The Last Friend Page 26

Donovan’s mouth went dry. The cold air no longer bothered him; he didn’t even notice it. As Monica burst into sobs, he pulled her close and let the tears run down his own face.

“I’m sorry, Mr. Glass. I loved Lizzy so much.”

  “I loved her, too.”

“And I have your money,” she said, wiping at the tears freezing against her cheeks. “I’m sorry about that.”

He shook his head. “Keep the money, Monic—what is your name anyway?”

Monica smiled and gave a sideways nod toward the Range Rover. “Let’s get you back to your banker before you catch a cold, huh?”

  THE END

  ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

This novel and its publication through Kindle Press would not have happened without the help, feedback, and encouragement of many talented and selfless people. Primarily, without the advice and guidance from Lisa Seich and the two editors who were kind enough to work on this manuscript, this story would still be in its infancy. Thank you, Jon S. Ford, for your perfectionist style and making sure the manuscript shone.

Megan Hand, you’ve been helping my stories make sense since the very start, and I’ll always be indebted to you, your comments, and ongoing friendship. You’re tough, so when I received your initial feedback on The Last Friend, I was beyond pleased that this novel had the impact it had.

There are several bloggers/believers who preached the strengths of this story and were instrumental in rallying solid support for its publication. Julie Galvin, Wendy Racine, Denise Tung, and Verna McQueen, I can’t thank you enough for everything you’ve done and continue to do!

I also want to extend a huge thank you to Jessica Robins, Amber Brillinger, and Amy Sullivan for taking a chance on an unknown author who wrote to you out of nowhere. I hope The Last Friend didn’t disappoint.

To my readers, most of whom are anonymous, I really can’t thank you enough. You make writing worthwhile. Call me shallow, but without the shares, reviews, and connections, I don’t know what I’d be writing as I do. Anonymous or not, it’s because of you and everything you do that I’m addicted to producing as many stories as my keyboard will allow.

To the entire Kindle Press team, thank you for your tireless energy and dedication to disrupting the publishing industry. Your unique process speaks volumes about your startup-like approach to this ever-changing world of literary entertainment, and I can’t wait to see what comes next! Each interaction leaves me even more convinced than ever that Amazon Publishing is the right fit for me.

Lastly, I must thank my wife. She allows me to write full-time and believes in what I’m doing. Oh, and she also makes sure that our kids eat. Thank you for understanding and allowing me to chase my dreams.
