Caleb snorted. “I’d love to see the King’s reaction to that, but yeah, probably a bad idea.” He shrugged. “Why do you have to figure any of this out now?”

“I have to figure out something.” Sarah looked back at him. “I can’t just go on day to day without a plan.”

“You can’t know what the future will bring. Sometimes you just have to play it by ear and not worry so much about the consequences.”

“Says the man who is practically impossible to kill.”

He laughed. “We’re not talking life and death here. The world won’t end if you make the wrong job choice.”

Her cheeks reddened slightly, and her pupils dilated. “And is that what you’ve done all your life? Just played it by ear and not worried that much about the consequences?” Her voice was lower, breathier.

He moved in a little toward her, taking in her heady scent. “Oh, I worry about the consequences, but only the important ones.”

  “And that’s worked for you?”

“Yeah. It’s gotten me pretty far,” Caleb said softly before planting his mouth on hers.

Sarah half-closed her eyes as he parted her lips with his tongue.

  Chapter Twelve

Sarah had wanted this for a while. Really, if she were being honest, she’d been lusting after Caleb from the moment she’d first laid eyes on him. It was only the True Sons’ arrival that had pushed them out of their flirting.

Now, their tongues twined and wrestled with each other, her fantasy becoming reality. She’d hoped he’d make a move, but she understood why he didn’t. Weird and unusual didn’t even begin to describe the situation, at least for her.

Caleb deepened the kiss, and Sarah moaned into his mouth, running her hands through his brown hair, digging into his scalp. His strong hands skimmed down her sides and loosened the flimsy knot on her robe.

The robe fell open revealing her body. He reached down and pulled her tightly against his hard body, still not breaking the kiss.

Her breasts pressed against his firm chest, though she ached to feel his skin against hers. Warmth pulsed from her center, and she let out another quiet moan.

Caleb pulled away from her mouth. The sudden void made Sarah ache for more.

Her nipples hardened at the sound of a low rumble from Caleb. The warmth in her center grew.

The man’s gaze roamed her body, and he let out another low growl. “I’ve wanted this for a while.” He reached up and ripped the robe off her body and tossed it to the ground.

Sarah’s face heated, and she resisted the urge to cover her body. Something about being naked in the middle of his living room made her heart pound faster.

“S-so I have,” she managed to get out.

Caleb offered her a lop-sided grin. “Then you just should have said so.” He scooped her into his arms in one smooth motion.

Sarah let out a yelp, then laughed a second later as the alpha carried her toward his bedroom.

He kicked open the door and carefully maneuvered her inside. Once in, he set her on the edge of the bed and tugged at his shirt.

His chiseled chest was a marvel to behold. Sculpted like a statue. Sarah licked her lips. His pants came off next. Whatever magic or power let him hide them when shifting apparently didn’t apply in the bedroom.

The huge tent in his boxers showed he liked what they’d been doing as much as she had.

The sound of ripping fabric filled the room as Caleb tore his underwear.

“Eager,” Sarah said, trying her best at husky.

“Underwear’s cheap,” Caleb said with a grin. He tossed the ruined scrap to the ground.

She gasped at the sight. She was no shrinking violet virgin, but she’d never been with a man anywhere near as large as Caleb. His thick cock stood erect, and she began to wonder if she’d even be able to fit him inside her.

Sarah took a deep breath and slowly let it out. She certainly would enjoy finding out.

Caleb stalked toward the bed, a predatory glean in his eye. “You’re so fucking hot.”

“You’re just saying that because I’m Blooded.”

He snorted and pushed her down. Straddling her, he said, “You think I wouldn’t fuck you if you weren’t Blooded? For a college girl, you say stupid things. You’re damn hot.”

His dark eyes stared down at her, as if they could see into her soul. She rubbed her thighs together, the burning hunger in those eyes kindling the fire in her center. No man had ever looked at her like that.

