Jack gazed out to sea and saw, in the distance, a huge cloud of black smoke.
‘Okay, Jack. It’s all yours. But don’t tell anyone I let you do this.’ Foster said.
‘You got it!’ Jack took the laptop, raised it into the air and threw it as hard as he could into the ocean. He watched it sink with a satisfied smile that beamed across his face, and then, as the last of the ripples subsided, he turned to the Major. ‘What’s going to happen to Natalie?’
‘Don’t you worry about her. She’s spending a very long vacation with some new friends. They are very anxious to talk with her.’
As the Major strode away, Allie wrapped herself around Jack once more.
With the wind whipping at his hair, he turned his head to her and smiled. ‘As soon as Dad’s well enough, we’re going away.’
‘You’re leaving?’
‘Not without you,’ he said, softly kissing her lips. ‘Fancy a trip to Australia?’
‘You bet,’ she said. ‘But please tell me we’re flying.’
