Burning Obsession Page 10

by Rice, Rachel E.

As she continued to gaze into Alan’s eyes she was oblivious to the ringing of the phone. Alan placed Sydney in the room on a chaise lounge looking out over the Las Vegas landscape. Sydney stood with her mouth ajar. The scenery was breath taking. She had never seen such beautiful flowers and such opulence. Paintings of the great masters, French furniture that she was sure Marie Antoinette had lounged on during her reign of terror and eventually met her end. Sydney wandered into the bedroom to see a bed fit for a king or better yet a queen.

Alan walked to the phone, “I thought I told you to hold all calls.”

“Alan, this is Nadia. You have to call off your honeymoon. I need you in New York, ASAP. These papers I reminded you of have to be signed soon as possible. You have to transfer the money now.”

“For God’s sake Nadia, can’t you take care of that?”

“I hate to come between you and that woman that every man seems to want, but I need those papers you had Sydney sign. Need I remind you that you are broke. All those dam hotels and women has been your downfall. Look, I saved your ass once by introducing you to Sydney, and I took some of Jeremy’s money to finance that white elephant you have in Las Vegas. With all the hotels, and in this economy, why would you build one in Vegas? Why would you want one more hotel?

“Nadia…” Alan tried to stop her tirade, but to no avail.

“It’s both our asses. I don’t want to lose Jeremy. Do you want to lose Sydney?”

“Don’t talk like that. I’m not losing anything. I’ll do what ever I have to do.”

Alan hung the phone up and turned to see Sydney watching his face.

“Am I always going to have to share you with everyone?” Sydney questioned knowing the answer.

“I have some bad news for you. I have to leave...now.”

  “Oh no Alan. Why?”

“I won’t be long, maybe a few hours. I have to fly to New York. I’ll return before you retire for bed.” He pulled Sydney’s body close, his body anticipating a night of sexual bliss. A breathless longing settled over his body, a longing for her warm body to caress his manhood. She is a means to calm him, relieve the anxiety of his job and the loss of his fortune. He gave her a heated kiss as he tried to warm his cold hands.

As Alan prepared to leave the apartment, the phone rang. He stopped, looked back, Sydney picked up the phone, and Alan continued out the door and closed it behind him.

  Two Hours Later

After Jeremy exited the room Danny rushed to the phone. “Jeremy is no longer here, please come back.”

“I don’t think I should.” Sydney prayed that Nicholas would convince her to return. But what reason would a married woman have to go to her lover’s room. Maybe someone would report to Alan. It was all too dangerous to make a return trip. Who would know, questioned Sydney. How would anyone find out if she casually stepped out again? What does Nicholas want? Sydney knew what he wanted, but she couldn’t give it to him now. Had he declared earlier that he loved her and needed her it would have been easy for her to place her body and soul in his keeping. It was different now.

“I have something for the children. Please come. I promise you that if you want to leave I will not stop you and no one will disturb what I have to say to you.” Danny felt the silence through the phone. He felt his heart quicken and wondered if Sydney could hear his heart lose its rhythm waiting for her answer.

  “I’m coming,” Sydney stated quickly.

Did her quick response mean that she wanted him as much as he wanted to see her and be with her, or did that mean that she wanted to rid herself of him as fast as she could? Sydney had always been an enigma. Danny could never get a handle on what made her tick. Just when he thought she was one way, she surprised him, and acted completely different. Was she coming to make him want her so much that he would murder Alan just to have her again? Was she coming to him to make him lose his mind as she had done once before? Was she coming to him to love him and never leave him? All the questions floated through Danny’s mind. Whatever reason she had to see him, he made up his mind that she would be his tonight.

As Danny’s mind covered possibilities of having Sydney again even if it is for a night, he had to know what he was doing. Did he know how to approach her? What ever it took, he would do it. He didn’t care any longer about nothing or no one but his family. He wanted his family back.

The bell rang, he walked slowly to the door thinking and planning quickly. Sydney’s heart throbbed; her body ached for another sexual encounter with Nicholas. But how could she? She was a married woman. She had just married a handsome Frenchman who is rich beyond her wildest dreams. Yet she wasn’t impressed with the money. She wanted a man that would love her and love her children. She had always been lucky in that arena. Every man she had met in her glorious past loved her children, but was obsessive about her. He had been too busy before his accident to give her the attention she needed from him.

Sydney never had time to gauge the type of man Nicholas is because he came into her life quickly and left as fast. Now he’s here on her wedding night and she has agreed to meet him in his room. And what a coincidence that he got a suite under her penthouse. What kind of man is this, she wondered. He appeared so familiar but it was as if she had never known this type before. His body resembled Danny’s body but it had tattoos on his chest and arms.

Tattoos to cover the scars left by the plane crash.

Danny would cringe if she even suggested that he get a tattoo. Yet, it was that tattooed body that turned her on. It was that body that summoned her on her wedding day to his room and made her forget that she was married. It was that way he made her body tingled that reminded her of Danny. Was she chasing his ghost? Was she ever going to forget Danny?

