“Will you rest with me in your room?” She gazed up at me with puppy dog eyes.
“Do you want me to?”
She nodded.
“Okay.” How could I say no to this girl who’d traveled days to find me? And who was I kidding? I wanted to be with her as much as she wanted to be with me. She filled a hole in me that no one had filled for a long time. After years of dreaming about her, she was finally here.
I took her hand and led her into the one bedroom in the small cabin.
“Is there a bathroom I could use first?”
“Of course.” I pointed to the bathroom right outside my room.
“Be right out.”
I waited impatiently for her. Now that the thought of having her in my bed had crossed my mind, I wanted it. I didn’t want her to suddenly change her mind.
The door to the bathroom opened. “Thanks.”
“You’re welcome…” Was I supposed to say you’re welcome? It’s not like she needed to thank me for letting her use my bathroom.
She walked into my room, but paused in front of my bed. “I don’t want to get your sheets dirty wearing my jeans.”
“I don’t care, but do you want to borrow a t-shirt to sleep in?” I eagerly anticipated a yes. The thought of her wearing only one of my shirts had me so aroused my jeans were becoming my worst enemy.
“That would be great.”
I pulled out a white t-shirt from the small wooden dresser and handed it to her. “Hope this works.”
“It’s perfect.” She glanced around the room.
“Want me to leave so you can change?” I didn’t want to go anywhere. I was struggling to hold myself together as it was.
“No. That’s okay.” She turned her back to me. I turned away, despite my desire to get a glimpse of her bare back. I couldn’t be a perv. She deserved better than that.
“You can turn around now,” she said a moment later.
My eyes went immediately to her bare legs. “Wow. You look good in that.”
She laughed nervously. “Thanks.” She pulled back the blanket and sheets and slipped in. “Aren’t you going to get changed?”
“Oh. I didn’t know how you felt about that.”
“I’ve already seen you in boxers.”
“True.” I quickly stripped down to my boxers and got in the bed beside her. I turned off the light before she noticed the crystal clear evidence of exactly how turned on she was making me. What was I doing? I barely knew the girl. That wasn’t true, and I knew it. Years of yearning had to count for something, especially if it was reciprocated.
“I’ve dreamed about you a lot.” She ran her fingers down my arm.
“I’ve dreamed about you too.” I rested my hand on her hip.
“Good dreams?” There was nervousness in her voice.
“Very good dreams.” I didn’t need to tell her about the nightmares. I didn’t want to scare her off.
“You’re real.” She rolled toward me. Her face was inches from mine.
“I am real.”
“Everyone tried to convince me I made you up. Even Reyna. You guys really cleared her mind.”
“I’m sorry. I know that must have been terrible for you. I’d hate it if people didn’t believe me.”
“I knew it was real. That you were real.”
“I’m glad.” I ran my hands through her hair. I hadn’t realized how much I’d missed her until she was next to me.
“Well, I did doubt it when I got to New Orleans and discovered that everyone and everything from my last visit was gone.”
“Even me.”
“Even you.”
“How’d you track me down?” In the end it didn’t matter. She’d made it here, but the fact that I’d gone from completely off the grid to easily accessible in a few days’ time was a bit surprising.
“It’s a really long story, but the big part was that Violet assumed Cade would know.”
“Because Cade knew Allures…”
“Evidently.”
“And Hailey was there?”
“Yup. Pretty convenient.”
“It is.” I smiled.
“Are you completely weirded out?”
“About what?”
“About me showing up… about having an Allure essence in me?”
“I was part of that kiss, so that should give you the answer to the part about you showing up. As to the Allure stuff, I have wings. Do you think the fact that you have some paranormal traits bothers me?”
“Do you think there’s a chance to make it go away?” She sat up on one elbow.
“There’s always a chance.”
“Do you know someone who might be able to help? Besides Mayanne?”
“Yes.” I smiled, knowing exactly who I’d ask. “But she’s back in New Orleans.”
Daisy laid her head back down. “I’m supposed to go back and see this quasi-Allure leader in Arizona after this.”
“You don’t have to do anything you don’t want to do.”
“I want to believe that, but I also need to figure out what’s happening with me.”
“Can you tell me about it?”
“Could it wait?”
“Sure. Whenever you’re ready.”
“It’s just that I’ve been waiting more than two years to see you again.”
Hearing her say that would never get old. “I know the feeling.”
“Do you?” She moved closer. “Do you know how hard it’s been? How no other man could even come close? You ruined me with that kiss.”
“I can do one better.”
“Yeah?” she asked breathlessly.
“I lost interest in kissing anyone else once I kissed you.” I hoped she took my words as a compliment not as an admission of my lameness.
“At least you still have interest in kissing me.”
“Lots of interest.” My eyes fixed on her lips again. I needed another taste.
“Then do it again.”
I let out a deep breath. “As much as I want to, we both know that things might go a lot farther than a kiss this time.”
