“I want the Elementals to all be a sleep. I barely saved this young man as your daughter Seraphina went insane and burned a village to the ground. It was shocking to say in the least.”
“Sera would not have lost control if you would not have put this young man in danger. She is very fond of him.”
This caught Connors attention, and Desdemona knew she needed to prevent Gaia from undoing all she has done with him. “enough of this bantering, Haresh take Connor where he can be safe, while Gaia and I talk.”
Haresh took Connor to a nearby field away from the battles. He watched over Connor. “My priestess fears Sera will try to destroy you.”
“Why did Gaia say Sera was fond of me if she means to kill me?”
“Gaia is Sera’s mother. She will say anything to protect her. This war would not be if Sera would not have attacked your village.”
“That is a lie Gimp!” Adrianna appeared out of nowhere. “Quit lying to the man and let him decide on his own what he feels for Sera.”
“Adrianna, have you missed me? I did feel a connection between us the last time we met. Did you feel it too?” Haresh goaded the Elemental.
“Connor, Sera is very fond of you, she means you no harm. Desdemona is using you as bait to trap Sera. This gimp trapped me not long ago, they have a formula they use to put us a sleep. So do not believe what they say.”
“Why did Sera destroy Bago?”
“She was tricked and distraught. She thought you betrayed her to Desdemona. Do you not think it is odd you are the only one she saved?”
“Yes I do.” Connor turned to Haresh. “Why am I the one you chose to save?”
Haresh looked at Connor and back at Adrianna, “I tried to save more. You were tied to a tree and unconscious, easy to grab when everyone was looking at the pyre.” Haresh turned to Adrianna, shook his head and knocked Connor out. He lunged at Adrianna and took her to the ground before she could transform.
Adrianna wrestled with Haresh and called out to the rains. The waters started to give her strength so she could take the lead over him. As they fought back and forth; the waters falling from the sky started to wake Connor. He awakes amongst the battle between Adrianna and Haresh. He watched intensely trying to decide what to do. Who is telling him the truth?
He watches them battle back and forth and Haresh takes a syringe from his pocket to stab into Adrianna. Connor remembers Adrianna stating he used a formula to trap her. He grabs a rock and crashes it into Haresh head, bringing him to the ground. The syringe releases into Adrianna and she collapses to the ground.
Connor drops beside her and tries to wake her. “You were supposed to be ok. I believe you and I believe in Sera.” He sits and holds Adrianna and hope that Gaia can wake her. He picks her up and carries her back to where Desdemona battles Gaia. He hopes he can distract her long enough.
“Desdemona! Your gimp has failed you. He could not keep your lies from coming out. I know what you did. I killed your gimp.”
Desdemona turns to look at him, and sees Adrianna on the ground. Her smile broadens as she sees the shock on Gaia’s face.
Gaia looks to Connor, “What happened? How could he take down an Elemental?”
“I think she is a sleep. I hoped you could wake her.” Connor spoke quickly and desperately. “She saved me from Haresh. I thought I was saving her from him and as I bashed a rock into his head the syringe went into her. I didn’t mean for this to happen.”
Anger filled Gaia as she looked onto Adrianna. “No more playing with you Desdemona!” Gaia raised her arms all four elements crashed into Desdemona. Water poured from the sky into her, the winds started to spin her like a tornado. The Earth split open and lava pulled the dark witch to the center of the Earth and the ground sealed closed. Desdemona was gone. Gaia went to Adrianna and picked her up into her arms. She and Connor walked to the battle field and announced Desdemona was dead. The War is over
Six of the dark witches still live. Insanity has set its seeds into all of them now. Isabel steps forward. “We will raise her from the dead. We will be back to destroy you all.” She waves her arms through the air and a portal forms taking her dark witches and human followers with her. The lost souls went back into the shadows. The battle finally cease. Relief filled us all. Is it truly over can we start to heal the Earth and rebuild a world that is in harmony.
Chapter 44: Sickness in the Earth
I BEGIN CALMING MY flames as I see the battles had ceased. I stop and see the damage that has truly been inflicted on the Earth and our people. I think Gaia is truly seeing the damage for the first time that has been inflicted not just from the battle but the entire time she has been asleep.
I look to my sisters they are worn and the battle shows on each one. Terra has finally been reunited with Wyatt, and V has rekindled her relationship with Zach. Adrianna has been talking to Zidon a lot, something may be growing there. I can see Connor staring out in amazement and still in shock of the reality of what he has endured. I am trying to approach him; I need to know if he can forgive me. I am not sure if he can, in reality I cannot forgive myself.
Connor is finally looking at me, lost and confusion is in his eyes. He starts to walk to me slowly. I do not see the spark of energy he carried back in Bago, he was fun and energetic. Now sad and broken, I did this to him; I destroyed his home and his faith. I should have never gone there. I do not even know how to begin repairing the damage I have just caused.
“Do you think you can explain this to me? I am in a mental over load. I know now Desdemona was lying to me about a lot of things but I am not sure how much. I want to believe that you did not truly destroy all of Bago, but I also understand how you could have. Everything I just experienced in the last few days goes against everything I have been taught. But I have always known there was more to the world than what I was taught.”
