She nodded and drew a deep breath. “It was. The whole ordeal was terrible, but I don't want to wallow in it anymore. I don't have an explanation for why I lived and Kayla died, but it happened that way. I don't want to spend any more time looking backward at the past. I want to build a life with you. I want to look forward."
Slade noticed she hadn't finished telling him why there was bad blood between her and psychiatrists, but he let it go. There would be another time for her to share that part of her past. He was more interested in building a future with her than looking back at a past which neither of them could change.
He felt his admiration for her swell. She'd been through a hell of a lot. She still bore emotional scars, but she was tough. They'd get through it together.
"I'd like that too honey. I'd like us to have kids someday, and take vacations, and do all the normal things people do."
Slade felt the tension that rippled through her, and knew that something he'd said had struck a nerve, even before she sat up, pinning him with soulful brown eyes that were still damp with tears. “There is something else.” She bit her lip. “I didn't tell you when we got married because I didn't expect us to stay married and I didn't think it would matter."
She gnawed her lip, her eyes drifting down, away from him.
"What is it honey?” he asked. “I can tell it's bothering you."
"There is an—um—likelihood that I can't have children,” she said, her beautiful eyes shuttered as she looked down, avoiding his gaze.
He gently lifted her face and looked deep into her eyes, wanting her to see that what he was going to say was honest and not just a bunch of platitudes. “Kara, I love kids, and nothing would make me happier than to make them with you, but if you can't have them then we'll adopt. There are hundreds of thousands of kids in the world that need families."
He stroked her hair, loving the soft light that filled her eyes as she tipped her head so that she rested her cheek in his palm as she looked up at him.
"Right now, all I care about is you and us. Are we okay? I know I was hard on you, probably harder than I should have been given the circumstances."
Kara nestled against Slade's chest and wrapped her arms around him, loving him. That he had spanked her rather than leaving her to suffer alone in the pit of emotional despair that had closed in on her had intensified her trust in him.
She curled into him, wrapping her arms around him. “We are perfect. All last week I wanted to feel safe, secure, loved and I couldn't feel it because there was too much fear and too much sadness in the way. The spanking hurt, but it took away the worst of the bad feelings. You holding me and talking to me took away the rest.” She smiled up at him. “It was just like you said it would be."
"Ummmm,” he sighed. “And how did I say it would be?” he asked lifting her chin and kissing her mouth.
"You said it was something you would do to take care of me. I feel very taken care of,” she sighed.
"I always take care of what's mine,” Slade said, his eyes meeting hers. “Make no mistake about it honey, you are mine."
Epilogue
Slade turned the key in the lock and pushed the door open to find Kara kneeling, naked near the door. He smiled as his eyes swept over her, following the pronounced curve of her tummy. He loved her more now than he ever had.
He smiled down upon her, the thought that he was going to have to find a new way for her to demonstrate her submission rising in his mind. Now that she was in her sixth month of pregnancy it was getting too difficult for her to get down and back up again.
His feelings for her were as they had always been. He loved her. He derived pleasure from caring for her, from protecting her, cherishing her. He didn't need her to kneel naked at his feet to demonstrate her submission. She demonstrated her love and submission in a hundred other ways every day.
Still he knew that the ritual made her feel mastered and it made him feel masterful that she wanted to submit to him in such a pronounced way. He knew he would come up with another ritual to meet their needs for expressing his mastery and her submission. It would just be one that didn't require her kneeling.
"How was your day?” he asked helping her to her feet and kissing her before she had a chance to respond.
"It was good. I stopped by to see my mom and at the vet clinic to have lunch with some of my friends from there. We had lunch in the restaurant where you proposed.” She smiled up at him, her eyes sparkling. “It was nice to go back there ... to where it all started."
He smiled down at her loving her.
"Your mom called. She wants us to come over for dinner.” She smiled up at him, her eyes bright with mischief. “Dinner comes with strings though,” she paused. “She has a problem with the drain, she wants you to fix for her."
Slade rolled his eyes. “Going to my mom's would entail you getting dressed,” he sighed.
"I know, and I'd rather stay home, naked with you, but it will give us a chance to tell your mom about the babies."
Slade stopped dumfounded. He wasn't sure he'd heard her right. “What'd you say honey?"
She smiled broadly. “The doctor called today. You were right when you thought they were pointing out a lot of feet when they did the ultrasound.” She laughed. “He said we're having two babies. Both girls."
Joy shot through him. He picked her up and spun her around as he kissed her. “Everything is okay with my babies and their mama then?” he asked still holding her.
She nodded grinning up at him. “Everything is good all the way around. I couldn't be any better or any happier if I tried."

Temporally Yours & The Key By Richard Savage
Theirs was a love hampered by time...
There were never enough hours in the day. They were never in the same place long enough to spend much time together.
Patrick and Susan worked hard. They both had demanding careers that kept them at opposite ends of the globe for large amounts of time with only fleeting moments to be together. Yet the heat, the love, the friendship they shared was a connection neither wanted to ignore.
Susan loved Patrick. All she really wanted was more time with him.
Patrick loved Susan with every fibre of his being, yet he feared the boredom of giving up his high powered career for a less challenging one closer to home.
He often found himself contemplating the life he and Susan could share if they had all the time in the world to be together. Yet that dream dangled just out of reach—she had her career—he had his—until they happened upon a quaint and peculiarshop.
Was it possible that a chance visit to a mysterious shop and the cryptic words of an old jeweler could yield the solution he was looking for ... or would love demand a price more dear than either was willing to pay?
