the stairs slowly. She looks around for anything with which to defend herself and comes up empty. She thinks about chancing escape through the woods but the footsteps are getting closer. He is almost at the bottom of the stairs. If she doesn’t make a run for it now then she will be too late. She breathes heavily and decides to stay. Whatever she gets she deserves. He doesn’t sound like he will kill her. Or will he?

She decides she has no other choice so she leaves her hiding spot and comes out to tell the man what had happened.

“Please don’t call the cops, I’ll leave right now, I’m very sorry”, she pleads.

“I can’t let you go into the woods like that at night, what kind of man would that make me”, he asks in a low dangerous tone.

The reality of what has just taken place hits her and she faints. He lifted her carrying her up the stairs two at a time. He lays her on the couch and watches television. In about ten minutes, she comes to, frightened but then she remembers where she is. She rushes over to him promising to do anything to make it up to him. He throws back his head and laughs.

  “Everything will be ok Allison.”

She looks in his face. He is devilishly handsome. He towers above her. She estimates him at a good foot taller than her and he has the most amazing mouth. It was full and seemed to say kiss me. She licks her lips. Her beautiful face reminds him of his high school girlfriend who died in a car crash and he told her as much. She tells him about her recent problems at home and having nowhere to live and no job.

They converse lengthily until Allison’s stomach cried out “are you hungry?” he asked looking at her pity in his yes “please” Allison pleaded “just kick me o
ut of your house my intentions were impure coming here tonight though I had good reason. Just a better life for me and my twin sister” he smiled “cook us something to eat please” he requested “then I will kick you out.” Allison was shocked “why are you so nice?” she asked he shrugged and pointed to the kitchen “cook, food, now” he said grinning. Allison made her way to the kitchen he didn’t follow she looked at a window over the sink but shook the idea from her head and started looking around for pots and pans and ingredients. She found what she needed to make exactly what she felt for she even had a chocolate cake going, forty-five minutes had passed when Leo finally entered the kitchen. “Something smells good” he said appreciatively “you could cook?” Allison shrugged “yea I think I am good at it” she responded “only problem is if I cook while I am stressed I tend to get carried away and cook so much that there is enough food to feed an army” he laughed heartily “that’s good” he said “I eat enough for an army” she dished him heaping loads of everything and turned to look at the cake. To her surprise he wasn’t eating “what’s the matter?” she asked “I am a gentleman” he answered “I’ll wait for you” she smiled “that’s kind of you” she removed the cake and placed it on a rack to cool then sat down to eat. “I found some expensive chocolate” she told him “I hope you don’t mind me using it” “I don’t you can do whatever you want including stay” she stood to her feet and used the melted chocolate to add icing to the cake. Allison didn’t say anything she was still worried and afraid, she wanted to go see about pearl.

After dinner they sat on the terrace looking at the stars he had a huge telescope that he was looking through and invited over to take a look she looked and as she was turning to look at him to comment their eyes met and that was it, he is on her kissing her, fondling her, making her feel hot all over. He hikes up her skirt, braces her against the wall and pulls at her mesh underwear with such anxiety it fell apart in his hand.

As he tried to impale her he met resistance. He tried again a bit more forcefully and she cried out.
