Fury (New Adult Romance) - #1.5 Fierce Series Page 22

by Clarissa Wild

She’ll stay and lie in bed with me, and we’ll fall asleep together. I’ve never actually ‘slept’ with someone else before. It feels nice to have her this close to me, to smell her hair as she cuddles up against me. I need to know if she feels the same.

“Do you think you could stick with me a little longer? I don’t want you to just be with me for the sex. I want you to stay for me,” I say. I’m pouring every inch of my heart into this question.

“I’m not just in it for the sex,” she says, smiling.

She turns around and I drag her closer, pressing her back against my chest. I want to feel her heartbeat through the night.

“But you’d better not be abstinent until marriage.”

I chuckle at her comment. Still obnoxious, but I love it. I like her annoying parts. They’re cute.

And no, I’m not going to wait forever either. My cock is yearning for some action, and it’s going to be rough and hard, just the way I like it. I’ll make her mine completely.

“You can bet on it. I’m going to claim you soon,” I say.

She giggles like the little devil she is, and rubs her ass against my cock, stirring it awake again. I try not to think about it, and force away the thoughts of having her perky ass pushed up against me. Burying my head in her hair, I think about all the times she made me smile, laugh, forget, and all the times she was there to help me get through tough moments. I don’t want to let them go. Not anymore. It’s too late for that.

Fuck the rules, the gang, and everyone who gets in the way of me reaching my goal: both getting my brother back and keeping Leafy in my life.

And with that final thought I doze off into a deep and comfortable sleep with my Leafy right beside me, wriggled firmly under my arms.

  Chapter 24

  Following Leads

I’m only partially awake when Leafy’s scream wakes me up completely.

“Dude … Oh, shit.” I think it’s Jaret’s voice, but I’m not sure.

I groan, rubbing the grit from my eyes. “Huh? What’s happening?”

“Sorry, bro, I didn’t know you brought her back here,” Jaret says. His eyebrows rise like he’s seeing a naked chick. “Hope you had fun last night.”

Shit. Now he pulled me from that delicious dream I had about banging Leafy. “What are you doing here?” I growl.

“It’s my room, too, remember? Glad I wasn’t around to witness this last night. Had some fun myself, too! Crazy chick, though …” Jaret says. I can hear him stomp into the room, and only then do I realize I’m lying in bed with Leafy. I hope she’s covered herself up.

“Dude, get out. Give us some privacy for fuck’s sake,” I grunt, scraping my throat.

“Sorry, bud, can’t. It’s important. I wouldn’t have come otherwise, trust me.”

Oh … What now? What could be so important that he has to burst into the room like that when he sees a naked chick in my bed?

I rise up to lean on my elbows. “What?”

From the corner of my eye I see Leafy stumbling to grab her dress. Good. At least she’s putting something on. I don’t want Jaret to see her. She’s mine, and only I can see her naked. I’d pull his eyes out if I caught him watching her.

“I think I’m after the right guy. You know. The boss of Alpha Psi. I think I know who he is.”

My eyes are wide open. Immediately, I’m awake. I throw the blanket off me. “What? Are you serious?”

“Alpha Psi? Is that a frat house?” Leafy asks, but I’m too busy focusing on what Jaret’s saying right now. If he’s really sure about this, then that means we should go after this right now. I need to know who it is so I can put an end to this gang and get my brother back today.

Just the thought of it brings me to life.

“Yeah, that’s why I need you to come with me right now. There’s going to be another party tonight, and he’ll be there. If you wanna catch him, now’s the time. We have to prepare some kind of plan.”

“Fuck,” I say, and I jump out of bed. I can’t believe he found out who it is. Something about this doesn’t feel right, it’s too quick, but I have to follow every lead I get.

“What the hell are you guys talking about?” Leafy says.

“You go get dressed first. I’ll wait for you downstairs so we can get going. They’re expecting us to do some work, too, today, so we really need the extra time,” Jaret tells me.

