Prelude
I noticed her the first day she walked into our office. Lily was pretty enough with her blonde hair cascading to just below her shoulders and slight frame, but what attracted me was her demeanour. Even compared to other new graduates, you could see her nervousness from the way she walked and the way she averted eye contact when talking to anyone.
Every day I watched Lily from my desk, imagining what I would do when I had her. It had been a long time since I had found a girl who shared my unusual tastes and I ached to find another innocent girl to corrupt in my own special way.
I heard bits and pieces of gossip from our colleagues which suggested that she didn’t have a boyfriend and her lack of confidence meant that she wouldn’t get one soon. Every scrap of information like this convinced me to a greater and greater extent that she was perfect for what I had in mind.
Despite this, I was a named partner of our company – the great Jack Beaumont - and she was a new starter, fresh out of university so even getting in a situation where I could talk to her was difficult. Of course, she didn’t initiate any contact and even a simple greeting would cause her to blush and avert her eyes as if she was hoping she was somewhere else. It only made me want her more as my frustration built up over nearly a year.
The tension within me built up until I finally found an opportunity to make Lily mine. In whimsical moments, I sometime wonder what she thought about the whole adventure. It is a secondary concern as in the end, I got what I wanted. I always do. That is the kind of man I am.
Chapter 1: Meeting Jack Beaumont
I clearly remember my first day in the accounts department of Beaumont, Williams and Thorne, the successful boutique legal practice. It was my first ever job and I was uneasy as I walked through the modern imposing entrance to the reception desk and past a glass sculpture emblazoned with the company logo.
I had picked out my clothes days in advance after staking out the building to see what everyone else wore. I had therefore modelled myself on the typical female staff member with a grey jacket over a simple white blouse. My grey skirt came to just above the knee. Black tights and black high-heeled shoes completed the look.
As had been requested, I asked for Katie Cavendish at reception and after a short wait, was greeted by a pretty brunette in her mid-thirties.
“I’m Katie,” she said extending a hand towards me. “I am going to be your manager.”
“I’m Lily Carlisle,” I said, taking her hand tentatively before following her through a sparse corridor into an open-plan office.
“There are about forty of us who work for the company in total, but it is just you, me and two others in the accounts department. I’ll take you around to introduce you to the rest of the company as soon as you get settled.”
At that point, we had reached a group of four desks in the corner of the office. Two were taken by the other members of the accounting team. Katie’s desk was obvious as it was full of holiday pictures of her and, presumably, her husband.
I sat at the empty desk tentatively and turned on the computer in front of me as Katie leaned over her own desk and scanned her screen. With an annoyed noise, she started typing an email.
“You must be Lily,” said a young, plump woman sitting opposite me. “I am Susan and this is Beverley.” She gestured to the older woman sitting next to her. “Welcome to the team.”
“Thank you,” I said. “I am keen to get started.”
At that point, Katie seemed to finish what she was doing and asked me if I was ready to meet everyone. She took me around the office introducing me to each person in turn who would politely ask me questions to make small talk. I felt like I had explained to every person in the office that I studied Maths at university and went horse riding on a weekend and was renting a flat around ten minutes’ walk from the office. I forgot every name almost as soon as I had heard it and was desperate to just get this awkward ritual out of my way. We had gone around the whole room when Katie took me to one of the only offices at the side of the room.
She knocked on the door, before opening it slowly.
“Come in,” said a deep voice on the other side.
“This is Jack Beaumont, one of the partners,” said Katie, gesturing to a powerfully-built man sitting behind a large wooden desk. “Jack, this is Lily who has just started today.”
He was younger than I would have expected – perhaps mid to late thirties with short brown hair and piercing eyes. My eyes were drawn to his vibrant red tie against his white shirt as he stood up and extended a hand towards me.
“Very pleased to meet you,” he said as he took my hand in his strong grip. As I tried to let go, he held it a moment too long. Instinctively, I looked up into his eyes to find them locked on me as he released his grip. My cheeks flushed as I tried to look away. “I hope you will enjoy working for us.” He continued speaking as he resumed his seat.
I nodded and mumbled “I’m sure I will.” Unlike the others, Jack didn’t ask me any further questions so Katie ushered me out of the room. There was something about the way Jack had looked at me which made me uncomfortable. I hadn’t had a guy look at me that way before and I couldn’t get it out of my head.
Despite my first day nerves, I gradually became more comfortable in my role as the months progressed. I found the work relatively straightforward and had soon made friends with Katie, Susan and Beverley. I felt shy around the other people in the office, but none of the accounts people really mixed with the lawyers so this wasn’t a big problem for me.
