Wolves of River’s Bend 3
Fated for Mikayla
Mikayla Lowell loves hard. When one of her best friends goes missing, she leaves the shifter community of River’s Bend to look for her in the big city. No good deed goes unpunished, though, and Mikayla is kidnapped by two men claiming to be her mates.
Wolf shifters Jack Marrok and Hunter Lyall never expected to kidnap their own mate, but it’s the only way to protect her from a ruthless evil. Then comes the hard part. Not only do they have to convince Mikayla to trust them, but they also have to get her safely back to River’s Bend, a task she doesn’t make easy.
Despite the powerful mating bond, things are not simple for the trio. Mikayla loves River’s Bend and intends to spend her life there, but Jack and Hunter vow never to live under an alpha’s rule again. Can love flourish despite their differences? Will a threat to River’s Bend destroy everything they hold dear anyway?

Prologue
Ulric grabbed the sexy blonde by the hair, wrapping his fist in it and pulling her up until she straddled his cock, which remained wet from the attentions of her mouth. She immediately began to move her hips, sliding back and forth on his swollen dick. He knew a moment’s regret that she wasn’t his mate. She was not only beautiful, with thick, long, blonde hair and slanted green eyes, but she was devious. He’d known it from the moment they’d met. A perfect match for him. Apparently fate didn’t think so, though, because he’d felt no tell-tale electric spark, no overwhelming need to take her on the spot. But he did lust for her, and whether she was his mate or not, he meant to have her however and whenever he wanted.
She bent down and bit his bottom lip, not gentle, never gentle, biting to the edge of pain. This one liked it rough, just like he did. He let go of her hair to grab her hips, lifting her slightly to impale her on his cock. Her pussy grabbed him like a vise, a creamy wet vise, and she took every inch of him, growling at him in pleasure.
“Are you sure you can get me in?” he asked, his mind never far from his goal, even in pleasure.
She breathed deeply, swiveling her hips, greedily riding his cock. “I guarantee your entry to River’s Bend will be as smooth as your entrance to my pussy.”
That would be smooth indeed. Ulric growled and grabbed her hair again, maneuvering to squeeze her breasts together, mouthing them, licking them, and biting her nipples. She’d come to him, tracked him down, and offered to help him gain entry to River’s Bend. She’d spotted him when he set the fire outside of River’s Bend months ago, and he’d wondered for weeks about the beautiful blonde who simply smiled and walked away rather than alert her alphas to his presence. She was out for revenge of a different sort, but she’d convinced him of her sincerity and spread her legs for him with enthusiasm. They were a good team in bed, and she was the best fuck he’d had in years. Maybe ever. “You guarantee it?”
“You’ll have…” She gasped and bucked against him as he thrust harder into her pussy, but she managed to force out an answer. “Free rein.”
That was good enough for him. He flipped her onto her back, keeping his dick buried inside her, and she maneuvered until her legs were up on his shoulders. Taking her cue, he reared back and pounded into her harder and faster until they were both panting from the exertion. Still, he had one more thing he wanted to say to her before he came. “You, Jackie, are the kind of woman a wolf could love.”
Chapter 1
“You’re not going to send someone after her?” Mikayla shook her head with disbelief, looking from one alpha to the other. “She’s a member of our clan and a longtime friend to your daughter.” This
she directed at Zion, the one who should know better.
“I don’t need reminding of that fact, Mikayla.” Zion’s voice was stern but his expression remained mild. Still, Mikayla knew she should tread carefully.
Grey growled, his first time making any real contact since she’d approached them. His voice reeked of boredom when he finally spoke. “It’s not your place to question your alphas.”
