“Upstairs, let me show you.” I led her upstairs to the guest bathroom. Opening up one of the draws that had the washcloths in it, I sat my glass down and ran it under warm water, handing it to her.
“Thank you.” She wiped Lily’s face and hands, making sure to get it all. “This is why I don’t dress her in white.” I couldn’t help but laugh at that.
“You believe him, right?”
“Believe who?”
“Wyatt. He didn’t invite her.”
“None of my business if he did or he didn’t. Despite my feelings about her, this is my brother’s ranch.”
“Okay, just know if he knows you have a problem with someone, even if he doesn’t know the story, he would’ve never invited her over. He isn’t the type of guy to do something out of spite.”
“My whole family and this town know the story of Victoria and I.”
“Yes, but when he is around, they tend to only talk about him.” She had a point there. “I’m sure everyone has told you to be careful with him, he has been through a lot.” I nodded and took a sip of my wine.
“Lucy told me about his ex. He knows about mine. Neither of us are looking for anything.”
“I am just gonna say this and leave it alone. It’s none of my business. He is my brother in law and I love him, but he is big enough and ugly enough to make his own choices.”
“Okay…”
“I have seen the way you both look at each other. While the guys may not be able to see it, some of us as oblivious. Just do what makes you two happy. Screw everyone else.” She walked out and left me alone, leaving me panicking about who else fucking knew there was something between Wyatt and I even if we hadn’t admitted it to each other yet. Well he had; I was yet to tell him. Kelsea said he wasn’t the type of guy to do something like this so what the fuck was he playing at? Taking a deep breath, I was about to head back downstairs when Wyatt appeared.
“Please tell me you believe me?” I closed my eyes and nodded.
“I do.”
“Good because I would never do anything to hurt or upset you, please know that.”
“I believe you but what you do is none of my business.” He took a step toward me.
“Well we both know that’s not true.”
“Is she gone?”
“Yeah, once she saw Toby was here, she left pretty quickly.” I sighed with relief and went to walk past Wyatt to go back downstairs. He lightly wrapped a hand around my arm and pulled me back to him. “I know you feel what I feel.” I pulled my arm back away from him and headed for the door. I needed a clear head, or something was going to happen that we couldn’t take back. While I was all for that, someone was going to walk in any minute and catch us. Going back to the music, the food, and our family, I would deal with Wyatt and I soon enough.
Hours later, once everyone had left for the night and the house was quiet, I had opted to stay on the ranch for the night. I couldn’t lay in bed any longer, just staring up at the roof. My mind was racing still with everything that had happened. Pulling the covers back on the bed, I put on a pair of flip flops and quietly made my way downstairs. I went to the fridge and got a bottle of water, in case anyone heard me, I had an excuse. When I was met by silence, I quietly made my way to the front door and opened it. Slipping out into the cool night air with the moonlight as my torch, I walked toward Wyatt’s cabin, knocking quietly when I reached it. It took a few minutes before he opened it up, I prayed that I hadn’t just woken him up. He went to open his mouth but not wanting to talk myself out of this or over think it, I stepped toward him, wrapping my hand around his neck and pressed my lips against his. Wyatt pulled me closer to him, wrapping his arms around me and closing the door behind us. Running his hands down to my waist, he gripped them as he lifted me up into his arms. Wrapping mine around his neck as I pressed my body against his, my breasts now touching his bare chest, the only thing in between us was my clothes and his boxers. He pulled back for just a minute.
“Are you sure about this?” I nodded.
“I don’t want to think about it. Just please…” His mouth covered mine again, a low moan escaping me as he carried me over to and then laid me down on the bed. Unwrapping myself from around him, I laid there and looked up at him. His fingers curling around the band of my shorts and underwear as he slowly pulled them from my body, dropping them down beside him. Getting down on his knees, he positioned himself between my thighs, trailing soft kisses along the inside before reaching my center. My eyes closed as I felt his tongue running along my slit before his lips curled around my nub. I couldn’t stop the moan escaping me. There was no going back now.
Wyatt
It was like a dream. Hearing the knock at the door, I half expected someone else to be on the other side. Seeing her standing there in the moonlight, her shorts and tank barely covering any of her skin, I was convinced that I was dreaming. That was until her soft lips pressed against mine and I knew it was actually happening. I broke apart just long enough to make sure she was okay with what was about to happen next because once we started, there was no stopping until she was cumming under me.
