Her smile became a little stronger. “Really?”

“Oh yeah.” His hand dipped beneath the elastic band of her hot pink, lace panties. “I had to threaten them with bodily harm just so they’d keep their distance.”

She laughed and reached around to cup his denim-clad ass. “My hero.”

He hooked a finger into either side of her panties and slid them down her legs as she watched him in the mirror. “I was just protecting what’s mine.”

She licked her lips as he dipped a finger between her slick folds. “You make it sound like I’m your property,” she said breathlessly.

“You’re mine, just like I’m yours. My wife, my lover, soon you’re going to be the mother of my baby.”

She opened her eyes and smiled. “I like the sound of that.”

He sank his teeth into the hollow at the base of her collarbone and revelled in her sharp intake of breath.

She ground her pussy into his hand and moaned. “Oh yes.”

He flicked his finger over her clit. “Open your eyes; I want you to watch yourself come for me.”

She opened her eyes to look at her reflection.

“Tell me what you see,” he said, stroking her faster and harder.

“My cheeks are flushed.” She moaned when he dipped two fingers into her pussy. “My eyes are glossy.”

He used the other hand to spread her open so she could see the juices coating her lips. “What else?”

“I’m so wet,” she whispered, licking her lips. “Wet and pink and…”

“Does it turn you on?” he asked, licking the shell of her ear.

“Yes…” she cried, as he eased another finger into her tight channel.

He reached up to coat her nipple with his fingers. “Tell me what you see when you look at these.”

Her eyes travelled from her pussy to her tits. “They’re so big, full, heavy…” She moaned when he lubricated her ass with her pussy juice. “Oh God, yes.”

“Look at yourself,” he whispered in her ear. “Describe to me what you see.” He could see her shedding her inhibitions as her eyes travelled up and down her body.

“I look sexy, hot, turned on.”

He raised her arms above her head and captured both wrists in one hand as he continued to stroke her clit with the other. “What else?”

She tried to keep her eyes open, to focus on her image in the mirror, even as her muscles tightened around his fingers. “I look beautiful,” she whispered, seemingly surprised by her admission. “Oh Chase, you’re gonna make me come.”

He watched her reflection as she gave herself over to her body’s intense demands. He was certain it was the first time she’d ever considered herself beautiful, a thought that was inconceivable to him.

“Louder,” he said, needing to hear her say it with conviction. He knew she needed to believe in herself before she could start to believe in them. There was no way he was going to let anything, including her fear and insecurity, threaten their marriage again.

She bit her lip as the tremors continued to wrack her body. “I am beautiful,” she said, her voice sounding strong and steady as a tear slipped down her cheek. She wriggled to break free of Chase’s grasp so she could turn into his arms. “That’s really how you see me, isn’t it?”

He locked his hands around her waist. “Baby, you’re the most amazing woman I’ve ever met.”

She smiled and leaned her cheek against his chest. “Thank you,” she said. “Thank you for helping me to see that.”

He fisted his hand in her hair, tipping her head back so he could claim her mouth. “I need to be inside of you. Now.” He dropped his hands as he reached around to shed his jeans. He kicked the jeans aside as he grabbed her ass to hoist her up. “Wrap your legs around me,” he muttered, tearing his mouth away from hers.

She locked her legs around his waist as she pulled his t-shirt over his head.

He carried her into the bedroom, depositing her on the bed as he crawled on top of her.

“Do you have any idea what’s it’s been like for me this past year?” he asked, not caring that he was admitting to a need that put him completely at her mercy. “I didn’t know if I was gonna get through it.”

She propped herself up on her elbows. “What are you talking about?”

He had been afraid to admit his weakness even to himself. “There were some dark days, Taylor.”

She reached up to stroke his cheek. “You’re not saying…” She let the unspoken words hang in the air between them.

He swallowed, trying to find the words to make her understand the depth of his despair. “You know I’m not a quitter. But there were times when you refused to see me that I started to give up, on everything.”

“Chase,” she said quietly. “You would’ve found someone else eventually.”

He kissed her lips, needing the physical connection to prove this wasn’t another of his late night fantasies where she would appear and tell him she wanted him back. “That’s just it; I couldn’t find anyone else like you. No one even came close.”

She closed her eyes. “I’m so glad. If I’d lost you because of my own stupidity, I’d never have been able to forgive myself.”

He gripped her hips, feeling the need to hold on to her. “If you’re in, I need to know you’re all in. I love you more than anything, but I can’t go through this again.”

She opened her eyes to look at him. “I’m in this forever. Promise me, no matter what happens, you’ll never leave me again?”

He slid his hand between them to ensure she was ready to take him. He eased his cock into her slowly, waiting until he was fully seated to answer her question. “From now on, I’m going to make sure there isn’t a doubt in your mind about me or us. Nothing is going to take priority over my marriage, not my career, friends, family, nothing.” He began to stroke her with his hard cock. “Because you’re the one thing I can’t live without, Taylor, I know that now.”

“I feel the same way,” she whispered, lifting her hips to meet his demands.

“Jesus,” he muttered, feeling his balls tighten as she gripped his cock. He forced himself to open his eyes so he could look down at her. “Then maybe this…” he panted, desperate to get the words out. “Was supposed to happen.” He pinned her thighs with his hands, forcing her legs to open wider.

“You think…” She reached up to grab the headboard as he thrust into her harder and faster. “Our split was a good thing?”

He could feel his release taking over as every muscle in his body tensed. He reached between them to stroke her clit, desperate to give her what she needed before he was willing to let go. He waited until they were both spent before pulling out and easing down beside her. “Our separation made me realize what’s important.”

She smiled up at him. “Then maybe it was a good thing.”

He kissed the top of her head as he glanced at the alarm clock. “Damn it, I’ve got to get to practice.”

“Before you go, can I ask you something?”

  “You can ask me anything.”

“Will you come home with me tonight after the game?”

Chase cupped her face to kiss her lips, thoroughly, reverently. He knew it didn’t matter whether his team won or lost tonight because he’d already earned the big prize. “I thought you’d never ask, sweetheart.”

“About the charges,” she said, stroking his beard roughened cheek. “Whatever happens, we’ll face it together.”

Any reservations he may have been harbouring about her commitment to him disappeared with those words. “They’ve dropped the charges. A DNA test cleared me.”

She reached up and wrapped her arms around his neck. “Really? That means we can put this awful year behind us and move on with our lives, right?”

He shook his head. “Not so fast, Taylor.”

Her face fell. “But I thought…”

“Wait here,” he said. He got up and walked into his closet, bending over to punch his code into the wall safe. He ext
racted the ring and fisted it in his hand as he walked back to the bed.

She sat up and brushed her fingers through her tousled hair.

She looked more beautiful now than she did the first time he placed this ring on her finger all those years ago. “Lady, you take my breath away,” he whispered.

“Right back atcha,” she said with a saucy grin.

He held the ring between his thumb and forefinger as he sat on the edge of the bed. “I’d get down on my knees and do this right, but I have a feeling if I did that, I just might miss the biggest game of my career. God knows I’m not strong enough to resist that kind of temptation.”

She smiled as she held her hand out to him. She looked up to meet his eyes. “I wasn’t sure if you’d ever want me to wear this ring again.”

He slipped it on her finger, where it belonged. He raised her hand to meet his lips. “It almost killed me when you took it off.”

“I’ll never take it off again,” she whispered, admiring the ring’s reflection in the sunlight peeking through the shades.

“That’s a promise I intend to make sure you keep, beautiful.”
