“We can move the roses into appropriate background for ceremony,” said Gerda. “I do this right now.”
“Is there a wedding tonight?” asked Nick from the donut shop, in his guise as Prince. “Because I think I have just the song for this.”
Here, he grabbed the microphone, recited the opening lyrics of “Let’s Go Crazy,” and Dave and the rest of the band began playing along.
“Guys,” said Officer Walt, waving the band to a halt, “you sound great, but let’s do the wedding and then get to the music.”
“I did have seven different Pinterest boards for wedding dresses and makeup, and then there were all the hors d’oeuvres ideas for a summer reception,” said Sophie sadly. “If we get married right now, do you think I’ll regret that I didn’t get to use my wedding mood boards?”
“Sophie,” Holly said, “look at Joe. You love him, right?”
“More than anything!” said Sophie, giving Joe, who looked pale and terrified, but determined, a little arm squeeze.
“Great,” Holly told her. “I think it’s time to walk down this aisle—well, across this dance floor to where Officer Walt is standing and where Gerda and the Colketts just formed a bank of red roses for the ceremony Who knows if Joe’s ever going to want to enter into matrimony again?”
“Joe loves you, Sophie,” John told her. “And the holidays is the perfect time to get serious about love,” he added, smiling at me. “Which is exactly why I’m back home with Kristin,” he added, taking my hand. I felt a glow inside, and it wasn’t from the rum in the eggnog. This Christmas was going to be the best ever!
“Seize the moment, doll,” Tim Colkett advised Sophie.
“You’re so right!” shrieked Sophie. “Let’s do this!” she said, as Nick started into the “Dearly beloved” part of the Prince song.
“And,” she added happily, “Joe and I can always have that themed wedding reception this summer. And, a post-reception bachelorette weekend, and then there’s the honeymoon, and some celebratory disco parties, and I can throw myself a shower. This is going to be great!”