She had finally made peace with her feelings for Danny. She had finally forgotten him, but now she had Nicholas to forget and that is why she rang his bell. She was trying to forget Nicholas. She thought that if she could say goodbye she could get on with her life. Besides, she knew little of him except that he cried when he saw her children. Was he crying because he loved her and he could not accept her children, she thought? Was he crying because he didn’t know how to tell her that he wanted her but not her children? Well now was the time she could ask him and run back to her apartment before anyone knew she had gone.

  “Hello.”

“Hello back,” Danny said walking close to Sydney and staring at her. She looked at him with curiosity.

“I never knew that your eyes were green. In the sunlight they look green instead of brown.”

  “Oh, I have on contacts.”

“Let me see,” she leaned in to him. “They don’t look like contacts.” Sydney raised her hand to Danny’s face and he pulled her close and kissed her. The kiss was bliss, full of passion as the heat meandered through her body and all she could do was forget. She could not pull away from his body and the kiss went on for minutes, swirling in her mouth and caressing her tongue, for what seemed like hours. The pleasure from that kiss gave her an experience that she once had and now she had it back again. It woke a presence inside of her, and an intoxication that she could not explain that left her drunk.

The desire to be near Sydney’s body awakened every sensual experience that any man could hope for. Her brown eyes and tan body weakened his resolve. Weakened his manhood and he could feel through her dress everything that he desired. Sydney felt in that moment his nature coming to meet her through the thin veil of a dress. If she did not pull away from him, she would find her dress and body stained from the heat of both their passion.

Sydney violently thrust her arm between them, pushing Danny away. “Why are you doing this to me Nicholas? What did I do to deserve this rape of my will?”

“You are the woman I love and I will always love. You don’t know how much I have wanted you and have to have you. You don’t know what pain I in to know that you married someone else and know that you will lay with another man.”

  “Why are you doing
this to me now? You had your chance to make things right but you didn’t.” Sydney grasps her body with her arms and turned away looking at the panoramic view of the Las Vegas strip.

“I’m trying to do it now,” Danny said standing behind her.

“Now is too late.” Sydney turned looking for the door, and dashed across the room.

“Don’t leave me. I have to tell you…” It was too late. Sydney ran out of the door leaving it open and headed for the elevator.

Sydney sobbed as she headed for her apartment. What did he want to tell me she thought? What could he have to say to me now? The exhaustion from the marriage, Alan leaving and Nicholas was too much for her. She closed the door to her bedroom and in peaceful surroundings lay across the bed.

Below her was the only living man she has ever wanted since Danny. She could feel his desire, she could feel his kiss, she could feel his pain, and she could feel his penis throbbing on her body. All she ever desired she left there in that room.

Danny sat on the sofa with his head down and hands crossed in front of him and stared at the wall. He had his chance to tell her who he really was and yet, he didn’t act quickly enough. What was he to do? Risk going to Alan’s penthouse, pound on the door, until she answered it? What else could he do if he was to have his wife and children before she consummated her marriage to Alan Brule? How could he get her to open the door? For some reason Steven’s name entered his head and he picked up the phone.

“Steven… can you come to my room?”

  “When?”

  “Now!”

“What’s the matter, Danny? Having trouble again?”

“I can’t tell you yet. Just come now.”

“OK, give me a second to put a shirt on.”

Before Danny could look out over the strip, Steven rang the bell. Steven couldn’t hide his excitement. He knew that there would be good fodder for the gossip papers and maybe he could sell some photos and make some extra money. “Who would believe that Nicholas Grant is Danny McCloud? Who would believe it?” Steven said pacing and looking for his lucky pink linen and silk shirt.

Danny knew that Steven had this nature of gossiping and the only time he held his tongue was because he didn’t have enough evidence to present to Sydney and there had to be a bigger story and a bigger payday.

“Come in; don’t stand out there looking like Christmas decoration. I have a job for you.”

Steven cast a glance at Danny. He didn’t like the crack about his shirt. His suspicious nature knew there was more to the story.

“I need you to go to Sydney’s penthouse and get her to open the door.”

  “Why?’

“You have to help me Steven. I need to tell her that I’m Danny before Alan returns.”

“She’s going to be pissed with me.” Steven began pacing.

  “Think of my children.”

“I can’t get on that floor, but I can get her to come to my room. What do you think?”

“Do what ever you can, but do it soon!”

“Where’s the phone?” Danny pointed. “What’s the number?”

Danny hurried to the phone and dialed the number for Steven. Then he held the phone in the air for a reluctant Steven, who slowly moved in its direction and snatched it from Danny.

  “Sydney, this is Steven.”

“What do you want Steven? I’ve had a trying day and Alan left to go to New York on the day we are married…how did you find me?”

“That’s not hard for me. Guess what… I’m in Las Vegas.”

  “You are what?”

“In Vegas. You know the land of the midnight sun.”

“That’s Alaska not Las Vegas. Oh Steven, I’m so glad you are here. Why don’t you come to my room?”