A rough hand grabbed her breast, and she let out a strangled moan as he kneaded it.

“You on the pill?” he asked.

Sarah nodded quickly, her breathing quickening under the pressure of his hand on her breast.

She closed her eyes and lay her head back, enjoying his fingers as they teased and pinched her nipple. A moment later, his hot breath ghosted across her other nipple.

Her eyes flicked open in time to watch him seal his mouth over her breast. His tongue lapped at her nipple, while his other hand continued to work. She let out a loud moan. The warmth in her center began to transform into delicious pressure.

Sarah lost track of time as Caleb’s masterful hand and tongue continued exploring her body. Suddenly she was shoved her back into the present as he moved away.

Looking down her body, she saw Caleb grin and lower his mouth to her stomach. He trailed kisses down her stomach. Closer, ever so closer.

She nibbled her lip in anticipation. The lower his mouth moved, the more excited she felt. The warmth of his breath added to her heated and wet center.

Caleb hovered over her pussy for a few seconds before flicking his tongue over her clit.

A pulse of pleasure shot through Sarah, and she let out a loud moan, arching her back up.

Her lover’s tongue continued his work, lapping, teasing, and flicking her clit. A second later, he pushed into her tight channel with his finger. Sarah took a shuddered breath.

Caleb began to pump into her, not giving the pressure and warmth in her center time to decrease.

Her breathing turned ragged, and then he added a second finger, continuing to invade her while his tongue caressed her clit. Sense left her mind as pleasure seeped into every part of her.

More. She wanted more, but she couldn’t manage to get out anything other than a moan.

Like he was reading her mind, he sped up, his fingers working magic in a way like no other man had done for her before.

The glorious pleasure again robbed her of any sense of time until her climax exploded through her.

“Caleb,” she moaned loudly. Her walls tightened around his fingers, and he waited for a minute, as she rocked against his hand, riding out the waves of her orgasm.

Caleb yanked his fingers out and licked them. “My turn now.”

“Oh…” Sarah moaned, the residual pulses from her orgasm still bouncing through her.

Kneeling in front of her, Caleb lifted one of her legs and put it over his shoulder. He positioned another of hers around his thigh before lining his throbbing cock up with her soaked pussy.

A growl escaped his lips, and he pushed in with his head.

Sarah’s breath caught as the huge cock entered her. Stretched her to her limits. Even with the fingerfucking preparation and her orgasm, her insides still strained to accommodate him. Still, she wanted it. Enjoyed it. The pain giving way to the pleasure of fullness.

Caleb seated himself fully in her, pulled back once, and shoved in.

She cried out. Deep, so deep. Again he shoved in and pulled out. Then again. Faster each time. Even faster.

The pleasure already threatened to explode into another orgasm. No man had ever fucked her so deeply with this much strength. It was animalistic and only excited her more.

Her ragged breathing joined with his grunts. The sound of their slapping flesh filled the air.

Caleb continued slamming into her, and she kept enough presence of mind to reach up and fondle her breasts while he did his part
.

  “I… soon…” Sarah moaned.

“Just hold on,” Caleb said through gritted teeth, his cock throbbing inside of her with each thrust. “I want to come with you.”

She managed a weak nod, though the pressure threatened to spill out at any second. Over and over, he pounded into her.

Somehow he managed to speed up even more, the deep penetration and pressure on her clit pushing out her limits.

“I… can’t,” Sarah said. Another orgasm, much more intense than the first blasted through her. She didn’t moan this time. She screamed, and her insides tightened around the invading cock inside her.

Grunting, relentless, Caleb continued shoving into her. He cried out his release, shooting his hot seed deep into her.

Sarah’s orgasm still cascaded through her, her insides continuing to milk Caleb’s seed.

He lingered for a moment, his breath heavy, sweat on his brow. She didn’t say anything, just tried to catch her breath.

Caleb pulled out, and she shivered at the loss of him inside her. He crawled up beside her and wrapped his huge arms around her.

