About the Author
James Essinger is a British writer of nonfiction and fiction. His book Jacquard’s Web was one of The Economist’s five best popular science books of 2004. His other books include Spellbound: The Surprising Origins and Astonishing Secrets of English Spelling, published on both sides of the Atlantic. Essinger is working on a musical about Ada Lovelace and a biography of Charles Babbage, The Enchanted Philosopher, and he has written a children’s novel, Canterbury: Codeword Cantia, set in Canterbury, England, where he lives.
