“Well, I want you two down at the Sheriff's office to give a description of this man,” she said, running a hand across her forehead to wipe away the beads of sweat. Damn, it's hot, she thought turning away from the scene. She slapped at a mosquito that was feeding on her arm. It left a smear of blood and bug goo on her skin. “You two hear me then?” she asked, wiping the mess as best she could.
“We'll be on down. Don't you worry,” Billy Ray said, nodding his head. “Hain't never seen nothing like this. Reckon it's them twins what disappeared a while back?”
“Maybe,” Grace said. “I'll see you in a bit.” She began to work her way through the brush toward the Mustang that was her pride and joy.
Sheriff Grace Lee Shanley had never seen anything like this before either. Once again, she asked herself, can my life get any more complicated?