“Work? You mean selling drugs and punching people in the face again?” Leafy says, frowning. “It’s a freaking frat house behind all this?” I don’t have time for her questions. This is important.

“All right, see you in a minute or so,” I tell Jaret as he leaves the room.

  “Stop ignoring me!”

I turn around toward her. “I’m not, this is just way too important. And yes, it’s a frat house.”

She puts a foot forward and plants a finger on my chest. “More important than telling me what the hell is going on?”

I can’t tell her what’s going on, that’s the problem. If I do that, this whole operation might blow. I need to do this with minimal risk, and I don’t want to involve her more than I already have.

  “You should go,” I say.

“What? No! Not until you tell me,” she says. “So you’re in a frat house? God …” She slaps a hand in front of her mouth, shaking her head. “Why do you want to go look for ‘the boss’?”

Jesus, this needs to stay under the radar. I place a finger on top of my lips. “Don’t be so loud.”

  “Why? Does it matter?”

“Because … it’s a freaking illegal frat house. We sell drugs, for crying out loud. Nobody can know about this. And yes, we’re looking for the boss, but first we gotta find out who the courier is.”

She scowls. “The courier? What the hell is that?”

Like I can explain that without ruining the entire operation. “The one who brings the drugs from the boss to the top distributors. Those are the people I get my stash from.” I brush my hair aside, trying to get a grip on the situation. I really have no time for this right now. “I think I’ve answered enough questions now.”

“Oh, c’mon, you’ve got to give me more than that,” she huffs.

“I can’t. You don’t know how dangerous that is.”

“Why? Are you still too chicken to trust me?”

I hate it when she says things like that. I need to get it through to her that I’m trying to protect her. I grab her chin softly. “I care about you. I’m afraid you’ll get hurt. That’s why I don’t tell you. It’s better if you stay out of this.”

She pushes my hand away, and I see it as a sign that I’m done here. Going after the leader is more important right now. This’ll have to wait. I go into the bathroom so I can take a shower and dress quickly before going downstairs.

Of course, it’s no surprise Leafy follows me. “I don’t care if it’s dangerous. I. Want. To. Know.”

I try to close the door, but she jams her foot inside. “You’re not getting out of this, mister.”

Persistent. That’s for sure. It’s one of the things I both hate and like about her. I guess I really fell for her quirks. “I love it when you put your foot down like that.” I lean in and peck her on the forehead. “But I’m going to take a shower now, and then I’m leaving.”

“I’m going with you,” she snaps, tapping her foot.

I roll my eyes and laugh. “Fine. Suit yourself.”

If she doesn’t want to leave the bathroom, I’ll just shower right in front of her. I don’t care if she sees me naked. She can stare all she wants, and I know she will. It won’t make a difference. I’ll still be out of here in a matter of minutes.

As I start showering, I catch a glimpse of her cherry-pink lips and blue eyes skimming my body. “You’re a dirty girl, you know that? Peeping on naked guys.”

“I am not. Trust me, I’m not standing here for that reason. I’m not even looking at you,” she insists, but I can hear she’s lying.

I bet you were. And I also bet you liked what you saw.”

She takes in a deep breath and lets out a long, dragged-out sigh. Guess I was right.

As I finish showering, I grab a towel and turn around to face her. Her eyes are closed, which is too bad, because I’m completely naked right now and right in front of her face. I dry myself and wrap the towel around my waist. “You can open your eyes now. It’s safe.”

She scowls, and I grin. “You’ll get to see me eventually. I can’t wait to see the look on your face then.”

“Whatever,” she mutters. “I’m still not letting you out of my sight. I don’t like what you’re scheming one bit.”

“Oh, I didn’t expect you to. Come to the party with me then,” I say, licking my lips.

Her eyes widen. “What? You want to take me with you?”

“Well, you just said I can’t stop you, so I’d rather take you with me then. You’re safer with me than anywhere else.”

