  “See for yourself, Dr. Kell.”

Thomas blinked and turned to look at the jungle. He expected her to come walking out like Pixie had done.

“I will send you to her,” Adam said. “I’ll give you a lift. This part of your journey is over.”

The scene faded around him and Thomas found himself standing in his apartment. He thought at first that it was a vision. He reached down and touched the couch. He touched his own chest to be sure he was still in one piece. Thomas stepped out toward the kitchen. “Eve?”

Eve stepped out of her room and blinked. “What are you doing here?”

“Hard to explain, but it’s all over for now. We won, I think,” Thomas said.

She ran to him and he wrapped his niece up in a hug. “I was scared. All the signals went down. The city went crazy. I just stayed inside.”

“That was the right move on your part. Pixie is deactivated, along with most of the rest of the androids in the world. We still need to get Jeffery back from Brazil.”

Eve let him go. “Okay, as soon as the Internet comes back on, I can get started. But, Uncle Tommy, why do you smell like flowers?”

Thomas shook his head. “I don’t even know how to explain. Let’s get something to eat first.”

As they walked toward the kitchen, Thomas heard sirens in the distance and he wondered what was going to become of the world.