“You mean the fact that we already want to rip each other’s clothes off might be accentuated by the fact that we’re half naked in your bed?” She put a hand over her mouth. “And I did it again. I just said exactly what was on my mind.”
“If it helps, it’s exactly what was on my mind.”
“That definitely helps.”
“You ready for that kiss?”
“I’m always ready for your kisses.”
“You might not be saying that in a few days.”
“A few days?” She ran her hand down my chest. “You think I’m staying around that long?”
“I figure that after waiting two and a half years to see me, I’d have to really be a letdown to make you leave any sooner.”
“You’re not going to be a letdown.”
“I guess there’s only one way to find out.”
“And what way would that be?” She ran her teeth over her bottom lip again.
“This way.” I crushed my lips against hers, not bothering to take the kiss slow this time.
I took advantage of her momentary surprise to slip into her mouth, hungrily devouring every inch I could get. She moaned softly, as her hands raked up and down my back. I slipped my hand underneath the t-shirt, exploring the soft skin of her stomach.
“Wait.” She broke the kiss, and I tried to cool myself off. Before I could get close she pulled off her t-shirt and tossed it on the edge of the bed. My eyes took in the site of her in just a bra and panties.
It was her turn to surprise me as she picked up the kiss exactly where we’d left off.
Chapter Twenty-One
Daisy
My body pulsated with a hunger so strong I could barely control myself. Lucky for me, Owen definitely didn’t mind. His hands immediately took advantage of the skin I’d exposed.
I was usually self-conscious the first time I let a man touch me, but it w
as different with Owen. It was both exciting and natural.
His hands explored my body as the kiss grew more and more fevered until I needed to come up for a breath.
Owen only gave me a few seconds before returning to my mouth. He cupped my breast through my bra, and I needed to get the fabric out of the way. He must have had the same thought, because he had my bra unclasped and tossed aside in seconds. He broke the kiss again and gazed at me with hungry eyes.
“God, you’re so beautiful.” His mouth descended on my other breast, and I closed my eyes. I moaned as his teeth grazed my nipple.
I needed more of him. I needed all of him. I slipped my hand into his boxers, eagerly taking him in my hand. He groaned as I stroked him gently. “You’re killing me, Daisy.”
“How do you think I feel?”
“I haven’t even started,” He grinned wickedly before slipping his hand between my legs. I resisted at first, nervous about letting him in, but his gentle coaxing had me opening up to him. He returned his mouth to my breast as his fingers gave me a pleasure I’d never felt before.
“Owen,” I moaned.
“We have one slight problem.” He lifted his head.
I had a feeling I knew exactly what that problem was. “I have a condom in my jeans.” I was grateful that Hugh had slipped it to me. “Don’t ask.”
“If it means I get to have you, I really don’t care.”
“You already know you can have me.”
“Good.” He pulled off my panties and tossed them into the pile of the rest of our clothes. His boxers followed.
I waited impatiently as he unwrapped the condom. “I guess it’s time for my test.”
“You’ve already passed.”
“Well, then let’s see if I can get some extra credit.”
“I never imagined you’d go for the teacher innuendo.”
“Neither did I.” He positioned himself over me.
I closed my eyes.
“Open your eyes for this.”
I listened. I opened my eyes, and they immediately locked on his. “You’re incredible, Daisy.” He thrust into me.
I gasped, taking a moment to adjust to the feel of him inside me. He moved slowly at first, easing in and out. “Tell me if I’m hurting you.”
“I don’t care. I want you.” I didn’t care. He was larger than the few other guys I’d been with, but I knew he’d fit perfectly. I knew every moment would be perfect.
“I never want to hurt you.” He stilled.
“Please, Owen. The only way you’re going to hurt me now is if you stop.”
“Then I won’t.” He sped up his movements, and I wrapped my legs around him. He moved in deeper and deeper, until the full length of him filled me.
I moaned, and that seemed to be what he needed to hear. He continued, on and on until I was digging my nails into his back. “Can you let me see the real you again?”
“My wings?”
“Yes.”
His eyes darkened and his body heated up. He moved even harder and faster as his large black wings released from his back.
The pleasure I was feeling before was nothing compared to what I started to feel after he transformed. I reached up and stroked one of his wings. I was hot, nearly on fire, and my vision was hazy.
He pushed me over the edge, and I thought that was it, but he didn’t stop. My body both begged for him to continue and to stop, because I wasn’t sure how much more I could take.
He pushed me over the edge again before his body shuddered, and he reached his own release.
I couldn’t speak. I didn’t have the capacity or the breath.
He lay next to me, watching me with a mix of adoration and shock. “Wow.”
“Uh… I hope that means it was good for you?”
“Amazing. I mean, I knew it would be, but I never imagined that.”
“Amazing is a good way to describe it.”
“So it was good for you too?” He ran his hand down my arm. “I didn’t hurt you?”
“I may be a little sore, but it was definitely worth it.”
“You’ll just have to get used to it.”
