“I will call Nina’s family and let them know I’ve already married my son off. I’m sure they will be relieved to not have to be stuck with you,” my mother said casting me a pointed look then flashing Em a wink.
I said nothing. I just shook my head and laughed. It was a little weird to have my parents cracking jokes just like the guys would do but I was getting used to it. It made me realize how much I had missed while being away on the road. I made a promise to myself to never let my career interfere with my relationship with my family again, especially my parents. I had taken their time in my life for granted.
“Let’s call it a night, these babies are getting sleepy,” Ivan said as he stood up with a sleeping Karina in his arms.
Everyone gradually agreed. A good thirty minutes were spent giving hugs goodbye and making plans to visit one another soon. As agreed Emily and I followed everyone home to the house we shared on the other side of town.
“Holy shit, that’s where we live?” Emily shouted as she took in the large contemporary house we called home.
“Yeah, baby, that’s home.” I pulled her into my arms and gave her a kiss. “I fucking love you,” I whispered across her lips.
“I love you too,” She whispered back.
