Consequence (Reckless Killers Book 2) Page 16

She fell silent, her eyes giving me a long once-over. I could see her waging a silent war with herself as she bit her lip and narrowed her eyes, a stress line appearing on her forehead. She let out a sigh and put her hands out in what seemed like a gesture of surrender.

"What if I do go back with you? What would that look like?" she asked

"It would look like me being in love with you. And Sofia, too, in case that wasn't already clear by the way she practically assaulted you when we got here." I paused, trying to gather my thoughts. "I don't know about the rest of it, to be honest with you, Brooke. I think there are a lot of things we'll still have to figure out. But right now, I'm only worried about taking that first step—and that's getting you to come back with us."

"Because you love me?" she asked, like she still needed to hear it again.

"Because I love you, Brooke Harris."

"Well, I love you too, you stupid asshole." She thumped me square in the chest with her fist. "Don't you ever tell me to leave you again. Do you hear me?"

I gathered her back into my arms. "I wouldn't fucking dream of it," I vowed. And I absolutely meant that. There wasn't anything in the world that could make me stupid enough to let go of her twice.

After a few more reassurances from her that Malik had been nothing but professional—because I just needed to be absolutely sure—we walked hand-in-hand back to the others. Tomas and Malik were deep in conversation, but both turned to grin with obvious relief when they saw us walking back together. They couldn't feel half as relieved as I did though. I was already imagining a million ways I would have to make it up to Brooke for all the bullshit I put us through. I never should have sent her away in the first place, that was abundantly clear now.

Sofia stepped forward, her eyes so full of hope. "Are you coming home with us?" she asked, wringing her hands together.

"Yeah, sweetheart, I'm coming home," Brooke answered.

  Brooke

The industrial look had seemed like a really good idea up until the moment I felt the distinct shape of individual bricks digging into my bare back. I opened my mouth to complain about it but Jairo thrust into me at the exact same moment, so the words came out as a moan instead.

I threw my head back, ignoring the pain as my head hit the wall because I was already too swept away by the feeling of orgasmic bliss. Jairo never slowed as I cried out his name, my heels digging into his back as kept pumping into me as if his life depended on it. We weren't usually so hurried during sex, but we didn't have much time until everyone would be showing up for Sofia's surprise birthday party.

My sister had taken her shopping for a new birthday outfit while Jairo and I set up, but it turned out we had more than enough time to work a quickie in there, too. We actually weren't so great at keeping our hands off each other, even after more than a year together.

As my orgasm subsided, Jairo was right behind me. He groaned as he came, burying himself to the hilt inside of me as he finished. I held onto him for as long as I comfortably could as we both tried to catch our breath. Sex against the wall had turned out to be more of a workout than I remembered.

Being six months pregnant might have also had something to do with that.

"I can't believe it took us this long to christen that wall," Jairo said while I was still panting.

"That's because... that was... a terrible... idea," I managed to get out between alternating huffs and giggles.

I turned so he could see the bruises I knew were already forming on my back. The spots were already sore, but not unbearable. I definitely wouldn't be so quick to suggest wall sex in the living room again. In the old house, all the walls were fair game. In the new place, not so much.

We'd made the move a few months after I joined Jairo and Sofia back at the house. One of the demands I made early on was that Sofia needed to be in a real school, so she could make friends with other kids and grow up as normal as possible. The school close to the house his brother had built wasn't really safe enough or advanced enough for Sofia, so we'd made a choice.

We moved a couple hours away to a city with a private school that met all of Sofia's needs and ours—they had more security staff employed there then even Jairo did. A couple of the kids even had famous parents, which Sofia found particularly awe-worthy. Now, we stayed in the new house during the school year, but had kept the old house to stay during the summers.

It was a beautiful home, and one day we would be able to hand over to Sofia the house her parents built.

"Shit, I'm sorry," he said, rubbing my lower back gently for me as he examined my minor injuries. I moaned from how good his touch felt. Pregnancy hormones were a real bitch.

His hands left my skin so quick it was like he'd been burned. "No. Nuh-uh. If you start moaning like that we're not going to be decent when people start showing up."

I threw my head back, this time to laugh—and with the added benefit of not banging my head against the wall that time. We did get a little carried away sometimes, which was probably how I ended up knocked up well before either of us actually planned for it to happen.

I turned to throw my arms around Jairo and kissed him square on the lips. "Do you think we'll ever get tired of each other?" I asked.

He shook his head. "Not a chance in hell."