“Again you’re assuming I’m going to come back for more?”
“Are you going to deny it… after that?”
“No. I’m not denying anything when it comes to you.”
“Good, because if I was determined to keep you close before, that determination is even stronger now.”
“There’s one slight problem though. Or ok. Two.”
“What are they?” He left tiny kisses along my jaw line.
“I’m wide awake, and we don’t have any more condoms.”
He laughed. “We can find other ways to spend our time.”
“Yeah? Care to show me?”
“How bad would it be if I used the oral exam line?”
I laughed. “You kind of already used it.”
“I did, didn’t I?”
***
I woke up as sun streamed through the small window in Owen’s room. I snuggled deeper into his side, unwilling to face the day if it meant pulling me away from the best night of my life.
“Good morning, beautiful.”
“Good morning.” I turned to look up at him. “How long have you been up?”
“Most of the night.”
“What?” I tried to pull away, but he wrapped me up in his arms. “You couldn’t sleep?”
“I don’t need much sleep, so I watched you instead.”
“Watched me?”
“Uh huh. You’re adorable.”
“Great.” I tried to pull away again, but he rolled me on top of him. “I could really get used to waking up with you next to me.”
“I could get used to falling asleep next to you.”
“That kind of works out then.”
“More than kind of.” He kissed me gently on the lips.
“Before we do any more of that, you don’t happen to have an extra toothbrush, do you?”
“I actually do.”
“Perfect.”
“I also have plenty of soap in the shower.”
“Owen.”
“Yes?”
“Wanting to brush my teeth doesn’t mean I’m asking to shower with you.” Not that the thought of it bothered me. Owen wet. I could handle that image.
“How did you know I was implying a shower together?”
“Because of the giant smile on your face, and the bulge pressing against me.”
“We’re going to have to do some condom shopping later, but that’s not all.”
“No?”
He gently shifted me to his side. “In all seriousness, we need to slow down.”
“Uh… what?” Could he say mixed signals?
“Not in here. No. I’m not doing that, but I need to take you out for a real date.”
“What is a real date exactly?” Any date with Owen sounded good, but I was curious what he had in mind.
“One that involves dinner and something before the sex.”
“I wouldn’t mind that.” I wouldn’t mind anything with Owen, especially not if it meant he wanted to be with me.
“Good.” He brushed his lips against mine.
Loud knocking on the front door got both of our attention.
I groaned. “Do you think that’s for you or me?”
“Probably both of us.” He sighed. “I guess that means we’ll have to postpone the shower.”
“I guess so.” I reluctantly pulled myself out of bed and searched around for my clothes.
Owen handed me my panties and bra. “Hopefully I play the date well enough to get a repeat of last night.”
“I say your chances are good.” I hooked my bra.
“Like 80% good? 90%?” He stepped into his jeans.
“More like 99.9%.” I found my t-shirt on the dresser where I left it.
He walked over and pulled my tank top the rest of the way down. He was still completely naked. “Where’s the last .01%?”
“I have to give you a little bit to work for, don’t I?”
He laughed. “You’re too perfect.”
“Perfect?” I shook my head. “Not really.”
“You are whether you know it or not.” He watched as I buttoned my jeans. “Ready to face the world?”
“Aren’t you going to put a shirt on?”
“That possessive already? Don’t want me showing off my chest?”
“I’m fine with it, as long as you keep the wings for me.”
He grinned. “I might have to show them off when I’m flying once in awhile, but otherwise it’s a deal.”
“Good.”
He pulled on a navy blue t-shirt. “But that means your body is for me too.”
“I’d worry about you getting possessive, but I guess I started it.”
“You did…” He wrapped his arms around my waist. “But I’m finishing it.” His lips moved to my neck.
The knocking started again.
“All right, no more distractions.”
“Fine. I suppose they’re not going to leave until they see us.” He took my hand in his and led us to the front door.
He pulled it open, and we came face to face with the three Allures, Hailey, and Cade.
Cade grinned. “Good morning.”
“Same to you.” I didn’t bother hiding my broad smile.
Cade laughed. “Somehow I think you guys had a much better morning than us.”
“And a better night.” Owen grinned.
“Ok, enough of that.” Roland stepped toward the door. “We gave you time. It’s time to go.”
“Go?” I asked with confusion. “We can’t go yet.”
“We can’t stay long,” Violet said with a slight smile. “But we don’t have to leave this second, especially not if Owen helps us out.”
“What do you need help with?” Owen asked immediately.
“Has Daisy filled you in? Do you understand what the witch did to her?”
“I understand she still has magic in her.”
“It’s more than magic,” Hugh grumbled.
Violet gave Hugh a dirty look. “Daisy mentioned that you took her to another witch for help. Could you tell us where to find her?”
“That depends. Why do you need to find her?”
“Because we need to find Kalisa, the witch who used the magic.”
“She might be able to help me,” I added. “At least their friend seems to think so.”
