Moira untangled herself from her grasp and smiled back at her. “Yes my dear, the surgery went well.”

Auburn pulled her head back so she could take in all of Moira’s face. She had been shot in the face by Tom, and had sadly lost the sight in her left eye.

“Yes I’m fine honestly, I can see you very well with my good eye.”

  “Oh.”

Oli had also stood up, but she just smiled at him, and turned to look at the third member sat there. DI Simpson also smiled and waved in her direction.

“Hi Auburn, just came along to wish you well and thank you for all you did in helping us to get that sadistic murderer.”

She smiled back at him, they now shared a dark secret but this was one she would manage to keep forever.

He stood up as Oli sat down again, and beckoned her to take his seat. “I must get back to work, I’m on duty.” He nodded to them all and left.

Auburn sat down between Moira and Stella, with Oli opposite her.

Stella poured tea. “As this is my last tea with you guys for a while I will hand you over...” she nodded to Oli.

“Oh, yes, right.” He stammered before taking a large sip of tea and beginning again. “Auburn, as you know, Freddy’s place has been rented out again, as you couldn’t stay there on your own, so I don’t know how you are fixed....” He stopped again and took another slurp of his tea. Auburn glanced up at him and frowned.

“Oh honestly, shall I carry on and ask her?” Stella questioned.

Oli nodded once and sat down.

“What dear Oliver is trying to say to you honey is that your job is still here, and as I know you don’t really want to return to Manchester with me, he would like you to come and stay with him.”

“I will have my own room, won’t I?” she blurted out.

  “Yes,” he mumbled.

“But we can have a roll in your room, but I sleep in my room alone, ok?” she happily explained, glancing at both Moira and Stella who looked shocked.

Poor Oli’s face went a bright shade of puce, while Auburn’s in contrast lit up with pure delight.

Moira put her hand on Auburn’s arm and gently squeezed it. “That’s my girl,” she whispered to her.
