Eye Candy and Achy Hearts

Noelle stood behind me, his arms wrapped around me. He’d finished the work on his dissertation. He now had secured an internship with the promise of a job with an international company of some renown. I’d quit the tax firm and found a position with a financial management company. It was work that challenged me. We’d both come a long way since our first “RL” encounter. These days we didn’t spent a lot of time online. I’d found a nurse-cum-housekeeper-cum-companion for my mother, though I checked on her regularly. We spent Christmas with her. Noelle learned an appreciation for The Sound of Music. My mother liked Noelle.

Happiness, true happiness, had come to me late in life, and it might not be forever, but I finally found the courage to reach out and grab it. And today, feeling Noelle’s arms wrapped around me, I felt anything was possible.

He kissed the side of my neck. “Go open the candy box.”

He piqued my curiosity. I went over, opened the lid, and found a jewelry box inside.

Noelle came up next to me. “Open it,” he said, excitement tingeing his voice.

I gasped when I saw what was inside. A gold band set with diamonds.

“Read what’s engraved inside,” he urged impatiently.

I reached inside my pocket to pull out my glasses and stuffed them on my face. Then I looked at the inside of the gold band. EyeCandy loves AchyHeart. Except the “loves” was in the form of an image of a heart.

He took the ring from me and slipped it onto my left ring finger. “I hope it’s okay.”

I glanced down at the ring, then back up at him, standing there in those sexy little red satin panties. “It’s perfect and so are you.”

“I love you, AchyHeart. And now we’re engaged, okay?” he asked.

“But I’m not an achy heart anymore,” I pointed out. “Are you sure about this?”

He grinned. Then he wiggled his hips. “I’m still your favorite eye candy, right? I’m very sure.”

I reached up and cupped his face, drawing him closer. “I love you, Noelle. I love you.”

I pulled him up onto the bed beside me. We crushed the candy box with the chocolates beneath us.

My heart had never been so full. And maybe there was just a little bit of ache because it was filled to the brim with loving EyeCandy2933. A man who had changed my life forever and given me the courage to love completely.
