But even more so that she loves me, for some reason, she loves me.

At the end of the night, we retreat to my bedroom, finally. But in the middle of getting each other naked, she decides it’s a good time for conversation.

  “What?” I groan.

“Evan. He’s moving to London. Won’t you miss him?”

My lips leave her neck, and I lean up to stare down at her. I sigh and roll over sitting next to her on the bed.

  “No, not really.” I chuckle.

She gives me a look, and I roll my eyes at her.

“Maybe. I’ve worked with him every day for years. But we’re family and a simple plane ride away.”

  “Okay. Sure.”

I smile and kiss her, my lips sliding over hers, my tongue lightly tasting against hers. I pull away taking her in with her bra and panties on—lacy black material that gets every nerve in my body buzzing.

“You’re beautiful, Forbes. Every inch of you is so fucking gorgeous.”

She blinks her eyes at me and smiles softly. “I know.” She laughs as I thump her nose, and she shoves my shoulder in jest.

“You make me feel that way, every day. I love that about you. Among other things.”

“I plan to do that for a while.”

  “What’s a while?”

  I shrug. “Indefinite.”

She grins, shaking her head at me.

“A lifetime.” I smile, and her eyes widen. “We could get married.”

She gapes for a moment, lips flying before she says anything. “Is that how you’re supposed to ask?”

“No, but I know you very well. I couldn’t ask if I weren’t sure you would say yes. And I know you’re not, even I’m not. But I think about it sometimes, marrying you.” I hold her close to me, and her gaze softens at mine. “You wouldn’t be able to refuse my gifts. I would get to have you forever. It wouldn’t get any better than that. Unless I die prematurely of a heart attack, then that would suck. But otherwise, we could spend our lives together.”

“Dylan…” she breathes deeply as her eyes glisten, “…are you asking me?” she whispers.

I rise and pull her with me, the dim lights of the room cast her in a glow before me, my perfect woman. Perfect everything.

“Only if you promise to love me even when you hate me.”

Forbes smiles, the look in her eyes one I am very familiar with by now. My favorite one. Her golden hair and green eyes, translucent tanned skin and plump lips. I know every crevice of her beauty and pain, and I love all of it.

  She loves all of mine.

  “I promise.”
