Real Love 4 (If Loving You is Wrong)

“John Dewey, who once disguised himself as a preacher and had tried to arrogate the pastor’s position at El Shaddai Ministries will serve his time. Supreme Justice, Anita Hanks had inflicted the maximum punishment, life imprisonment, without the possibility of parole. Some protesters are seeking the death penalty…”

Hunter walked into the living room and silently joined Sasha on the sofa. She rarely turned on the fifty-two inch flat screen TV in this part of the house. With so many other rooms to watch television in, she had no reason to. But ever since Drake and Sasha had been staying with her, Hunter had gotten a greater use out of the open area, where they all would congregate from time to time. And although Hunter wanted to start a conversation, she decided to wait until the news switched to a commercial. Because with Sasha’s attention so embedded in what was being currently reported, Hunter doubted Sasha would hear a word she had to say. So the minute Hunter saw an opening, she seized it.

“At least you don’t have to worry about Dewey and his men coming back to hurt you or Drake,” she said. “The nightmare is over.”

Sasha turned to face her friend. “I hope that is true, because I don’t have the strength nor the desire to keep looking over my shoulder. Drake had better thank God for the way things turned out.”

“Cut your husband some slack,” Hunter said. “I’m sure he is grateful. He is one of the most grateful men I know. He’s having a ‘thank you’ service this morning for the Devin’s Cay Police and all those who are grateful to God for making the island safe once again. You should be proud to have a man like that on your side.”

Sasha could see in Hunter’s eyes that there was a hidden message in those words, which seemed to allude to her alleged attraction to Levi. However, Hunter needed not to worry about Sasha stepping out on Drake or pursuing Levi in any way. She had accepted her lot in life, which was with her husband, helping to lead El Shaddai Ministries into a greater future. But in all fairness, Sasha genuinely loved Drake and that was enough for her to be happy. Now was she prepared to tell Drake about her recent slip up with Levi in the boys’ locker room? That was an entirely different story Sasha had yet to wrap her head around. She may or may not tell Drake about it.

“Kevin asked me to marry him,” Hunter deadpanned, her words taking what was left of the air in the room. “And I have accepted…he’s a wonderful man and I don’t see why not.”

Sasha stared at Hunter as if she’d lost her mind. “You are kidding me, right?”

“I wouldn’t kid about something like that.”

“I shouldn’t have to tell you this, but marriage is a big step. It’s not to be entered into lightly.”

“I know, honey,” Hunter said. “But I feel optimistic about Kevin’s traits and I think that he will make a great husband. Besides, it’s not like we’re getting married tomorrow.”

“Oh my God, Hunter. I can’t believe you guys have already planned a date.”

Hunter laughed. “No, silly. But I doubt Kevin will want to wait beyond a year.”

  “What gave you that impression?”

“I don’t know…I just feel that way. Kevin seems to know what he wants and you can’t fault a man for that.”

Sasha shrugged, not knowing what else to say. She reached out and pulled Hunter into a warm embrace. “Well, my one and only BFF, if you’re happy, then I’m happy. I wish you and Kevin nothing but the best, along with God’s grace to make it a wonderful marriage.”

“Thank you, hon. I’m believing God to do just that.”

Some of what’s to come in Book 5

Rena marched into Lewis’ office, like she normally did, without bothering to knock. She plunged down in the chair in front of him and gave him a smile that didn’t quite reach her eyes.

“I have come up with a solution,” she started, “that will allow me to inherit the bulk of my father’s estate, while Drake receives the smaller portion.”

Lewis pushed the document aside he’d been working on and gave Rena a sarcastic smirk. “Oh, this is gonna be good. What are you up to now, Rena? I’ve already told you that if you contest your father’s will, you will be promptly disinherited.”

“Lewis, I’m disappointed in your answer, because it shows you have no faith in me at all.” Rena reached into her purse and pulled out the revolver she’d purchased a few days ago. She hoisted it in the air, pointing it between Lewis’ eyes. “Now, I’m letting you know right now, you old buzzard, how my father’s estate is going to be distributed.”
