“I fucked her,” Blake confirmed. “I fucked her in the ass, and I thought of the guy I wanted the entire time.”

Abe felt all the breath rush out of his lungs, and he struggled to bring in air.

“That’s…that sounds…” Jesus, what was it? His mind raced, but despite that he was completely out of words. Or coherent thoughts, really.

“Disgusting? Abnormal? Sick?” Blake’s tone dared him to agree, but did he really think Abe would? When had Abe ever said anything like that?

Abe found his voice. “Actually, I was going to say that it sounds pretty shitty for the girl. And for you, to be honest.”

Blake’s eyebrows raised. Score one for Abe. “Yeah, it kind of was. Every time.”

“So, why did you do it?”

Blake shrugged. “The guy I wanted wasn’t available.”

He wasn’t meeting Abe’s eyes. That, combined with something about Blake’s voice made him think… but it couldn’t be. Could it?

Then Blake looked directly at him, and awareness passed between them. Confirmation.

“So you see why I have to go,” Blake said.

Abe opened his mouth, then closed it. He wanted to say that Blake should stay, that they’d find some solution that worked for everyone, that this didn’t have to change anything. All of those things were untrue.

As much as Blake was his friend, and as much as Abe wanted him to stay, Blake had to do what was right for him. It wasn’t as if Abe could stick around near Paris if she were with some other guy. Or girl. Well, with some other girl and not him, that is.

Blake leaned in, then stopped. Abe didn’t give a shit, though, and he pulled Blake in for a hug. “Fuck you,” Abe said, because it was the easiest and it said everything.

“Back atcha,” Blake said, before disappearing into the crowd.

With his steps heavier now, Abe searched for Paris and found her next to her mother.

“You! You’re the one from the store. The night she didn’t come home.” Paris’ mother’s tone left no doubt that she knew where Paris had stayed.

Her lips pursed. Apparently it was his turn to talk. Shit. Smile. “Yes, that was me. It’s great to finally meet you. Properly, that is.”

She narrowed her eyes and then turned on Paris, thank God. “Where is Addison?”

  “I don’t know.”

“I’m worried about her. You know.” Her mother whispered the last at Paris.

“Geez, Mom. She’s fine. She knew she wasn’t going to get a medal. You’re the one making this a big problem.”

Her mother’s nostrils flared. “Fine. What were you doing anyway, gone so long?”

“Um, I’ll go find Addie right now.” Paris grabbed his hand and pulled him away from her mother. He could face a combat situation without a blink, but he had no defenses against that disapproving glare from Paris’ mother. Actually, it reminded him of Paris’ own stare downs, although he knew she wouldn’t appreciate him pointing that out.

“I’m going to check the bathroom,” Paris said. “You check the lobby. You do remember what she looks like, right?”

“Sure, I do. She looks like you except…”

  Paris turned back. “Except what?”

  Thinner. “Younger?”

Paris’ lips pressed together. Damn, still wrong.

“Like a little girl, young. Not in a good way.”

Her eyes narrowed. Yep, her mother. He opted for a plea. “Please take this shovel out of my hands before I dig myself any deeper.”

And then she did something fantastic. She smiled. So simple, but just that and Abe knew they fit together. And not just during the hot as hell sex.

He screwed up and she smacked him upside the head with just a look. And then they moved on. No, it wasn’t a fairy tale, but it was real.

Abe circled the lobby and met with Paris back at the bathrooms. She looked torn between annoyance and worry. “Damn it. Where could she have gone?”

“Don’t worry,” he said. “There’s a bunch of rooms in this place she could have gone into.”

His mind worked nice and slow: Addie missing, Addie bickering with Rafael, Rafael left early. Fuck.

He would have liked to keep it to himself, just for a minute, until he could come up with a plan or something, but he could never keep anything from Paris.

  “What?”

“Well.” Think of something, think of anything. “Rafael is missing, too.” Oh, you genius, Abe.

“What? Are you saying that they’re together?”

“I have no idea.” Honestly, he didn’t know for sure. But…probably, yes.

“But all they do is argue.”

Well… “All we do is argue.”

  “That’s not true!”

  Abe just looked at her.

“Okay,” she said. “So they like each other. That does not mean they would go off and…and do anything.”

He didn’t want her to worry, even though she was probably wrong. “Relax. Rafael is a good guy.”

“Oh, so he’s not going to touch her?”

Well, Addie was pretty hot. Not as hot as Paris, but still pretty hot, and he didn’t think any guy was that good.

When Abe didn’t answer, Paris said, “She’s only seventeen years old!”

  “Rafael is only twenty.”

Judging by her expression, it was not the right thing to say.

“I don’t even want to know why you know that. You and I are going to go find them,” she said. “And for your friend’s sake, you’d better hope that she has all her clothes on when we do.”

Paris stalked off, and Abe started after her. He wasn’t about to miss this for anything. Paris was in fine form. Rafael didn’t stand a chance.

Then again, Rafael was his buddy, who’d helped him out of scrapes more than once. As he trailed behind Paris, Abe pulled out his phone and texted his friend a single word. Hide.
