  Chapter One

  Naomi

I watched Max running around the garden with his best friend Jimmy and smiled at his happy expression. When Jimmy’s mother had invited us for a BBQ it hadn’t initially been at the top of my to-do list, but once we were there I was glad we’d come.

Max and Jimmy were in the same class at school and they also only lived a few doors apart. They were practically inseparable. I loved seeing Max so happy and carefree and it was all the reward I needed after a particularly stressful week at work.

I loved my job as an interior designer and my business was going from strength to strength, but my latest client was really pushing my patience to the limit.

I was definitely overdue for some downtime. A glass of wine and some food. A seat in the sun and a few hours without worry or stress.

I didn’t really know anyone apart from Ellen, Jimmy’s mom, but that was okay. Everyone seemed really nice and to be honest, I was more interested in relaxing on a lounger with my drink, the smells from the BBQ tantalizing my taste buds.

My diet could wait for today, I decided.

Truth be told, I thought wryly, I was always starting diets but never getting very far with them. I like my food too much. If my thighs and my tummy were a little heavier than I’d have liked, well, who cared? I had no-one to impress.

I’d given up on dating for a while. Not that I didn’t want a man. I’d have loved to meet someone who actually treated me right. Someone who I could introduce to Max and we could even one day be a family, but it just hadn’t happened.

My friends told me I was too picky, but I didn’t think that was a bad thing. I had made a big enough mistake with Max’s dad, who barely saw his son since he had moved away, and had no intention of making another one.

I got up; ready to get some newly grilled food from the BBQ, when I noticed two men coming out of the house and into the garden, having obviously just arrived. One of them had a small boy with him; obviously another friend of Jimmy’s.

But it was his friend who caught my eye. He was tall, broad and muscled, as though he worked out every day, and he moved with that type of easy confidence that isn’t quite arrogance so much as a natural self-assurance. He had thick dark hair, startlingly blue eyes and full, sensual lips that were just begging to be kissed. In a light-colored summer shirt and khaki pants he looked good enough to eat, never mind the BBQ.

I licked my lips as I realized how dry my mouth had gotten. I was suddenly acutely aware of my thighs in my short sundress and wished I’d word something else... or at least done something with my hair.

I looked away as he looked over in my direction, feeling myself blush at being caught staring. But I felt his eyes stay on me and had to look back. He smiled, revealing a dimple in his chin, and blushing again I tore my eyes away and hurried over to the BBQ although I had suddenly lost my appetite.

I made small talk with Ellen’s husband who was serving while I fetched a plate for myself and one for Max, but my thoughts were on the man behind me and as I called Max and made my way back to my seat I forced myself not to look up. Of course I did, only to find he was no-where to be seen. I swallowed my disappointment.

He probably wouldn’t be interested in me anyway, I thought.

A man who looked like that would surely have a girlfriend already, if not a string of them. Probably all as perfect-looking as him.

I stood up, feeling flustered, and as Max ran off to play again I went inside to freshen up. I walked through the kitchen and was so pre-occupied trying to remember the way to the bathroom that I didn’t see the person coming the other way and walked right into them.

“I’m so sorry...” I said, and then my words trailed off as I looked up and saw it was the man from the garden that I’d bumped into.

I wouldn’t have thought it was possible, but up close he was even more handsome, his piercing blue eyes a contrast to his dark hair and tanned skin. And his body...this close he was even more chiseled than I had realized. I stepped back from him, feeling heat travel through my whole body.

“No, I’m sorry,” he said in a sexy drawl. Even his voice was hot. “I should have been looking where I was going.” He held his hand out to me. “I’m Scott, by the way. I’m friends with Connor’s dad Steve.”

I took his hand and felt a rush of electric go through me at his touch that seemed to set all of my nerve endings on fire and stop right in between my legs.

“I’m Naomi. My son Max goes to school with Jimmy,” I said, trying to make casual small talk without revealing the immediate effect he had on me. Again, I wished I had stopped to do something with my hair. My blonde curls are unruly at the best of times but today the heat was making them limp and so I had tossed them on top of my head and I had not bothered to wear any make-up either.

I went to drop his hand but he held on, turning my hand over and stroking my finger before letting it go.

“No wedding ring I see,” he said softly. I felt my cheeks flame. Was he hitting on me?

“I’m single,” I said, trying to keep my tone light even though my heart was thumping in my chest. “And you? I see you’re not wearing a ring either.”

  He shook his head.

“No. I haven’t met the right woman,” he said with a smile, looking me up and down with obvious approval in spite of what I thought was a disheveled appearance.

  He’s definitely hitting on me.

“And what would the right woman be like?” I asked, hardly aware of what I was saying. It had been a long time since I had flirted with anyone and I was more than a little rusty.

He looked me up and down slowly, his eyes lingering over my breasts and hips.

