  "Name it, Jaguar."

  Time passed with the slow and steady sound of her breathing, the continued patient beating of her heart.

  "You," she said at last, her eyes glittering in the dark. "It's just you."

  They sat for some time in silence, staying in the quiet place necessary before reentering a dangerous and unquiet world. Alex wondered what prayers she said, after the empathic touch. He knew that his would include the guidance blessing—the one that asked for help in remaining open to what would be.

  When the band signaled her that break was over, she rose and returned to the stage. While she was singing Alex slipped out into the night, and found his own way home.