I can feel the tears well up in my eyes as I try to think of how to tell him I destroyed his entire life. I wish I could blame the Fates on this one. I take a deep breath and begin to tell him the story of how the Elementals are and where they fit in with all the faiths of the people. I explain the Witches, Wicca, and the Druids. I brought him all up to date to the moment I came to his village.
The tears started to take over; I do not have a delicate way to explain what I did, so I chose to look away and just tell him. The moment he met me in the pew of the church, I began to destroy his life. I do not know how to take it back or fix the damage I have caused.
He looked me in the eyes and did not say a word at first, just stared at me. Absorbing all I had just explained to him. “I do not think you destroyed my life by meeting me in a pew. I believe the Fates had us meet so I would see the world as a whole and use my knowledge to make sense of all this. I want to help heal the Earth. I want to learn more.”
“Do you want me to ask the Faye to let you learn more? Perhaps Annabella and Dominic can show you more of the natural magic that humans were created from.” I could feel the fear of him wanting to learn from someone other than me creeping up inside of me. I am still waiting to hear him tell me he hates me.
He looked at me with a tilted head and a little bit of playful curve came to his lips. “Hmmm, it would probably be good for me to learn the human gifts from Annabella and Dominic, if they would not mind teaching me. I am curious if this sending me away to learn stuff is how you want to deal with the guilt that keeps your eyes from truly looking into mine. I do not think I will let you off that easy, Sera. I want you to have to teach me the history not the Faye folk. You will have to spend every day with me.” His tone had gone from sullen to teasing.
I could not believe he is asking me to spend every day with him, after all I have done. “You don’t hate me?” All I could muster to say.
“I do not think I could ever hate you. I have waited my whole life to find a woman that will change my life. I think you did that, in a way I never knew was possible.” Sarcasm filled his voice, as the smirk filled his face.
A
little hope reached inside of me and a laugh slipped out. “I am not a typical human woman.”
“No you are not.” He leaned in and kissed me gently on the mouth. A warm feeling that was not a flame filled me. I returned the kiss back and wished the world would go away. Then I heard the screams.
We break apart and run back to where the screams came. I see where the ground had broken and swallowed Desdemona. The ground has turned black in that one spot. As if the little bit of the Earth died right there. I look to Gaia for explanation. I then heard the scream again, this time I seen it came from Gwain the hawk twin. He was kneeling on the ground and holding someone.
My heart began to race for fear of who it was. Gaia knelt down on one side of him as Adara kneeled to the other side. Tears in her eyes, Adara started to sing the song of passing. Adaliah and Sephitis appeared to escort the soul. That is when I could see it was Gwain’s sister Gavina. I do not know how. The battle has been over, who could do this now. Connor reached for my hand and held it close to his heart. Adara’s song continued and the other Faye people began to sing with her.
Gaia spoke first after the soul had passed. “Haresh lingered after the death of Desdemona. I thought he had fallen in the battle. He shot Gavina, our great human hawk, with a poison dart in the air. A keeper of the hawks, so few now of these beautiful beings. I know of your pain Gwain, and it will not go unavenged. Desdemona is not dead. She is trapped in the Earth and as you see her magic is still killing the Earth but now internally. I am using all of my magic to keep her contained. Her followers will try to release her. I need all of you to continue working together to end her following and then we can end her. As long as she has followers she has power.”
Adara handed Gwain’s hand to Drusilla, she stood and held her head up high. She transformed into her true Faye form. She was magnificent; her transparency glowed with rainbows of color. Her long golden hair and ever changing eyes had fierce anger in them. She flew above us and looked down at us all. Looking at all that is left of our army.
“We have united Elves, Faye, Dwarves, Timekeepers, Elementals and even humans and dragons. The first time in history we have all come together for a just cause. I have lost too many of those I love in this bitter war with the dark witches. I want it done. I do not think we should discuss, I say we hunt them down and finish it. They will gather the dark souls and be stronger. If we attack each one of them, only seven counting the gimp, we can end this. The dark souls are their strength; if we attack them they will not have them at their disposal.”
Adara voice reached all of us, she spoke as true ruler and reminded me again of a just Queen that she has always been. She has been Queen for thousands of years and no one has ever tried to end her term.
Everyone cheered, we decided to rally and attack. Verniella transformed and flew out to find where the witches had dispersed. The rest of us began to march toward the caves, where the witches have felt was their home. We will take the caves; we will take the Earth back from this darkness and revel in the glory of finally healing the Earth.

About the Author
Loving literature and the adventure a good book can take you inspired me as a young child to be an avid reader. As I grew older I played with poetry finding unique ways to send messages that were dear to me. As an adult, my messages have become less dark and more concerned. My first series of books are short novelettes about the Elementals and the destruction of the Earth. The mistreatment of the Earth and its inhabitants are something that I hold dear to me. Recognizing everyone is unique but should be allowed to express themselves. The fantasy realms help me leave the world we live in, and adventure in one we would only dream of.
The adventures I write are a combination of my dreams and beliefs brought to life. I had worked in manufacturing most of my life and had been downsized several times. I went on to college received a Bachelor’s degree in Business Programs and am now a Buyer/Planner by day and Fantasy write by night. Writing started out as a way to express and vent about the trials of life. It has grown to be a way to share with others who want to get away from the stress of life to a world of beauty and magic.
