Ravishing Rebounds: A Slapshot Novella (Slapshot Series Book 10) Page 7

“We’re together,” Amanda said. “I’m going to meet his kids Friday night.”

Seraphina raised her brow in surprise but Amanda did not think there was judgment behind it. Honestly, it felt good to finally tell someone. She had Madison, of course, but it felt nice to talk about Dimitri like he was her boyfriend that she could mention in casual conversation with anyone.

“That is serious,” she remarked. She grabbed a ballpoint pen and noted something down in her planner. “Are you happy?” Seraphina clicked the pen and put it down, leaning back in her chair and looking at Amanda with curiosity in her eyes.

“I’m sorry?” Amanda wasn’t sure if she heard the question correctly.

“Are you happy?” Seraphina repeated. “You’re going to have to give up your job because it is against our rules for a player and an employee to be together.” She stopped herself and a tight smile broke out onto her face. “And as I say this, I realize I am the biggest hypocrite.” She rolled her eyes to the ceiling and placed her hands in her lap. “Honestly, Amanda, I can’t tell you what to do. This is your life, and if you’re happy, if Dimitri is happy, that’s all that matters. Sometimes, we have to break the rules. We have to put ourselves first. Do you understand what I’m saying? Sometimes, we have to create new rules.”

Amanda nodded. “I think I do,” she admitted.

“I don’t want you to feel like you have to hide your relationship,” Seraphina said. “But at the same time, I don’t want your relationship to be an excuse for others to sleep around or to get distracted.”

Amanda nodded again. She wasn’t sure what to say. She thought Seraphina was—

But she didn’t want to get her hopes up either.

“You aren’t fired,” Seraphina finally said. “I am going to ask that you consider leaving the position of Ice Princess and consider a transfer upstairs so there is less interaction between the two of you, but I can’t force it. All I ask is that you are both respectful and you don’t do anything to put yourselves on display. Now, get downstairs. I’m sure Katella will lose her shit if you were late.”

Amanda felt her heart burst. She wasn’t fired. She could still see Dimitri.

She got out of her seat and slowly headed back to the elevator, trying to keep her excitement inside of herself. When the doors opened and she saw Dimitri—probably on his way up to see Seraphina for the same reason she had—Amanda could not stop herself: she stepped into the elevator before Dimitri could step out, presses the DOORS CLOSE button, and pulled Dimitri into a passionate, celebratory kiss.