“Curvy, blonde...a tendency to not look where she’s going...”

I laughed at that even as my blush deepened and was about to reply when I heard Max behind me, calling me as he came running into the kitchen.

“Mom!” he said excitedly, “Come and see the den me and Jimmy have built.” He tugged at my hand, looking up at Scott curiously.

“I’d better go,” I said, “it’s been really nice meeting you.” I turned away but not before taking a last look. Honestly, I felt like a schoolgirl presented with the object of her biggest crush. I didn’t want to stop looking at him.

“You too,” he winked at me. Max looked at him curiously.

  “Do you know my mom?”

“Not really,” Scott replied, although his eyes were on me, “but I would certainly like to.”

I let Max pull me off, and I could have sworn I could feel his eyes burning into my back.

As the afternoon wore on we were on different sides of the garden but I couldn’t stop myself from stealing glances. I didn’t want to make it obvious but at the same time, I had never felt so instantly attracted to a man. As I watched him helping Ellen’s husband flip burgers I watched his large, tanned hands and thought about how they might feel on my body.

I wasn’t the only one...he kept looking at me too.

  Twice I caught hi
m staring at my ass, and every time our eyes met he gave me a slow, sexy smile that made my stomach tighten, deep in my body. But he didn’t come over.

When I went into the kitchen to give Ellen a hand with the plates I asked who he was.

“I’m not sure really,” she said, “he came with Connor’s dad, I think they work together. He’s gorgeous, isn’t he?”

“I’m sure he’s looking at me,” I confided.

“Well, duh,” Ellen responded with a laugh, “he hasn’t taken his eyes off you. Everyone’s noticed.”

I felt oddly flattered at that.

“Go and talk to him,” Ellen urged, “he’ll be going soon.”

I nodded. She was right. If I didn’t go and get his number I would regret it.

But then I looked out the kitchen window and saw it was already too late. He was leaving out the back gate, saying his goodbyes to Jimmy and his dad. I felt my heart sink.

Typical, I thought. I bet I’ll never see him again.

  Chapter Two

  Scott

I have to see her again.

It had been a week since the BBQ and I hadn’t been able to stop thinking about her.

  Naomi.

I’d given up on women after a string of unsatisfactory relationships and pretty much stopped looking, until I – literally – bumped into her.

She looked so hot with those wild blonde curls falling around her face from where she had pinned it up, and the simple dress she had on clung to every curve.

I like my women curvy and Naomi definitely fit that description. Those big breasts and generous ass had grabbed my attention all afternoon. The last thing I wanted to do was come across as some kind of lech but I couldn’t have taken my eyes off her if I’d tried.

I looked around for her as I left but she’d vanished. I was seriously considering asking my friend Jeff – his son Connor was the reason we were there – if he could find out her number for me. Or even her name so I could run it through the database....or would that scare her off?

But then I saw her and I realized I could ask her myself.

I’d pulled up the squad car to run and get some lunch from a bistro when I saw her walking down the road with her arms full of bags. Her hair was down and tumbling all over her shoulders and she was wearing a knee-length skirt that hugged her hips. My cock twitched at the sight of her.

“Naomi!” I called, walking towards her.

She looked shocked to see me, then went bright red and nearly dropped the bags she was trying so hard to manage.

“Hey, let me get them,” I said, taking some of them from out of her arms.

She stared at me. “You’re a cop?” she asked.

“Oh yeah,” I grinned. I’d forgotten she wouldn’t have seen me in uniform. “Yes, I was just grabbing a sandwich on the run. I take it you’ve been shopping?”

She gave a wry smile. “Yes, but not for me, for a client. I’m an interior designer and my current job is...difficult, to say the least.”

I smiled sympathetically, trying not to stare at her breasts in the low cut white blouse she was wearing. I was like an adolescent boy around her and I couldn’t seem to control it. I’d spent all week thinking about her and figuring out how I was going to manage to see her again, and now here she was. Right in front of me and looking more gorgeous than ever.

“Well I can’t sort out your client but I can at least help you with all these bags,” I said. “Where’s your car?”

“Just over the road,” she said, leading the way and giving me a welcome opportunity to watch her ass and hips swaying as she walked across the road ahead of me.

I piled the bags into the trunk of her car, very aware of how close she was standing to me.

“I hope things get better with your client,” I said as I stepped back and she closed the trunk, bending over slightly. She straightened up and turned towards me, her face just inches away from mine.

“It will be over soon,” she said with a hopeful sigh, pushing her hair back from her face.

I knew I couldn’t let her go again without getting her number, or even a date.