It’s not just that, but also the fact that she always follows me around, and I know she’d follow me to the party as well if I left her here. She’d be there no matter what. I know her. So it’s safer to just bring her myself so I can keep an eye on her.

“But if you don’t want to, you can always just stay here, study a bit, you know, go about your normal life like you always do,” I say, pecking her on the cheek.

I walk past her to grab a pair of pants and some boxer briefs.

“Fine, but if you don’t, I swear to God I’ll―”

“Yeah, I know, you’ll kill me,” I say, laughing. “Don’t worry. I’ll be there.”

I put on a brown shirt and some aftershave. After I’m done, I get back to my girl and put my hand on her arm, trying to make her feel secure. “I’ll see you tonight, okay?” I kiss her on the lips, and it’s just as sweet as I remembered. I love kissing her. I’d love to do this all day, but unfortunately I have other things that are more pressing. Besides, if we keep this up, I’ll be walking around campus with a permanent boner.

So I stop kissing her and smile one last time before walking out of the room.

I find Jaret waiting outside the dorm. “Let’s get to my car,” he says.

“Wait,” I say, and I grab his arm.

“It’s not safe to talk about this in the open.”

I frown, still wanting answers. I don’t know how he discovered who the leader is and for some reason I don’t trust it. It feels too good to be true.

“I told him I wanted to ask him some more questions, and he said he’d be waiting at the club.”

“You sure about this?” I ask him while we get into the car.

“Yeah.” We step inside, and as he closes the door he says, “Why wouldn’t I be? I talked to a few distributors the other night at the party, and one of them led me to believe he knew the leader.”

  “How?”

“He said one of those hookers at the club, Miranda, was the courier.”

As we drive off to the club, Jaret adds, “I think it’s the guard at the door. Mike.”

  ♥♥♥

When we arrive at the club house, it’s eerily quiet. The guard isn’t at the door as he usually is. There’s no music and I can only hear a couple of voices in the back. All of this is making my skin crawl. It just doesn’t feel right, but I still need to follow every lead I get for the sake of my brother.

“In here,” Jaret says, and he pulls me into a room close to the entrance. There’s a man standing with his back toward us, arranging stacks of drugs and money on the table. He puts out his cigarette in the ashtray as Jaret closes the door behind us.

“Hey,” Jaret says, clearing his throat.

“This the one you talked with?” I mouth to Jaret.

He nods. “He told me about the hooker.”

“What do you want?” the guy says with a hoarse voice.

“You know that talk we had the other night at the party?” Jaret says, casually walking inside.

“Yeah, what about it,” the guy says as he creates a neat line of coke on the table.

“I brought my bud, you know, the one I was talking about. He’s really itching to get higher up in the ranks, and we were wondering if you could introduce us to the leader.”

The guy doesn’t respond. Instead, he leans forward and snorts up the coke. My blood is boiling just looking at him. I hate seeing people use that crap.

“You said that hooker at the club, Miranda, was the courier, right? And she’s Mike’s chick.”

The guy bursts out into laughter. “Right.”

I swallow. This is not good. This is seriously not good. I don’t know what Jaret has been doing, but this guy is not telling us everything he knows.

  “So it’s true then?”

Suddenly the door bursts open behind us. Wes is behind us, his fists balled, his look vicious. Shit.

“I heard you asked about finding the leader?” he says, closing in on us.

I glance at Jaret, and with our eyes we assure each other it’s going to be okay. We got caught, but we have to play it cool. We can talk our way out of this. We have to.

“They’ve been bugging me quite a bit,” the guy says, and he chuckles, walking past us.

“And what did you tell them?” Wes asks as the guy stands behind him.

“Oh, just that Mike’s chick was the courier.”

Wes bursts out into laughter, shaking his head. “Oh, you and your jokes.”

  “What? They asked for it.”

Wes slaps him on the shoulder. “Sorry, guys, but he was messing with you,” he tells us, his eyes narrowing. “You weren’t really looking for the leader, now, were you?”