“I don’t have the words,” Sarah said, her body still warm from her orgasms.

“Your screams were good enough,” Caleb muttered. He nuzzled her neck. “Give me a couple minutes, and we can go again.”

“Oh my God,” Sarah whispered, then grinned.

  * * *

When Sarah awoke the next morning, Caleb was gone. She sighed and pulled his pillow to her face to inhale deeply. His earthy sandalwood scent still infused the pillow. Her nipples tightened.

Lord help her, even his smell made her wet.

She didn’t know what they had, but she wanted more of it.

  “Caleb?” she called out.

He didn’t answer. That didn’t surprise her. Even though they normally slept in separate rooms, Caleb getting up and heading down to Devil’s Den before her was typical.

It wasn’t like he cared about her rushing down there. They were a bar. They didn’t exactly serve the breakfast crew.

Sarah rolled out of bed and hurried into the guest bedroom, looking for her phone. She picked it up and started composing a long email to her advisor explaining that she would be taking some time off.

She needed a break. She couldn’t leave this, not after what she’d seen and experienced. Part of the reason she’d gone back to graduate school is that she wanted to understand how the world really worked. Now, she was learning there was a whole another layer.

Screw it. If she had to choose science over being with a man like Caleb, it was an easy call.

Sarah let out a little laugh. She was a little sore, but she didn’t give a damn. She couldn’t wait to be with Caleb again.

  Chapter Thirteen

A week later, Caleb found himself thinking about intimidating people. A thick crowd confronted Sarah and him as they tried to find a good spot to watch the upcoming city fireworks show.

The exteriors of the shops of the outdoor mall, although closed, provided more than enough light to push away the darkness at ground level. The thousands of bright smart phones did the rest.

Three teens blocked their path. Caleb glared at them, and they scattered to either side.

“Come on, don’t have to be that way,” Sarah said, lightly punching his arm.

“Hey, it gets the job done.”

  She rolled her eyes.

Really, the good thing about being a huge man was that people tended to stay the hell out of your way. Normally, he didn’t mind crowds, but this time he had to worry about Sarah’s comfort, even if she had complaints about his methods.

“I didn’t get dragged out here just so we can get stuck in some crappy place where you can’t see a thing,” Caleb grumbled.

“Oh, the gesture is sweet enough.” Sarah let out a light laugh. “You know, I don’t think I’ve actually been out to watch fireworks on the Fourth in years.” She furrowed her brow and looked down. “Honestly, I don’t think I’ve gone since my undergrad days.”

  “Why?”

“I don’t know. I just always ended up busy, or at a party or something rather than watching fireworks. Maybe after seeing them for so many years, I guess I’m just jaded.”

Caleb snorted. “Really? I love this crap.” He shot a glare at another man trying to crowd in before saying, “I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of fireworks.”

Sarah smirked. “What? You don’t really strike me as the patriotic type.”

“What’s patriotism have to do with it?”

“Hello. Fourth of July? Independence Day? The rockets red glare and all that?”

Caleb scoffed. “Nah. Nothing to do with that. I just love seeing things blow up.” He grinned and shrugged.

“All men are just big kids in the end.” Sarah laughed. She leaned in, a worried expression on her face.

He resisted a frown, wondering the reason for the sudden change.

She spoke quieter, but he could still hear her despite the murmur of the crowd. “I want to tell you something. I’ve been meaning to tell you for a while.”

  “What?”

“I called my advisor the other day. I’m taking some time off from my grad program.”

“Huh, really? So, what is that like quitting?”

She rubbed the back of her neck. “Not quite, but one step down from it. I’m going to have to figure out different funding when I go back, but, you know, one day at a time and all that, like you said.”

“Glad to see you coming around, just don’t do it because you think you’re going to be forced to stay in my place forever. Do it because you want to.”

