‘What’s the matter, Lizzie? Aren’t you up for it?’
Lizzie shrugged. ‘Maybe. But the more I think about it the less I fancy another run in with Celandine.’
‘Forget her. She’s gone.’
‘If you say so, Ritchie, if you say so.’ Lizzie did not look convinced. ‘Anyway, we’ve got no guarantee that Ezra will even sort out another visit. He wasn’t keen on the idea and I reckon when he gets back to Elfhame he’ll think better of it and then keep finding excuses not to bring Alice and Will. As he said, he’s a busy man.’
‘What? So you don’t think he’ll do it?’
Lizzie pulled a face. ‘Who can say? I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.’
She turned and began to walk away.
‘Yeah, but you’ll still think about how we can help Will and Alice and the rest of the kids, won’t you?’
Lizzie didn’t answer. Ritchie glared at her retreating back then ran up behind her and gave her shoulder a shove. ‘Oi, I said …’
Lizzie spun on her heel. She was grinning from ear to ear. ‘Duh! ‘I’m already thinking about it, Dummy. I mean Alice and Will would be in major league trouble if they had to leave the thinking to you.’ She stuck her tongue out at him then ran off. Ritchie bunched his fists, yelled at her and took off in hot pursuit.
Ritchie’s blood curdling threats and Lizzie’s hoots of laughter were soon swallowed up and they left behind a wood filled with nothing more than silence - and shadows.

Spook Squad – Adventures Too Scary For Boys (Ransom Publishing)
The Spook Squad are Roxy, Leena, Nita, Emma and (whether they want him or not) Rattle the poltergeist. The four girls are as bright and sparky as a fire in a fireworks factory. And they have a job to do: to protect humans from ghouls, ghosts, long-legged beasties and things that go bump in the night.
So, on dark and stormy nights, when the vampires are being a pain in the neck and hairy horrors are on the prowl, the Spook Squad goes into action.
The Alien Detective Agency (Badger Publishing)
Jack Swift, TV's Sci-Fi Spy Guy, had no idea that his day job as an actor would send him soaring through the galaxy in a real spaceship. However, his adventures really take off when he meets Wanda Darkstar, the Galactic Union’s Alien Welfare Officer for Earth. Together they set up their inter-galactic private detective agency, "Swift and Dark" to save the Earth from the dastardly plots of assorted evil aliens. It sounds like fun but, wherever they go, they always end up in big trouble!
The Mystery Mob (Rising Stars)
A wild and wacky group of boys have enormous fun investigating strange goings-on in a series of hair-raising adventures.
Tribe (Barrington Stoke)
Tribe are six shape-shifting superheroes - each able to assume a different animal form, and all united in their mission to save the planet from those who threaten to destroy it. Fast-paced plots feature danger at every turn, villains with maniacal masterplans, and knockout punchlines. Tribe are eco-warriors, intent on saving the world, one joke at a time.
The You Can Do It Series (Hodder Children’s Books)
All the essentials of spelling, grammar and punctuation covered thoroughly in a light-hearted and accessible style. The books act as a genuinely useful tool for children who want or need to improve their English and grasp areas that they have perhaps not understood at school or missed out on. Each page covers a key point, shows lots of examples to demonstrate correct usage, and has a handy summary at the bottom of the page. Comic-strip style illustrations and the group of characters that make up the Odd Mob make learning fun and easy, with puns, jokes and cartoons.