Although I didn’t speak to Jack, he was a noticeable presence in the office. Every now and then, he would stride out of his office to speak to one of the lawyers and his booming voice would carry across the room. The other partners were almost unnoticeable by comparison. I am sure they were both excellent at their jobs, but it was clear that Jack was running the office.
As it happened, my desk faced Jack’s office and every now and then, I would lift my head up to see him looking straight at me through the glass walls. Invariably, I would quickly look down to my work and try to pretend that nothing had happened, but I felt the burning on my cheeks as my embarrassment betrayed me.
Katie was the only one of us who talked to Jack as she reported directly to him. She would often come out of his office in a bad mood having been reprimanded for some error or problem. Then she would take it out on the team by making us work harder to rectify whatever the issue was. It was after one such event, around six months after I had started, that she told me his secret.
Katie and I were alone in the office working late. Katie had been told off by Jack because some of our numbers were not adding up and I was helping her to find the error. After painstakingly reconstructing the numbers we had found the problem and had just finished the revised report for Jack.
“Thanks for your help tonight, Lily,” said Katie. “Jack can be
demanding when he wants to be and I couldn’t have done this without you.”
“No problem. I hope he is happy with this tomorrow,” I replied, taking the final report off the printer and passing it to Katie.
“I’m sure he will be. If not, well, I’d better just hope the rumours about him aren’t true.” Katie smiled at me, but I didn’t understand the meaning.
“What rumours?”
“I thought everyone knew,” Katie laughed. “You are so innocent Lily.”
“Tell me,” I said, eagerly leaning towards Katie. I was intrigued.
Katie looked from side to side, checking we were along and lowered her voice. “I heard that Jack was into BDSM.”
“BDSM?” I asked, still confused.
“You know, bondage and domination – stuff like that.”
I blushed, unsure what to say. Katie filled the silence with further details.
“Apparently, before I joined the company, there was one girl who he used to date. Some days she would come in and you could see the pain in her eyes as she sat down due to the spanking he had given her the night before.”
“Oh my god,” I exclaimed. “What happened to her?”
“I don’t know. I assume they just broke up and she left. This is all third-hand information so who knows how much is true. He does look the type though.”
I nodded thoughtfully. Part of me was horrified by this apparent revelation, but there was also a tinge of excitement. I had lost my virginity in my first year of university to a drunken fumble but hadn’t had anyone show interest in me since. As a result I felt desperate to have sex again and part of me longed for a man to take control and satisfy me. I fantasised that the way Jack looked at me meant that he wanted me although I was sure it was just my imagination. Jack was rich, confident and he could surely have any woman he wanted.
“Hey,” Katie said, breaking my thoughts. “You had a weird look in your eyes for a moment there. Please don’t tell anyone I told you.”
“I won’t,” I said.
“Anyway, I think we’re finished for tonight. Let’s both go home.” With that Katie put on her jacket and coat and we both walked out of the office together in silence. I couldn’t get our conversation out of my head. Did I really want Jack in that way? Did he want me? Were the rumours true? I didn’t have to wait long before I found out the answers to all of these questions.
Chapter 2: Inside Jack’s Flat
The next day I arrived at work just before nine o’clock as usual to find Beverley and Susan already sitting at their desks.
“Katie has rung in sick,” said Beverley as I hung my jacket on the back of my chair and booted up my computer. Susan had some work for me which I could get on with so I didn’t think anything of Katie’s absence for the first hour of the day.
Katie’s phone rang and Susan picked it up. I barely registered this until Susan turned to me and said “It’s Jack. He wants to speak to you.”
It was unusual for anyone to call me and I had barely ever spoken to Jack so I had a moment of confusion. Then, I suddenly realised that with Katie absent, nobody had given Jack the report we had been working so hard on the previous night. As soon as I put the phone to my ear, Jack’s familiar voice confirmed this.
“Susan has just told me about Katie. I needed that report an hour ago. It has to be reviewed and checked by the end of the day.”
“We finished it last night. I could email it to you.”
“That is no good. I need a hard copy to present to the other partners when I meet them tomorrow and my home printer is on the blink again.”
“Don’t you live in town?” I said, remembering that Katie had previously told me that Jack lived in one of the exclusive penthouses in the city centre. “I could arrange for someone to deliver it to you in half an hour or so.”
“That should work,” said Jack, the frustration that had been evident in his voice earlier seeming to slip away. “But I need you to bring it. I might have some more questions if the numbers don’t add up again.”
“OK,” I said. “Give me the address and I’ll be there as soon as possible.”
As Jack provided me with the address and directions I felt happy that I had managed to avert a potential disaster, but also nervous about being alone with Jack. If he noticed anything wrong with the report, I wasn’t confident without Katie to back me up.