Sarah nodded slowly. “I know that the danger will probably be over sooner than later, but I just… don’t think I can go back to worrying about that kind of thing, and I don’t know what we have together, but it feels good.” She sighed. “I do like you a lot, though.”

“For a woman whose telling me she’s into me, you seem awfully depressed.” Caleb swept a strand of hair out of her face and tucked it behind her ear gently.

“I just don’t know if what I feel is real, or if I’m just into the idea of what you are. I just want to be honest with you about everything, so we both have reasonable expectations.”

He shrugged. “Fair enough. Like I’ve told you before, don’t worry so much about the future. We…”

  “What is it?”

Caleb held up a hand and inhaled deeply. An earthy scent hit his nose. Damn it. He’d let his guard down. He let out a low growl.

  Sarah blinked. “What’s wrong?”

“Someone’s here.” Caleb scanned the crowd, but he couldn’t spot any obvious threat in the huge group of people. “Someone… like me.”

  He shook his head.

“That doesn’t have to be a big deal, right? Maybe it’s just someone from Devil’s Den. I’m betting a lot of them like to see things blow up, too.”

“No.” Caleb leaned over to whisper into her ear. “As alpha, I can feel when my packmates are close. I smell another werewolf here, but none of my pack is close. It might be a different pack, but I’m guessing it’s a True Son.” He grabbed her hand. “We need to get somewhere less crowded.”

Sarah swallowed once and nodded. Caleb tugged her through the crowd, pushing and glaring his way through, though most areas parted before him with little trouble. Even if he weren’t a werewolf, leaving a crowd was usually easier than trying to enter it.

Caleb inhaled deeply again. Too many damn scents overlapping. He knew the other wolf was close, but he couldn’t pinpoint its direction. He just hoped they wouldn’t do something stupid.

The crowd began to thin, and he halted. Sarah looked up at him, confusion on her face. He wanted to tell her everything would be all right, but he didn’t have a good handle on the threat.

Was moving to the sparser part of the crowd the right move? He doubted even an idiotic member of the True Sons would be stupid enough to go after him in a crowd of thousands of pe
ople.

That kind of exposure wouldn’t just bring the dragons down on them, but probably every other shifter in the area. No matter how badass Jake thought he was, he couldn’t take on every shifter in Maricopa County.

“We’re staying here,” Caleb said, his voice full of authority.

Sarah glanced around, probably trying to spot the enemy herself. She leaned in to speak quietly. “But you said someone was coming. Shouldn’t we get out of here? What if they try something?”

“We’re safe where there’s people. Less chance of them trying something then. And there still is few enough people here that we can run if we need to.”

She winced. “I don’t like the idea of using people as shields. We’re gambling with other people’s lives.”

“It’s not a gamble when you know you can win.” He shook his head. “Trust me. There’s far less chance of trouble this way.” Caleb let out a low growl. “I’d love to take this guy on and teach him a lesson just like I taught his buddies a lesson, but we’re out here, exposed.”

In the distance, something caught Caleb’s eye. Not movement, but more the lack of it. He finally spotted a man staring at them, a bald, bearded man wearing a leather jacket covered with patches. He couldn’t make them out so far away, but he didn’t doubt for a second that it was a member of the True Sons.

“Should we call someone?” Sarah asked quietly, glancing the same way as Caleb. She shuddered. “Not the police, I get that, but someone from Devil’s Den?”

Caleb locked eyes with the True Son in the distance. Confidence filled him, and he grinned at the other man, who only frowned back.

“No,” he said. “Screw them, and screw that guy.”

“Huh, but you… okay, I’m confused.”

“We should stay and enjoy the fireworks.” Caleb snickered. “We’re not going to let them win. This is just them trying to play games, trying to let us know they haven’t forgotten. From the scent, I’m guessing there’s only one of them, and they aren’t going to try shit with just one of them, especially with so many people around. You saw what I did to two of the bastards. Just imagine what I could do to one.”
