She waved her hand through the air. “All of this is irrelevant. How did you find this place? Who told you to look here?”
Jeremiah hesitated, and Marie jumped on it like a shark. “You received your information from somewhere, tell me who.”
“We were told this was where to find Alexander.”
Marie blinked, looking disturbed. “You were given these coordinates? But why...?”
“Ah, my baby brother, here to rescue me from the utter mundanity of my current existence.”
I swiveled around to see Lucas beaming at us, looking quite at home with the whole situation. The confusion on Jeremiah’s face quickly melted to irritation as Lucas all but skipped into the main room. He stopped next to Marie and, ignoring her completely, opened his arms wide. “Welcome to hell!”
The French agent pursed her lips. “You’re not supposed to be walking around, Loki.”
“And this,” Lucas stated with a tight smile, “is what I have to put up with every minute of every day. Seriously, gorgeous location – sucky roommates. It’s like the vaca-tion home I never wanted.” He plopped down on the couch next to Jeremiah and put an arm around his brother’s shoulders.
“Please, tell me you brought takeout.”
The cuffs were still on us both, which was probably a good thing for Lucas as Jeremiah looked ready to throttle his sibling. That didn’t mean the man wasn’t up for stirring the pot a bit. Grinning like a loon, he plopped down right between us, not caring that there wasn’t room. He threw arms around us both, smiling at us in turn. “The whole family, back together again. Almost brings a tear to my eye.”
Something about his words made goose-bumps break out over my flesh. “Jeremiah,”
I murmured, “do you remember what you said before about hitting two birds with one stone?”
All heads swiveled to look at me, including Marie’s. I looked at them, then back at Jeremiah. “We’re all right here, in the exact same place, based on information that is supposedly from Alexander himself...”
I saw comprehension dawn first on Marie’s face. The logic that my brain didn’t want to grasp mobilized the agent. She began barking orders, and the group around us started tearing down their various setups.
“Get their handcuffs off!”
A black agent threw a set of keys to Lucas, who quickly unlocked his brother’s cuffs, then my own. Jeremiah surged to his feet, as did Lucas who pulled me up. “We need to get out of here now.”
Then my world exploded.