It took me around twenty minutes to reach Jack’s building. It was a towering semi-circular building with offices on the lower three floors and living areas further up. Jack’s flat was on the twenty-first floor which was near the top. The lift was glass and I could see all the way across the city as it sped to Jack’s floor. When the lift doors opened, I could immediately see the door to flat 211 directly in front of me. A short corridor led to the left but I could only see one other door to a flat on this floor. Given the size of the building, I deduced that the flats must be huge. I would have expected nothing less for Jack.
I took a moment to compose myself, gripping the report tightly in my arms, before I knocked on the door. Jack opened it almost immediately and beckoned me in.
“Come in, Lily. Thank you for doing this.”
The first thing I noticed was how Jack looked. I had only seen him in a business suit before but he wore jeans and a tight white t-shirt which emphasised his muscular chest. Of course, I hadn’t expected him to look exactly like he did in the office, but it did give me a shock.
“Not a problem - here is the report,” I said as I passed it to him.
“Take a seat,” Jack gestured to a sofa in the centre of the room. “I’ll have a look through now.”
I sat on the black leather sofa and looked around the flat. As I had thought, it was larger than any house I had been to. The sofa and two matching chairs faced a large television. From where I sat, I could see separate dining and kitchen areas. One wall had three doors which presumably led to bedrooms. The décor was sparse and there was nothing that you could describe as clutter in the whole flat. Apart from one simple clock, there was nothing breaking the pure whiteness of the walls and most of the furniture was black or wooden to match the floor. My attention was drawn to the exterior wall which was made of glass giving a fantastic view over the city. I guessed that it would be hard to find artwork or other decoration which could compete with that.
Jack had taken a seat on one of the chairs and was leafing through the report carefully. I couldn’t think of anything to say as I continued to look around.
“What do you think?” Jack turned to me having seen my interest.
“The view is amazing,” I replied.
“It certainly is,” said Jack. “Why don’t you have a closer look?”
Accepting Jack’s invitation, I got up and walked to the window. There were a couple of other tall buildings across the road which meant that the view was not entirely clear but I could still see for miles. Looking down, I felt slightly unsteady as I became very conscious of the height.
I hadn’t noticed Jack get up, but suddenly he was standing right next to me giving me a shock. I stepped away, in surprise.
“No need to be afraid,” he said, smiling at my momentary embarrassment. “Not all the stories about me are true.”
I immediately thought back to what Katie had told me the previous evening and I could feel my cheeks flush giving away my thoughts.
“I can see that Katie told you.”
I stood there unable to think of anything to say. Jack seemed relaxed and confident which only increased my discomfort.
After an uncomfortable silence which seemed to last forever, Jack continued. “Follow me. I want to show you something.”
He started walking back towards the sofa. I followed behind him, awkwardly trying to match his large strides with my shorter legs. He reached under the sofa cushion and pulled out a large brown envelope.
“Katie rang me last night and told me that she had thought you might be interested in what I do. If you are interested in more details, open t
his envelope. If not, throw it away on the way back to the office and we will never speak of this again.” Jack held out the envelope towards me and I took it without thinking, suddenly entirely off guard. “Now go back.” Jack gestured towards the door.
As I clutched the envelope, I felt like my cheeks were burning up. Jack was still looking straight at me and I felt my eyes drawn to his. He wasn’t the most handsome man I had ever seen but something about the way he held himself seemed to make it impossible for my attention to be drawn anywhere else.
“Quickly!” said Jack, impatiently breaking my thoughts. I turned and half-ran towards the door.
“Oh. The report was fine, by the way,” he said in a more normal voice as I opened the door and gratefully left the flat. I didn’t look back but it sounded like he was amused. As the door closed behind me I grabbed the wall for support as I caught my breath. I must have looked like such a fool running out of there like that but what else was I meant to do. This was not a normal situation to be in.
My head was spinning as I caught the elevator and started the walk back to work. The envelope remained unopened. I was curious as to what was inside, but also nervous. Did Jack say that Katie had phoned him to tell him that I was interested? Why would she do that? More to the point, was she right that I was interested? Did Jack now want me to join him in his kinky games? Would it be easier just to throw the envelope away and forget about it?
I was almost back to work when I made my decision. I had to see whatever was in the envelope, even if only to satisfy my curiosity. I wasn’t committing myself to any more than that. Having resolved to do this, I quickly tore open the envelope and found a single piece of paper inside.
The only words on the paper were “If you want to find out more, turn up at the flat at nine o’clock tonight. Don’t be afraid or embarrassed, it will be fun for both of us.” I recognised Jack’s handwriting immediately. Far from satisfying my curiosity, this just raised more questions.