Laying her down on the bed, I undressed her slowly before positioning myself between her thighs. Running my tongue through her slick folds, flicking across her taught nub as her breathing picked up. Wrapping my arms around her, I pulled back long enough to slide two fingers inside her core. Covering her clit again with my mouth, I sucked hard as my fingers stroked her walls. I needed her to cum so that she was ready for me. I could feel her body jerking as I worked her toward her release.
Arching her back off the bed, pressing her hips toward me, I pulled back to watch her gripping the blankets. Pressing my thumb against her nub, I moved it in slow circles, her breath catching as she moaned my name.
“That’s it, baby, let me hear you.” I removed my thumb again, replacing it with my lips as I began to suck her clit once more. When her body began to shake, her hips jerking as my tongue and fingers helped her through her orgasm. Letting go of the blankets, she reached up, grabbing the pillow from the top of the bed, and cried out into it as she let go, calling out my name as she came.
Pulling my fingers from her core as she began to relax, I sucked her juices from them as she removed the pillow from her face.
“Are you on the pill?” She shook her head.
“Implant so we are covered.” I knew I probably should have put a condom on to be safe but when I fucked her for the first time, I wanted to really feel her. I wanted my dick coated in her juices as she came again. I needed it more than I needed air. Standing up, I pulled my boxers down, before moving toward her on the bed. Wrapping my hand around my dick, I moved my palm and curled fingers along the length of it, though hearing her call out my name had made me hard as a rock.
“Again, I ask, are you sure?”
“Yes! Please, Wyatt…” She whimpered. Who was I to say no? Sliding my dick inside of her, she wrapped her legs around me as my lips found hers. She didn’t seem to care that she could taste herself on me. That turned me on more. Slowly moving my hips, I pulled back so that just the tip was inside of her. Her nails dug into my back as she pulled me back in. Groaning against her lips, I slammed my hips back against hers, driving my dick deep inside her walls. Her head fell back against the bed, my name again leaving her lips. Thank god we were far away from the house because she no longer cared if she was loud or not. Neither did I for that matter.
“Fuck, Wyatt! Yes!” Our bodies worked in sync. As I filled her, she would moan and thrust her hips toward me. I could feel her walls tightening around my dick so I knew it wouldn’t be long now. I was already holding back my release until she came again. I had to know that she was taken care of again. As her body began to shake beneath me, she cried out my name again, her nails digging into my back. I sank into her one last time before letting go of my own release, holding her tighter against me. Once our bodies had relaxed, I rolled onto my back, pulling he
r with me.
“Stay with me?” When she nodded, I wrapped my arms around her and pulled her close to me, her head finding my chest. Closing my eyes, I pulled up the covers and relaxed. For the first time, in a long time, I was at peace.

The last time Adam saw Callie, she was crying and running into her house as he was being driven away from her. He’d promised to write every week and come back as often as he could, but somehow, he’d never kept those promises and now ten years had passed. If it hadn’t been for his father and his regular updates, he’d have had no idea what she’d been dealing with while he’d been gone. He also wouldn’t have known that she needed him now.
Even though he’d let so much time slip through his fingers, he’d always known he’d come back. He might have fought against the pull of their bond for longer than he cared to admit, but now it was time to face his destiny head-on and acknowledge that when it came to Callie there was nothing he wouldn’t do to help or protect her, and no way to avoid the promises he’d made all those years ago. There was no getting out of it – there was never a choice.
“You know this could go all sorts of wrong, don’t you?” Adam scuffed his boot against the loose gravel as he took another drag on his cigarette.
Simon regarded him silently, his brown eyes following each movement his best friend made.
“She’s either going to yell at me or knock me out.” Adam looked up, wishing his friend could tell him what to expect in a few hours when they pulled into Macquarie Downs and he came face to face with Callie. It had been ten years, and while they’d both grown up during that time, he was sure her feisty nature wouldn’t have changed. “We’ll just have to pray she’s not carrying something she can use as a weapon, hey?”
Simon huffed out a loud breath and nodded several times, shifting his weight between his legs. There were no words he could say to ease Adam’s uneasiness, he just knew he wanted to get moving again.
“I guess I can’t put this off any longer. As much as I think I’m putting myself in harm’s way, I know she needs me more.” Adam sounded certain of that fact as he dropped his cigarette butt to the ground and stood on it with the toe of his boot. “Okay, buddy, let’s get this show back on the road. We’ve still got a couple hundred kilometres to go until we face the music.”