“Are all your clients so difficult?” I asked, trying to keep her talking while I worked out the best way to ask her out. My hands were getting sweaty and I was beginning to get nervous. There was something about this girl. Somehow I knew it mattered whether she said yes or not. Like I was standing at a crossroads. One way leading to a life where I get to wake up in the same bed as her every day. Get to smell her hair and taste her lips before I head off to work. Get to kiss her naked body when I come home. Rip her clothes off with my teeth, whisper dirty things in her ear and pleasure her with my tongue and fingers and my cock.

I didn’t want just a date. I wanted to make her mine.

“No, thank God,” she laughed. “Usually my job is awesome – it’s all I’ve ever wanted to do. For every bad client, there are ten good ones. But when it’s the bad one your working for it still kind of sucks.” She started playing with a necklace and I couldn’t help but look at her beautiful cleavage. My cock throbbing with desire. Lust coursing through me and making all kinds of explicit thoughts pour through my mind. “What about you?” she said, “being a cop can’t be easy.”

“It isn’t,” I admitted, just about managing to keep it together, “but I suppose I’m like you in that regard – I’ve never wanted to do anything else.”

She smiled at that, and then looked away. I knew I had to say something right then before she got in her car and drove away.

“Naomi,” I said quietly, catching her eyes and looking deeply into them, “I shouldn’t really be doing this while I’m on duty but...I’d really like to ask you out on a date.”

She blushed and her eyes widened as if she couldn’t believe what I had just said. But I could tell she was pleased.

“I’d love to,” she said. I felt a rush of triumph. She said yes!

“Good. How about tonight, can you get a sitter?” I had already waited all week, now I knew I had her interest I wasn’t waiting any longer.

“I think so,” she said, taking a pen from her handbag and writing her number on the back of my hand, “call me.”

As she went to move around to get into her car I laid a hand on her arm.

“Wait,” I said softly, looking about to make sure there was no-one else around before pulling her to me. Bending my head down and pushing my lips against hers. My cock pulsed immediately at the taste and scent of her. I put an arm around her, bunching the hair at the nape of her neck and tugged her even closer. She opened her mouth as I kissed her harder and more roughly and a soft moan escaped my lips. It turned me on so much I knew if I didn’t stop I wouldn’t be able to hide the bulge in my pants. I let her go, kissing her lightly on her bottom lip and stepped back.

She stared at me, looking slightly dazed, and I knew she’d felt it too.

“Eight o’clock tonight,” I said, then turned and left her staring after me.

  Chapter Three

  Naomi

I finished up my work that afternoon as quickly as I could and hurried home. I’d already phoned Ellen and asked her to watch Max. She’d squealed down the phone in delight when I told her what I was doing and who with. I could hardly believe it myself.

He looked even hotter in his uniform, something I would have said wasn’t possible, and the kiss had been the most sexually exciting moment of my life.

Heat had rushed through me the minute his lips touched mine and I finally understood what people meant when they used the phrase ‘weak at the knees’. I could have given myself to him right then and there in the middle of the street I was so aroused.

I picked Max up and was mildly relieved when he didn’t ask any questions about spending an impromptu evening at Jimmy’s. He was far too excited about having fun with his friend to worry about what his mum was up to.

I made us dinner and got Max changed from school as if in a daze, unable to stop thinking about Scott and the impending dat
e.

I hadn’t had a date in months. I had begun to despair about ever meeting anyone nice, and of course I had to be extra picky because of Max. Not only was Scott super hot but he was a cop too and seemed to be a gentleman judging by the way he had helped me with my bags. But then there had been the kiss...I blushed at the memory of his lip on mine and how I had so eagerly responded. The thought of more to come that night made my heart flutter quickly in my chest. I wasn’t sure which took precedence...the nerves or the excitement. I decided to just try and relax and enjoy myself. Even if it didn’t lead anywhere it would be lovely to have a date with a man like that and it was about time I had some fun, I told myself firmly.

Now I just have to decide what to wear.

I rifled through my wardrobe, discarding most of my outfits impatiently. Everything, I was sure, would only make me look fat. Then I remembered a dress I bought for a Christmas party last year which I never attended because Max got sick.

It was a little black number with a plunging cleavage. I wondered if it still fit.

I tried it on and braved a look in the mirror, surprised and pleased to find that not only did it still fit but it looked better than I remembered. It clung in all the right places and skimmed over others and showed off my hourglass shape rather than just making me look plump. My boobs were pushed up to maximum effect.

  It was perfect.

I showered as quickly as possible while being extra thorough, blow-dried and diffused my unruly hair into some semblance of a curl pattern, applied what I hoped was tasteful make-up and put the dress back on with a pair of simple black heels. I hoped I wasn’t overdoing it – I had no idea where he was planning on taking me. What if he was planning on ice-skating, or the cinema, and here was me all dressed up? What did policemen do on first dates? I had no idea, but I guessed I was about to find out.

When I dropped Max off Ellen let out a low whistle when she saw me.