“No, I don’t want to be near such luxury. I wouldn’t have the heart to go back to my drab little room. Get dress so we can go into the casino. Wear something sexy it’s always good to look sexy especially when your husband isn’t around.”

“Steven, you never change. You’re always looking for the next piece of gossip.”

“Who knows, you may find that you made a mistake marrying that man. You know what they say, if it is too good to be true it probably is…or something like that.”

  “What’s your room number?”

  “2020”

“I’ll be there in an hour.”

  One Hour Later

Sydney on time knocked on the door at precisely the time she said. Earlier Danny arranged for Steven to get lost with a little money to keep him happy. Once again he had to tell her, and this time there couldn’t be any mistakes. Danny’s chest rang aloud from anticipating her arrival, and finally she was standing there in front of the door. Would she run this time? Should he grab her and corner her to prevent her?

He knew that he had to let Sydney make up her mind otherwise she would resent him for trying to prevent her from doing what she wanted. She was just that sort, a strong independent minded woman who never wanted any man to rein her in. She had to discover everything herself.

Slowly opening the door, and then quickly, he stood silent. Their eyes locked.

  “Are you angry?”

“I’m not angry at you, I’m angry at Steven. Once again he would do anything to get a payday. How much did you have to pay him for this?”

“That’s not important. Will you come in? I told you that I have something for the children.”

Sydney’s face softened, and a smile crept across her tan face. Danny stared at her as if seeing her for the first time. “Please come in and sit for a moment. You aren’t doing anything but waiting for that man.”

“That man as you pointed out is my husband.”

“Well I apologize, but I know that you haven’t consummated the marriage. You haven’t had time to do that.”

“What is this about Nicholas? Did you get me here to tell me that I haven’t fucked my husband yet? Well I have, I fucked him when I first met him.” Sydney lied because she wanted to hurt Nicholas. She lied because she wanted to make him jealous; the way Danny had been when he thought another man wanted her. She was use to Danny showing his emotions and she couldn’t fathom why it was taking Nicholas so long to reveal how much he felt for her.

On her last fuck word she finally saw a change in his face and he pulled her to him and kissed her. She heard his breath quickened and she heard him whisper, “You shouldn’t talk that way it doesn’t become you. You’re mine. I want you. I want you now! You are the love of my life! Don’t you know that?”

Before she could think he whisked her into his arms and rushed her to the bed pulling the covers and the sheets back, placing her on the bed, as her head whirled, while she tried to control her emotions. She forgot that she had just married Alan, she forgot that she was not single, she forgot everything and everybody for the handsome stranger she had only known for months and would have given up everything for him, except her children.

At that moment, she wanted to run away with him and never have to face the world again. She saw in his eyes that they were one and anything that happens tonight would be at her agreement.

The huge silence permeated throughout the small room. The beat of the lovers’ hearts jarred each one and they began to kiss. The kiss was hard, the breathing was hard, and loud, the feeling was soft and full of lust. He caressed her hair, he kissed her forehead and once again peered into her eyes and she gazed into his.

Sydney remembered that she had wondered about his eyes. Now they were brown and maybe she had made a mistake about the color. As Danny began to remove his shirt, the lights from the strip provided a spotlight onto the bed. She had only felt his body when they first met and had their sexual encounter, but now she saw his entire body. The body of a young handsome strong man, who wanted to love her the way she had once been loved by her beloved Danny.

It was that night in Danny’s house that brought back the feeling of familiarity. Feelings that she had known this man, but how could she let this cloud
her mind when she had to consider other things. Like her marriage to Alan. Even that had to be put to the back of her mind because she refused to even consider the outcome. Sydney was lost in the moment and willing to give up what she thought was a wonderful handsome man for what may be a two-night stand.

“I’m probably making the mistake of a lifetime.”

As Danny kissed her breast, he raised his head, “Is this your first mistake? I don’t see it as a mistake.” And he continued kissing her breast. She looked down at his full dark hair. She threaded her fingers through it, then she helped him take off her pants, and pulled off the little string throng that she wore, which concealed nothing.

“Love me Sydney, as I love you. Give yourself to me and you won’t regret it.” Danny couldn’t contain himself. He began to kiss her legs and watched her, her head leaning back, her mouth open as she begged for more. Then he stopped and lay on his back.

Sydney as if following an orchestration of a dance routine moved with the rhythm of his body, and turned over and moved down his body and began to massage his penis and then thrust it into her mouth. He watched as she discovered it was as if they choreographed a dance routine. His body moved up and down and her mouth and head moved with him.

She peered at him and still the feeling of knowing this body came to her once more. And suddenly he raised her head and turned her on her back, opened her legs and placed himself there once more and began to pleasure her. She hadn’t had that feeling in years, since Danny last lay with her. Overcome with heat, she said, “Where have you been all my life?”

He didn’t answer, and when she screamed with pleasure and he climbed on her hot sensual body and the life of him flowed into her and onto the bed, he said as he looked into her eyes, “In the jungles of Brazil.”

Sydney didn’t register the answer to the question. She paused in the throes of sexual pleasure. She sat up and asked, “What did you say?”
