Renegade of Two Realms Page 26

by Phil Parker

‘Your sister and I are concerned for you Finn. We don’t want you getting involved with known troublemakers. I know you feel a certain loyalty for that man…’

They were talking about me. I felt Luke tense.

Brea uttered a few choice words that defined her disgust in me but they were new grudges. She warned Finn how my deviant ways meant I couldn’t be trusted. The other man’s interruption had the tone of a teacher who’s allowed the stupidest kid in the class to speak and regretted it.

‘Robin Goodfellow is trouble, Finn. He’s a spy. A murderer. A psychotic one from what Brea’s told me. If he escapes he’ll try to get back to the fairies and warn them of our plans. You don’t want that to happen, do you? He will ruin humanity’s chances of survival. Your family were held responsible for the fairy’s invasion, you and Brea paid the penalty. The worst thing to happen now is that you get blamed again. You must know, I couldn’t protect you if that happened, despite how I feel for your sister. You’d be on your own.’

‘Listen to him Finn. Jake knows what he’s talking about.’

I hoped Finn wasn’t going to betray us because it was obvious this man had won Brea to his side. I heard footsteps approach the cupboard and held my breath.
