Caleb Page 11

The True Sons all shifted back to human and filed out, sparing a glance for their dead alpha lying on the ground. More than a few offered Caleb a reserved nod, newfound respect in their eyes.

When the last biker had exited, the rest of Caleb’s pack shifted.

“Are you sure they’ll leave town?” Malcolm said.

“They have no alpha now. Even if that guy becomes the new alpha, their whole pack dynamic is gonna be off for a while.” Caleb shook his head. “No, if they were going to stand and fight, they would have done it already.”

  “And you’re satisfied?” Malcolm said.

Caleb snorted. “Why wouldn’t I be?”

“I don’t know. I didn’t know if you wanted to kill some of the guys who had gone after Sarah.”

“I already had the chance.” Caleb shook his head. “Jake is dead. This shit is done. We’ve spilled enough blood for now. Now let’s get the hell out of here.”

  Chapter Twenty

In the week that passed following the pack’s showdown with the True Sons, Sarah had a lot of time to think about her future. What had felt like it might be hard to decide seemed pretty easy once the threat of biker werewolves was removed from the mix. Funny, how the threat of being kidnapped or killed could mess with a person’s head.

Sarah hummed to herself in the shower as she squirted some shampoo into her hand.

“I’d join you,” Caleb said from the other side of the curtain, “but that damn shower isn’t big enough for two people.”

“When you bought this place, you weren’t thinking about shower sex? I have to admit I’m a bit disappointed.”

She could see his outline shrug through the curtain.

“Well, what about the shower at your place?”

Sarah sighed. “It’s even smaller than this one.”

“Damn, no one is thinking of shower sex for big guys when they are designing these places? What a bunch of bastards.”

Sarah giggled. “We’ll have to go rent a nice hotel room so we can have some awesome shower sex, then. All nine heads and steam, and my ass in the air.”

  Caleb growled. “Don’t tempt me.”

“I’m not joking. I’ve never had shower sex, so I’m glad I could save it for you.”

“I guess I know what we’re doing tomorrow,” he mumbled.

Sarah let out a soft laugh.

Caleb didn’t say anything for a long while. After Sarah finished lathering, she glanced over to make sure his shadow was still there.

“Something wrong?” she said. “It’s not like you to be so quiet. Caleb Drake thinking too much makes me nervous.”

“Just wanted to make sure everything’s okay with you,” he said, uncharacteristic worry in his voice.

“I’m fine. What do you mean?”

“About your plans. I wanted to make sure everything with your plans is okay.”

Sarah winced, thinking of the dragon asking her the same thing.

“I should have told you already,” she began, “but I made it very clear to the university that I have zero intention of coming back. My advisor suddenly seemed to care about me when I talked about leaving, but I think this is for the best. I know I feel this is the best for me.”

“And you’re fine with that? Fine with not being some sort of fancy scientist?”

Sarah closed her eyes and began rinsing out the shampoo. “I’m wolf Blooded. I should be finding a way to help my pack, not worrying about getting papers published in journals. The thing is I’m happy with you, happy in a way that I’ve never been, and I can’t imagine not being close to you, every day, even if things get a scary and dragons occasionally kick down the door.”

Caleb grunted. “Did you know that lizard bitch complained about you shooting up his suit?”

She sucked in a breath. “I hope you’re not in too much in trouble over that.”

“Nah. Next time shoot him in the balls.”

“I tried shooting him. The bullets bounced off. You didn’t tell me dragons are bulletproof.”

“The trick is that bullets still sting. Put twelve rounds in the crotch, and it’s still gonna hurt.”

Sarah chuckled. “I still have so much to learn. Maybe I should start up some sort of shifter-only journal.”

“No. What you need to do is hurry up and finish up that shower so I can bend over that bed and make you moan. The woman I love deserves a little morning fun, even if we can’t have decent shower sex.”

Her breath caught as she focused on a single word he’d said. “What did you say?”

Caleb pulled open the shower curtain and grinned. “You heard what I said. I love you, Sarah. Let me show how much.”

She beamed a warm smile at him. “I love you, too, Caleb.”

She yelped as Caleb scooped her up into her arms without even turning the water off.

“Then let’s go prove our love.”

  Madison Stevens Author Bio

Madison currently lives with her husband and two children in the Valley of the Sun in Arizona. After leaving the frozen tundra of the north, she was more surprised than anyone with how much she has enjoyed living in the desert. Seeing as she stated on more than one occasion before moving to Arizona how much she hated heat, it was an odd move, but it seems her hatred for sub-zero temperatures and ice has won out in the end.

When she’s not writing, she’s enjoying time with her family. Madison and her family frequent festivals in the area, as well as local cultural events, and spend time with family in the area. In the summer, she is most likely to be found in the pool with the family and in the winter by the fireplace. Since both her children are autistic, days can be a little chaotic, but with her husband beside her, there’s nothing she can’t handle.
