“Aye, we’ll get up with y’all later,” Donnie said, escorting the girl out with his hand on her lower back. His homie and the other bitch followed. I waited until the door closed behind them before I sat down.

“Going to bat for yo’ dick, huh?” Mischief laughed.

“Yep!” Melody answered. Silence immediately took over the room, before everyone except Kordell started laughing.

“It’s that Orchid bitch! How the fuck she know what a dick is!” Kordell barked. He was so mad but I couldn’t help but to keep laughing as he glared at me. This nigga blamed Orchid for everything.

“Kordell, she doesn’t know, she’s just talking,” I giggled.

“And y’all niggas shut the fuck up!” he barked at Mischief and Chaz. “Melody get over here.”

Melody quickly hopped down out of Mischief’s lap, and rushed over to her father as he handed me KJ. Kordell picked Melody up to put her in his lap then asked, “What you know about dick, Mel?”

  “Kordell!” I exclaimed.

“Nigga, why the fuck you ask her that bullshit?” Chaz scoffed and shook his head at his brother.

Kordell kept his eyes on Melody, waiting for an answer and ignoring the fact that Chaz and I were appalled.

  “Umm… it’s a boy,” Melody replied.

  “It’s a boy?” Kordell repeated.

Nodding her head, she replied, “Yep. Dicks are boys.”

“Oh, aight. Well, don’t use the word. I mean in case you ever thought about it don’t use it. Aight?”

  “Okay, Daddy.”

“And by the way, ya Daddy is a man.” Kordell flexed his muscles, making everyone groan in irritation at his ignorant ass.

“I know!” Melody giggled and then hopped down to run back over to Mischief.

“I bet you she learned that shit from Orchid’s hoe ass,” he whispered to me as soon as Melody was out of ear shot, making me laugh and shake my head.

“Baby, you are out of your mind. But I love you.”

“Who is that?” he asked when he saw my phone ring and me quickly hit ignore. “Give me that shit.”

“Kordell it’s… just this girl I met who is my sister,” I replied once he snatched my phone from me, looking in my call log angrily.

  “What?”

“This girl named Ellison. She’s my dad’s other daughter and we were gonna get to know one another. I was kind of excited but she started acting weird.”

“How? And why am I just now finding out about this shit?”

“Because I wanted to get to know her before I brought her over or anything. And she blew up on one of my fans when they interrupted us at dinner. She’s just too eager to get closer, so I cut her off.”

“I thought you would want family around, other than us.”

  “I do.”

“So why cut her off because of those small ass things? Be happy she wants to get closer to you.”

“Yeah. I guess it was just weird.”

“And you’re talking about me with Orchid. But only difference is you’re tripping and I’m right.”

“Whatever. Did you tell your brothers about your mama?” I spoke lowly.

“No, and keep that shit a secret. She ain’t changed so ain’t shit to say.”

“KJ, stop.” I moved his little hand from pulling on my gold necklace. “KJ!” I repeated when he kept tugging.

“Kordell!” Kordell hissed, and like always, my baby sat his ass back and chilled.

My kids and I stayed with my husband and his brothers for about an hour longer, just listening to some of the new tracks that had been recorded. The whole time my mind kept drifting to Ellison and wondering if I should give her a chance.

“Better stop moving like that before I put another one of these in you.” Kordell watched me lustfully and gestured towards KJ.

“Well, I’m gonna take them to see my mom because she’s been bugging me about them. And she said she needed to talk to me in an hour from now.”

  “Saved by the bell.”

I kissed him and then picked KJ up from his lap.

I left the studio after saying bye to Mischief and Chaz, and after promising Melody ice cream so that she’d leave her father. Once we made it down, I buckled them in, and then headed towards my mother’s, wondering what she needed to talk to me about, and why at a certain time.

I pulled up into her and Johnathan’s long roundabout driveway, and I noticed another car was there as well. I racked my brain trying to figure out who it belonged to, but nothing came up.