“My place?” She stared back at him, careful to keep the defiance as hidden as possible. “No disrespect intended, but I have been a member of this clan my entire life.” Much longer than you have, asshole. “Am I to have no opinion? No voice?” Grey had been her alpha for less than a year, and only because her clan, Clan Raven, had merged with Clan Lycan, creating one large clan of wolf shifters, with two alphas. Zion had been her alpha since she was a pup, and she both loved and respected him. His only daughter Nikki was her best friend. She owed her allegiance and obedience to Grey since he was her alpha now, too, but she didn’t like the man and respecting him came hard. He did what an alpha was supposed to do, more or less, but he seemed to have a certain disdain for the clan members, even those who were formerly from Clan Lycan. He acted more like a king than an alpha, and she already knew he hated being questioned. She wished she could have gotten Zion alone to talk to him, but that had become harder and harder as the alphas dealt with preparations for war with the alpha known as Ulric and his Crimson Moon Pack. Then there had been the first of the battles to deal with. This might be her only chance.
“We welcome your opinions, Mikayla, as we do the opinions of all members of Clan Liekos.” Zion looked sincere while Grey frowned at his words. “But as I’ve told Nikki, there is nothing I can do.”
“You can’t spare one man? Not one?” She fought to keep her voice low, even. “This is Liz we’re talking about.”
“One man wouldn’t be safe out there alone. I’d have to send a group of men, and they would face the risk of an attack by Ulric. I’m sorry, Mikayla, but I did send messages to all of our clan members outside of River’s Bend, calling them home. If Liz decided to disobey me, she’s on her own.”
Mikayla could clearly see the signs of stress on Zion’s face. He’d watched Liz grow up, just as he had her and Robyn. She couldn’t quite wrap her mind around the idea that he wouldn’t make an exception…for Liz’s sake.
“This is the price of disobedience.” Grey got up from his seat next to Zion’s desk and looked out the window. “What you, what all the women need to remember, is that we’re doing all of this to protect you. We can’t spare a man because doing so would give us fewer warriors to keep you women, pups, and anyone else who cannot fight, safe.”
He turned to face her, tall, strong, and still striking, with dark hair and a warrior’s body, even at his advancing age. She would have thought Carolyn, his mate, was a lucky woman, having someone so attractive to grow old with, but the hardness in his eyes and the way he treated everyone made her feel sorry for the woman instead.
“Of course, I’m grateful. But I’d be more grateful if I knew Liz was safe.” The last time she’d spoken to Liz was weeks ago, before the alphas gave the order that all clan members return home to the territory. Liz, living in New York while trying to make a name for herself as an interior designer, wouldn’t have been happy to get the order to come home, but Mikayla knew she wouldn’t outright disobey their alphas’ orders like that. The fact that she hadn’t returned had Mikayla worried. Very worried. And her best friends Nikki and Robyn agreed. Nikki had already had it out with Zion, her father, to no avail. Mikayla hadn’t really thought she’d have better luck, but she had to try. She had to.
“Well,” Grey said, returning to his seat and looking up at her like she was an ill-favored child to be humored but not really listened to. “You’ll have to content yourself with the answer you’ve been given. The conversation’s over.”
Mikayla bit the inside of her cheek, fighting to control the impulse to curse the man three ways from Sunday. Whether she liked him or not, he was one of her alphas and he could punish her if he wanted to. “Zion?” She looked up at the man she saw as a second father, pleading with her eyes for him to see reason. “Please?”
“I’m sorry, Mikayla. I understand how you and Nikki must feel… Robyn, too.” He heaved a hard sigh. “But my priority is River’s Bend. I can’t spare the men.” He reached for her, perhaps to give her some sort of reassuring pat or squeeze, but she backed away, disappointed, utterly disappointed in the man she’d looked up to for so long.
Even when he’d told Nikki she had to join with Luke Andres, Grey’s oldest son, Mikayla hadn’t felt so disappointed in him. And that had worked out wonderfully. Nikki was happily mated not only to Luke but also to his younger brother Mason. This? Mikayla had a feeling this wouldn’t work out so well. Wolves weren’t good as loners in the best of times, and wartime made being on one’s own even more disturbing and dangerous.
Turning abruptly, she slammed out of Zion’s office, a small but satisfying act of defiance, and as she hastily made her way to the front door of the lodge, she decided to risk yet another. If Zion and that sexist excuse for a leader Grey wouldn’t send someone after Liz, she’d go find her herself.