Simon shook his head and started to turn away from Adam.
“Okay, okay…until I face the music.” Adam chuckled to himself as he patted Simon on the shoulder. “At least we know you’ll be safe…the girls always have a soft spot for you, no matter how much strife I get myself into.” He could have sworn he heard Simon laugh as he walked to the back of the ute. There were days when he’d love to know what he was thinking in these sorts of moments. It would make his life so much easier.
After stowing away their lunch things and taking a precautionary walk around the vehicle, Adam turned the key and they were on the road again. While he knew there was never a choice as to whether he would go back and be with Callie one day, he wished he could choose what her reaction would be when he arrived. He hoped he hadn’t left his return too late, but there was only one way to find out.
Adam wasn’t convinced he liked the idea of Callie peddling along behind him as he made his way down the long drive to wait for the school bus. It was one thing to have her shadowing him around the farm, but keeping an eye on her on the way to and from school was something totally different. He’d made friends since starting at this school last year, and the last thing he wanted was Callie hanging around like a little sister. She wasn’t, but he’d seen how the other boys had treated Shane’s younger sister last year and he didn’t want Callie to bear the brunt of that sort of teasing.
He could tell that the little bell on her handlebars was gradually jingling from further and further behind him, so he stopped to wait for her to catch up. When he saw her, he had to stop himself from bursting out laughing. There she was, head down, elbows out, and peddling furiously in an attempt to keep up with him. Her backpack full of books and supplies was bigger than her little body, and her broad-brimmed hat looked like it might drag her off like a kite in the breeze at any moment.
“Hurry up, slow poke!” Adam called out. “If we’re not at the gate on time they’ll leave without us!” He didn’t want to ride back up to the houses to find his mum to drive them to school. She’d be furious.
When Callie looked up at him, he saw the red flushed cheeks he was used to seeing when she was pushing herself. He wasn’t expecting to see her big blue eyes nearly brimming over with tears though, and he instantly regretted being cross with her.
“I’m…trying…as hard…as I…can,” she puffed out, still peddling as hard as her little legs could. “I…can’t go…as fast…as you…Adam.”
In that moment, watching her desperately willing her bike to go faster, he realised he would always help her. This little girl, with big blue eyes and a mop of blonde curls, would only have to ask and he’d move heaven and earth to make her life easier. Recognising that he’d set off at his usual pace without considering that Callie wouldn’t be able to keep up, no matter how hard she tried, hit Adam like a punch to his stomach. He had to fix this…quickly.
“Stop for a second,” he said as she caught up.
“But-”
“It’s okay, we’ve got a couple seconds,” he assured her.
As Callie stopped her bike, she nearly fell over; her legs were wobbly after working so hard. She made several swipes at the tears
in her eyes as she tried to catch her breath.
“Jeez, your bag looks extra heavy. What did you and Mum pack in there?” Adam asked.
“Just the things on the list, I promise.” She looked up at him. “Oh, and my lunch, and a drink.”
“Well, it’s just as well we don’t to take everything back and forth to school every day then, isn’t it?” he joked.
“Don’t we?” Callie sounded surprised.
“Nope. Just on the first and last day of the term. Otherwise we only bring home what we need for homework and leave the rest at school,” he explained.
Callie thought for a moment. “So, I’ll only have a heavy bag like this a few times a year?”
“Yep.”
“I can do that.” She seemed instantly relieved. Obviously, she’d been thinking she’d have to struggle like this every day.
Adam had a flash of brilliance. “And since today is your first day, and you’ve worked so hard already, I’ll carry your bag the rest of the way to the road,” he offered.
“Really?” she questioned. When Adam nodded, she quickly slipped her arms through the straps of her backpack and handed it to Adam. Before he had his arms through the straps and the bag positioned against his chest, Callie had her bike upright again and was ready to set off. “Well, we’d better hurry then,” she called out as she started peddling. “We don’t want to miss the bus.”
With that, their first school crisis was averted and she giggled the rest of the way down the drive. Adam made sure to peddle more slowly and let Callie reach the road first. As he was chaining their bikes to the gate post, he could hear the bus approaching in the distance. Even if he couldn’t, he would have known it was coming because Callie squealed with excitement the moment she saw it come around the corner.
