Travelling Light Page 3

by Vickie Johnstone

old

  the wise list

  in green lands,

  spirits running

  free in the form

  of the wolf

  wildest of the

  wise, we leap

  through the damp

  heart of the woods,

  listen to the still

  night that hears

  learning anew

  the chase of old

  streaking the earth

  with fresh trails

  distancing the ages

  long gone

  Play

I’m a dancer in the sea

  Bubbles play with me

  As I hold my nose

  Everything glows

  In chill water immerse

  A happy verse

I’m a dancer in the sea

  Come and play with me

  Swim beside me here

  Where I have no fear

  Here I am one

  Having all the fun

I’m a dancer in the sea

  Swimming here so free

  Bubbles pass me by

  Up to the bluest sky

  I am but seven

  This is my heaven

  Moving on

  Any day is but yesterday

  Count the hours

  Everybody knows

  Chase the shadows that dance

  Meaningful waves

  Cutting the skies

A crazy dance played in rhyme

  So the story goes

  As you write it

Leaving no sense of the spaces

  Lain dark in between

  The dreaming

So to play a pretty chord or two

  I can dance

  Play a tune

Under the crystal light of dawn

  Stuttered glances

  Chasing thoughts

Say to scribe a watching verse or two

  Slow to rhyme

  Fast to speak

Out of tune I play another time

  So forgetting, you

  Chance to remember

Days forgot in the rush of time

  Endless rain dances

  Echoes of droplets

Fallen among the ashes of yesterday

  Gather them up

  Sweeping red petals

Fresh the dew that weeps on grass

  In the shimmering

  Lights flow

  Two

  In love with the beloved

  Love will know no end

There is no end to love

  If beloved is the one

  In love is the beloved

She is loved as he is loved

  One to be forever more

  Two in love entwined

This was written for my friends’ wedding, but I was too embarrassed to write it in their card!

  The swans

  Swans gather before the storm

  The pitch of grace forlorn

  They swim this way alone

A white ghost ship sails here

They honk their sound to clear

The way for the silken tide

  Their moonlit water wings

Seem to glide with the air of kings

An eerie way through the calm

They bob their dark heads soon

  Knowingly gathering the moon

  In their clear eyes reflected

This heat hangs lucid in the air

  Hovering over each dancing pair

As they slice their way through

  Effortless without any fuss

Is this grace they bestow on us

  The passing of ages flown

  Strings

  Steal the song

  Never sung

  In the mirror

  Always cracked

  On the ocean

  Leaps in time

  As you sing

  Unending rhyme

  Colours flicker

  Pictures echo

  Holding back

  The aching sound

  Beats the dark

  Double bass

  Diving

  Sinking

  In a stream of bubbles

  Light, white, bright

  Fresh air flies above

  Restless

  I dive

  Down

  Down

  Deeper into this dark

  No light beckons

  No thoughts cry out

  I dive

  Deeper

  I feel the lightness

  The weightlessness

  Of falling

  No safety chute

  Only me

  Light as a feather

  In this warm glow

  Of the summer

  Sun

  I fall

  Sliding into the void

  Where we like to play

  Here the bubbles

  Dance

  Around my head

  Waking

  A dream

  Of swimming like a fish

  With scales

  Sparkling orange

  Slipping and sliding

  Out of reach

  I breathe now

  The bubbles drift away

  I watch them

  Float free

  Breathing

  Breathing