I got my kids out of the car, and thankfully, KJ’s ass was knocked out from the slightly long drive due to the traffic. I slipped my key into the front door, and I heard conversation coming from the den, so I followed it. Upon entering, I saw my mother and Johnathan sitting together. Adjacent to them was a man who looked a lot like my father and then another girl.

“Cassandra!” My mom smiled and stood up. She came to me and kissed my cheek, before leaning down to hug and kiss Melody.

“Ma, who are these people?” I didn’t want to recognize the guy as my father and he be someone else because that would be unbelievably embarrassing for me and my mom.

“Hi, honey,” Johnathan spoke as he came over and hugged me, then sat back down.

“Hey,” I replied, keeping my eyes on the dark-skinned man and the light skinned girl sitting next to him.

“Have a seat baby.” My mother gestured towards the empty love seat.

I sat down with KJ still asleep on my chest, and Melody sat next to me. It was quiet for a little bit as my mother took her seat back next to Johnathan, but then she finally decided to speak.

“So, honey, when you told me you’d met back up with your sister on your father’s side, I told Johnathan about it. He thought we should contact your father, but as you know, I didn’t have his number and hadn’t talked to him since you were a little girl. So, Johnathan used his resources and found your father in Connecticut.” She pointed to the full-blooded Jamaican man that I knew was my dad, but it’d been so long that I didn’t feel anything. “And this young lady here is… Ellison Reid.”

“Wait, what? She’s not Ellison. I met Ellison!” I spat.

  “Baby—”

“It’s Cassie,” I corrected my ‘father’.

“Cassie, this is your sister. I’m not sure who you’ve met, but this is Ellison. I only have two daughters; you and her.”

“How do I know this is Ellison? She could be the imposter!”

“Cassie, I’ve been Ellison all of my life. We met back in Tennessee for a little while, but we fell off because my father came back into my life. I’d only contacted you in hopes we could find him together, but after he returned, there was no need.”

“Oooooh.” I chuckled angrily. “So you wanted to use me. I see. And when he came back to you and your mother, you just figured I didn’t need him anymore, right? Even though I was pregnant.”

“I know how it sounds, but I was fifteen years old at the time, and you were older. I was selfish and I apologize.”

“Well good luck to you both and I hope you continue to have a great life together as father and daughter.” I stood up. “Come on, Melody.”

“Cassandra, why don’t you guys have lunch one day or something.”

“Lunch? For what? I haven’t needed him or her this whole time and I don’t want to start. I am perfectly happy with my life so please leave me the fuck alone! You got our father all to yourself so be happy!” I turned to my dad and said, “And you got away without having to raise me so you be happy as well. Both of you can go suck a fat one!”

“Cassandra!” my mother exclaimed as Johnathan’s jaw hit the floor. “Cassandra, come back here!”

I quickly left out with my kids, and hurriedly buckled them into the car. It took longer than expected because my hands were shaking and my heart was beating fast. Who was this bitch that had come into my life pretending to be my sister? And how did she know so damn much about Ellison and me?<

Getting into my car, I took a detour and hopped on the freeway to go to ‘Ellison’s’ apartment on Crenshaw. I expected to drop my kids off with my mom, but I didn’t want them there with my whack ass father and bitch ass sister.

A whole damn hour later because of the fucking traffic, not to mention Ellison’s place was already far, I’d finally made it. I parked in front, and then got my babies out to enter the building. I found the manager’s office, and thankfully he was inside but getting ready to go.

“No vacancies darling,” he told me in a thick country accent.

“Oh no, I was wondering if you could tell me which apartment Ellison Reid is in.” I adjusted KJ on my hip, and then grabbed Melody’s hand again.

“And who the hell are you?”

“Her sister, sir. I forgot her apartment number, and I wanted to go up there. We had an argument and I’d like to apologize.”

“I can’t help you. For all I know you could be some killer.” He gestured for me to leave his office as he started out.

Walking out with him on my heels I said, “Sir, please, I’d really like to see my sister.”

