“If you’re into bikes, I’m restoring a classic at the moment,” Axel said. “I think I’d look great in a set of leathers.”

“It takes more than leathers to make a biker,” Rhett muttered.

I shook my head. It wasn’t about the bikes or the leathers, although they were kind of sexy. I discreetly studied both men as they continued to eat and banter with Granny Dottie. They had their charms but also had things that made me realize it wouldn’t be a good idea to date either of them. I had to keep reminding myself that I wasn’t looking for a date. And I wasn’t looking for a date with any bad boys.

Still, they were tempting. If I could figure out how to squash Frank for a few weeks and really get to know them both, things could be different. I could make a decision and find a guy who would put up with me and my annoying demon.

Wiggles raced over to the blanket. He snatched a sandwich out of Axel’s hand and gave him a dirty look before bounding away again.

Axel shook his head. “I’m telling you that dog does not like me.”

“He’s got good taste,” Rhett said.

The ground beneath us rumbled. Everyone was instantly alert.

“That felt like a new crack in the prison.” Mom was on her feet, her hands already sparking with magic.

Granny Dottie stood. “Let’s see what the problem is. Don’t worry everyone. You carry on with the picnic. We’ve got a little demon problem to deal with. We’ll be back in time for cake.” Defying her years, she sprinted away with Mom, magic crackling off both of them as they hunted for the crack and the sneaky demon trying to break out.

I reclined back on the blanket, knowing Mom and Granny Dottie would keep us safe. Aurora sat next to me on the grass, and we watched our incredible family as they hunted for demons and ensured the rest of the world remained safe.

“Our family is awesome,” Aurora said.

I gave her hand a quick squeeze. She was right. I might be leaving soon, but I had everything to come back for.
