Done a Runner (Wanted Men of Bison Bluffs Book 1) Page 22

by Cynthia Knoble

“Yes, I’m staying and yes, it’ll be for the long haul. Nothing would make me happier, and you’re damn right I want to be your wife someday. Because I love you.”

He smiled that lop-sided smile she adored.

“And you love me,” she added.

Another smile. Other women might be content with that response but, as he’d just pointed out, she wasn’t just any woman.

  “Say it.”

  “Zoë—” he cautioned.

  “Say it,” she demanded.

“I love you,” he said, and then winced.

She laughed. “Did that hurt to say aloud?”

  “A little,” he admitted.

“Well, suck it up, cowboy, because I expect to hear it a lot.”

  “I expect you would.”

  “Say it.”

  “Zoë, that’s enough for now.”

  “Say it,” she insisted.

  “I love you.”

He shook his head, but his smile was back. Sure, he was occasionally insufferable, but he was hers, every infuriating part of him and especially the wondrous, loving, generous parts of him. He was hers, her very own cowboy, and for the first time ever, she felt she was where she truly belonged. Finally, she was home. She was done running.

  THE END