“And I’d really like to go to bed. Now goodnight.” He locked his office up and then walked his ugly old ass off.

I got my babies back into the car, and then headed home so I could figure out what to cook for them and their father.

I had to find out what the fuck was going on, and I would get in that apartment… somehow.

  Mischief

I sat back in the swivel chair inside of the studio with my eyes closed, listening to the track Sierra recorded. We’d finally gotten her amateur ass to record the song in full, and damn was it tiring. I didn’t mind directing artists, but her ass needed too much muthafucking direction. For one, she’d never been inside of a booth, and her excuse was that she was an actress who could sing, and not the other way around. Whatever the fuck her reason was, I was just happy to be done with one damn song. I was tired of barking at her ass every two seconds.

Hearing the doorknob twist, I inhaled sharply because I knew it was either her ass, or Teryll. I couldn’t stand either one of them hoes, and if I was still completely like my old self, I probably would have smacked the shit out of both of their asses by now.

“Hey, bae.” Sierra’s annoying ass voice seemed to blare over the music.

“Fuck I tell you about calling me bae?” I sat up and cut the music off.

She just chuckled and placed her big ass purse on top of the bar before jumping up on top of it. I told her she couldn’t sit next to me ever, so even though there was an empty chair at the soundboard, her ass had to find seating elsewhere.

“Damn, why can’t I call you bae? You won’t let me touch you or sit next to you. We don’t have conversation. So damn, let me get something.”

“Call me bae again, Sierra.” I turned in my chair and stared at her, hood pulled up over my head and hands laced together in my lap.

Her happy expression fell, and her eyes scanned my face for a few moments before she just looked away. That’s what the fuck I thought. And shit, after seeing that video of Laine giving it to that Gabrielle bitch, you’d think she wouldn’t want any muthafucking parts of that. I laughed thinking about that viral ass video. My baby was just as bad as me; a beast.

“Can I hear the song from the top?” she broke the silence.

  “Nope.”

  “Whyyyy, Mischief!”

“Shut the fuck up with all that got damn whining, fuck! You get on my damn nerves girl. I can’t wait to be done working with yo’ ass. On some real, do you ever just shut the fuck up or is it always nonstop with you? Somebody needs to drop some dick off in ya mouth so you’ll shut the fuck up sometimes.”

She smacked her teeth and then looked away all sadly and shit as if I was supposed to care. All this time we’d spent together and she still didn’t know that Mischief didn’t give a fuck about shit that wasn’t Laine, Lanai, or music.

“Why you gotta be so me—”

“Sierra.” I kept my back to her but said her name sternly enough so that she knew to stop talking.

We waited in silence, and finally, Teryll showed up but with one of the other girls from the show. Her and Sierra had a duet in one of the episodes, so that was what we were recording today. I prayed like hell that she was nothing like her cast mate because I wasn’t about to deal with three funky ass, annoying bitches at once. Some shit had to give.

“Mischief.” I rose to my feet slowly, feeling the blunt I’d just taken to the face about fifteen minutes ago.

“Callie,” she shyly responded and shook my hand.

Her hand shook inside of mine, so I quickly let it go so her ass wouldn’t have a heart attack. She was short, chocolate, and had some big ass curly hair. She was the total opposite of Sierra’s light bright ass.

“Callie is a bit on the shy side, Mischief, so keep that in mind while we’re working.” Teryll’s ass jumped in, sliding in between Callie and me.

“Anyway.” I put my hand in Teryll’s face, gripped it, and gently pushed her ass out my muthafucking way.

“Nigga, no you didn’t!” Teryll mumbled as she stumbled off a little.

“Have you been able to hear the song?” I asked Callie.

“I, yes, I heard the demo. The umm, Si-Sierra emailed it to me and I uh, yes, I got it and I like it.”

“You wanna hit the blunt?” I grinned down at her and she smiled back before she nervously shook her head ‘no’. “Then relax. We’re just here to make some music and that’s it, aight?” I touched her shoulder and saw her leg start to shake so I let up.