  “Well, uh …” Jaret stammers.

“We want to become distributors too,” I interject.

Jaret swallows, taking in a sharp breath. We’re walking a thin line here.

  “Oh, is that so?”

“We only wanted to know who it was so we could ask him,” Jaret adds.

“Hmm …” Wes laughs again. “That’s cute. I hate to burst your bubble, but you’d need to be in service for a much longer time to be eligible for it.”

He steps closer as the other guy leaves the room. “You’d have sell a lot of drugs and be in a lot of fights for us to trust you enough to gain ranks,” he says, stopping right in front of me. “I’m not sure you’d be up for the task, but I realize I should give rookies a chance. So, you can start today.” He places his hand on my shoulder. “See that stash over there?” He signals at the table with the drugs. “If you can sell all of it before the day is over, I might consider talking you up. Of course, that’s only because you’d never betray Alpha Psi,” he says, looking me straight in the eye with a stone-cold face. “You’ll be expected at the party tonight. There will be a lot of guests who want some drugs, and you’ll be selling to them.”

With a wink, he turns around and walks toward the exit. “Oh, and bring your chick with you. I know she’d like to party with us. I’ll be happy to show her around a little.” And then he walks out.

Jaret wipes the sweat off his forehead, and I brush my fingers through my hair.

“Fuck!” I mouth, trying to stay quiet, because I know they can hear us.

“Um, yeah, let’s grab the drugs and go. Don’t want to make them wait,” Jaret says, lowering his head to show me he’s serious. I nod in silence, knowing we have to keep quiet in here. But damn, when we get to the car, we’re gonna have to talk.

We stuff the drugs in our backpacks and jog out the building. Once we get into the car, I throw the drugs to the back and turn back around. “What the hell! I thought you knew who it was!”

“Yes! I thought he was being honest with me. He looked the part the other night.”

“Yeah, well, doesn’t look like it,” I say, running my fingers over my temples.

“Sorry, man, I didn’t know he’d tell Wes about this. I thought I could trust him.”

“You can’t trust anyone! Not anyone, do you hear me?” I say.r />
“Yes, I get it, man,” he says, holding up his hands. “I’m in this shit as deep as you are.”

I sigh. “Look, sorry, but this is important, all right?”

“I know … you want to get your brother out. I get it. And I’d like that too.”

I sniff, trying to control my emotions, but they’re too much. “Fuck!” I slam my fists on the dashboard.

  “We still have a chance.”

“How? Wes just threatened me, again! Now I have no choice but to bring Leafy to this party.”

“I know, but I can still talk to another distributor.”

I shake my head. “Like talking’s going to do any good.”

“I don’t know what else to do. I promised you I’d help you, but I can’t force them to show us who the courier or the leader is.”

“We can force them,” I say, looking out the window to see if anyone’s listening. “I’ll make them tell us.”

Jaret’s eyes widen. “You wanna fight them?”

“If I have to,” I snap.

  “You know they’ll find out.”

“I don’t care! I need to know who it is, and I won’t stop until I know.”

  “All right, all right.”

“You’ll help me, right?” I say, looking him in the eye.

He lets out a deep breath. “I’ll do my best. I know another distributor who’s a little reluctant, but much easier to manipulate. I think he’s our best bet.”

“Okay. Then we’ll make it our mission to have him tell us who the courier or the leader is. Either is good. But we’ll take the answer with force if we have to.”

Jaret glances at me from the corner of his eye, a steady breath flowing through his mouth. I hope he’s with me. I hope he’ll stick with me through all this. If he fails me now … and the gang realizes what we’re up to … I’m dead.

  ♥♥♥

We spent the rest of the day selling drugs to people, trying to get rid of the stash we took with us from the club. I’m glad when more than half of it is gone by the time I need to get back to the dorm to pick up Leafy. I find her in the hallway, staring at Scarlet’s door.