* * * *
Mikayla had hurried back to the cabin she’d been given as a temporary residence during the war. She lived in the clan-owned town of Silver Spring, which was just a few miles away, but the alphas had decided it was easiest to protect everyone with as much of the clan as possible back in the territory. In particular, most of the women were expected to stay put inside River’s Bend’s borders. She’d had to take a leave of absence from her job to comply. Now, though, she was grateful that some of the clan still maintained a presence in Silver Spring. It would give her just the excuse she needed to get past the clan’s border patrol.
Grabbing an overnight bag from the cabin she’d been given for her time in River’s Bend, as well as a few weapons she’d learned to use during her training with Nikki, she jogged back over to the lodge. She wouldn’t make it far on foot, so she’d have to borrow a car. River’s Bend didn’t have a lot of roads. The few they did have led as far as the lodge, the alphas’ huge home, and that was it. Otherwise, she’d have had her own car at her disposal. As things stood, she would have to borrow one of the alphas’ cars, drive it to her home in Silver Spring, and jump into her own car to head to New York.
She hoped whatever punishment the alphas decided to lay down would be less severe if she didn’t take the car very far away. And while she could have borrowed a friend’s car, she didn’t want to risk getting any of them into trouble right along with her. No, this was her decision, and she’d go it entirely alone.
Thanking God that the alphas always left the keys right up under their car mats, she chose the midnight blue SUV Zion’s staff used to make grocery runs to Silver Spring. She hit River’s Bend’s border in less than five minutes, stopping only when one of the men guarding the border flagged her down.
It was Liam. “Hey, Mikayla. Where ya headed?”
She’d known Liam forever. They’d all played together as pups. He should be one of the ones out there looking for Liz. “Into town…to see…Jackie.” Shit! Why had she said that? Jackie was Zion’s bitchy niece. She’d been called home to River’s Bend, too, but had refused thus far to give up her job. The alphas had extra eyes on things in town and had agreed to let her continue working for the time being. It was one of the perks of being related to an alpha. “Borrowed this heap for a few hours.” Oh, shit! Did she really just take one of Zion’s cars?
“Huh.” Liam leaned down to look at her. “I didn’t think you and Jackie got along.”
And that was why it was stupid as far as alibis went, but Mikayla wasn’t much of a liar, and she’d said the first thing that popped into her mind. The first stupid thing. “Whatever, Liam. Who says you know everything there is to know about me anyway?”
“All right.” He shrugged. “Get back before dark.” He tap
ped the door of the car in dismissal.
Mikayla realized it then. She might just be crazy. And she would sure as hell face some sort of punishment for it, but she was going to find her friend and bring her back to River’s Bend.
* * * *
Mikayla made it in and out of her Silver Spring home in less than fifteen minutes, afraid someone would notice the alpha’s SUV and come knocking. She hastily scrawled a letter of explanation and an apology, placing it on the front seat, along with the keys. Even with the battles with Ulric going on, no one was likely to bother it. Eventually, though, a clan member would stop by her house to look for her and find it. That taken care of, she hopped into her sensible four-door sedan and hit the road.
Mikayla drove for as long as she could before allowing herself to think. Not only had she’d defied both alphas but she’d practically stolen a car, something she never would have even imagined doing. She was so often the sensible one of their little group of friends, and she didn’t quite know what had gotten into her.
More than once she considered turning around and going back to beg the alphas’ forgiveness. Yet each time, memories of playing dolls with Liz as a child and laughing with her at their teenage slumber parties assaulted her. Then there was all the laughter and tears they’d shared as adults. Those memories, as much as her conviction that something was terribly wrong, kept her going through traffic, detours and long stretches of open highway. It sustained her through two pit stops for food and gas and another to relieve herself. Only then did she text Nikki and Robyn to tell them where she was headed. She couldn’t call them. Her friends were worried for Liz, too, but she couldn’t have them talking her out of her big plan. She pushed past more doubt when her cell phone started to ring and she had to admit to herself that she really didn’t have much of a plan. Marching up to Liz’s door and knocking was on the menu, but beyond that, she had a whole lot of nothing.