“Oh, so you wanna be nice to her?”

“Sierra, shut the fuck up!” I barked, going back to my seat at the mixer.

Lord, please keep me from killing this bitch.

Sierra went into the booth first because I wanted to get her out of my ear. Even the scent of her cheap ass perfume was sickening. The smell fucking haunted me at night. I legit couldn’t stand the bitch.

“I’m gonna go get some Starbucks, you want anything, Callie?” Teryll got up from the couch in the back.

“Nah, sit yo’ ass back down. We’re still fucking working.” I looked over my shoulder at her like she was crazy. Bitch was always trying to slip out and leave me to do the fucking work. Yeah, all she did was write, but she needed to be here to make sure the song or words went accordingly.

“You ain’t my daddy, nigga.” Teryll chuckled to herself as she stood up and grabbed her purse to throw over her shoulder.

“Sit yo’ ass down, man,” I spoke calmly, getting up to stand by the door.

  “Or what, nigga?”

Moving in close and towering over her, I snarled, “Or we gon’ have some muthafucking problems.” She rolled her eyes so I added, “And I’m with the bullshit so try me.”

She turned around and mumbled something, but sat her ass right back down on that couch. I returned to my seat, and then gave Sierra the go head so we could start her part.

“Are you… are you really a gang banger?” Callie basically whispered as she toyed with the zipper of her purse.

“What you think?” I smirked. She blushed and looked away, before turning her attention back to me and shrugging. “Yeah, I am.”

  “They let you do music?”

I burst into laughter, throwing my head back some because that was one of the stupidest most naïve questions I’d ever been asked.

“Does my gang let me do music? That’s what you’re asking?”

  “Yeah. What’s so funny?”

“Nothing, baby. But I do what the fuck I want, period. Don’t nobody tell me when, where, or how a nigga can do shit.”

“That’s good. I like the music you do, especially for your brothers. It’s really good. I like this one too.”

“Thank you.” I turned from her, stopped the music, and pressed the button so Sierra could hear me. “Get off the fucking phone!”

  Sierra stomped her feet a
nd rolled her eyes, before slipping her new phone into the pocket of them hoe shorts she was rocking.

After an hour and a half of Teryll and I getting in her ass, Sierra was finally able to get her shit together and finish her verse. Like last time though, we’d have to double this shit on another session. Callie got in the booth and Sierra came out after, mean mugging her for a little bit.

“Oh my gosh ba— Mischief, look!” Sierra exclaimed, staring down at her phone.

“What?” I snatched her phone since she had it outreached to me.

I saw one of them damn Instagram blogs were at it again. It looked like Cardio’s ass had crawled up from some damn where, and teamed up with that nigga Bodhi. They were talking shit, telling me they’d come meet me and all this whack ass shit. What real nigga goes on social media to say what the fuck they gotta say? They both had ways of getting my info, and at the least they could have sent that shit through a DM. It was aight though; I wasn’t no bitch like Bodhi, so sending my location was nothing for me to do.

“Here.” I handed Sierra back her phone.

  “So what you gon—”

  “Sierra, go home, please.”

“Bye, bae! Ah!” She tried to run after saying that shit but I slick tripped her ass and sent her flying to floor and looking stupid.

“Watch yo’ dusty ass mouth,” I spat as Callie cracked up from inside of the booth. Even Teryll was trying not to laugh as Sierra’s extra’d out ass groaned and shit while getting up from the floor.

She rushed out, so Teryll, Callie, and I got back to business.

I would be lying if I said that shit with Cardio and Bodhi didn’t have me hot. And then to see busted pussy ass Rita in the background infuriated me even more.

Recording Callie was a breeze and honestly, I wasn’t surprised. She took direction well so I didn’t have the urge to get on her at all. She made mistakes of course, but it was cool and didn’t bother me. By the time we finished, it was around 8 p.m., so everyone packed up to leave. When I got to my car, a text that I’d been waiting on for a few hours finally came through.
