Captive (The Phantom Series Book 1) Page 18

As he traced small circles over the sensitive bundle of nerves he made love to me, slowly, looking down into my eyes. It was different this time, there was a gentleness to Beckett that I hadn’t seen before. A calm restraint that was unlike the rough domination I had come to know.

As he closed his lips over mine I shut my eyes and gave into the sensations of my body. The feeling of him hitting my core with each thrust, of his finger against the most sensitive part of me, my body blooming beneath him as he brought me to the edge. I gasped and bit my lip, arching my back as I felt myself so close. Beckett moved his hips faster, holding onto me, following me to the edge and as I cried out he groaned deep in his throat. When I opened my eyes, my mouth dropping open in ecstasy, I saw that he was right there with me. As my body clenched around his, he moaned and emptied into me.

Dropping his mouth to mine we kissed with fierce abandon as our bodies lost control, chasing away the pain of a tortuous day and dissolving it with pleasure. We climaxed together, falling back against the mattress in a tangle of damp skin and limbs as we tried to catch our breath.

I pressed my head to Beckett’s chest, running my hand over his torso gently, feeling calm and at peace. When I looked up he was watching me, I pressed myself onto my elbows and kissed his lips.

“Stay the night,” he asked me, winding his fingers with my own.

  I nodded.

  “Of course.”

My response made him smile and he pulled my body into his arms, cradling me against him. I rested against him, calm and content. We had both lost so much in our lives. Our families, our sense of self, but not the future. That we had finally found in each other.

The city had been rocked to its core. Marco Venetti’s trial had been a scandal for the ages, and it looked like with the mountain of evidence against him he was going to take a plea bargain for a reduced sentence. Still, it meant a good amount of jail time and that finally he would be punished for his crimes. It’s likely he’ll die behind bars.

Ella has proven how strong she is, both in her testimony at trial but also on her reporting. She broke the Venetti crime syndicate wide open, and she did it without bloodshed. I was incredibly proud of her, and falling more in love with her by the day. She continued to amaze me.

I was wearing my disguise, waiting in an empty doorway, the sounds of the city echoing off the buildings. Marco may be behind bars, but the city still needed the Phantom. I wasn’t done yet, not while criminals preyed on the weak. Marco was the beginning, and I was just getting started. His goons were still operating, and other crime families were trying to use his arrest as an opportunity to move into Vegas. I was not going to let that happen.

The Phantom was still a wanted man. Every night I was at risk, by the police hunting for me or the criminals who wanted me dead. It was a risk I had to take, whether it cost me my life or freedom. For this reason, Ella understood we still had to keep our relationship a secret. Beckett Carter spent his days running Carter Enterprises or making appearances around the city at various social functions. The Phantom continued to operate from the shadows, bringing a certain kind of justice to criminals too slippery for the police to nail down. I would never put her life at risk. I would protect her at all costs.

Ella understood completely, assuring me that she wanted to be with me and what I could offer was enough. We hid away from the world in my penthouse, or I would take her away on my private jet to remote places where no one would know us. She was my addiction. The only woman who could awaken the monster in me, and tame him at the same time.

A movement in the distance is my signal, and I look around the corner to see my target coming closer. It will happen tonight, I’ll make the world a bit safer. Then I will go home, strip from my disguise and slip into bed beside the beautiful woman waiting for me. After a lifetime feeling like I had one foot in two worlds, Ella had brought them together. With her Beckett Carter and the Phantom weren’t shattered pieces of the same man. By loving me, she finally made me whole.
