Robert packed his bag and was a little disappointed when Loren didn’t call. Maybe she invited the lawyer to her family outing. The outing was for two days and nights. Robert didn’t want to disappoint Loren’s father. The location that they would be staying in will be five hours away. What he do when he face he? Did she still want him there? He knew that his friend Steve thought that Loren likes him. He went to a gas station and bought some coffee and some package doughnuts. Robert would have rather had homemade breakfast, but this would have to do.
Loren called many times, but she didn’t have the strength to dial the last number. She wanted to know if he still coming. She wanted him to come to the retreat. They were supposes to be staying in one of the cabins with another couple. She knew that Robert needed a chance to get himself together. In London he told her that he loved her and never brought it up again. Maybe last night was the same thing she thought to herself. She stopped at the gas station to get some coffee. She saw someone that looked like Robert just leaving the station. She didn’t to make one unscheduled stop at a fast food restaurant to get herself some breakfast.
Robert mind was strictly on Loren. He kept repeated the words in his head that he was single. He didn’t know what that all means, but he knows that Loren would be a part of that. The trip normally took five hours to get there. He took three and a half. He arrived expecting to see Loren, but she hasn’t arrived yet. There was a note on the table from the Anderson saying; they had to leave early and couldn’t stay that Loren and Robert had the place to themselves. He was happy about that, but he was sad at that too. What if Loren only wanted to be his friend?
Loren was deeply saddened about Robert leaving. She was about to fix him breakfast that morning when she realize he wasn’t there. It had always been Robert she knew now. The one she couldn’t have. The more and more she saw him the more she discovered new things about him that just became a part of her. She wasn’t in any rush to get to the cabin because she would have to see the most sensual couple. The Anderson who was her cousin been married for fifteen years. After fifteen years they couldn’t keep their hands off each other. It was like watching two teenagers going at it time and time again. The last time she went with someone it was with Thomas. He didn’t fit in. Neither did he try. All her male cousin was super mascularin and they thought that Thomas was a little too soft for their taste. In secret she thought so too. That really was the straw that broke the camel’s back. Instead of taking five hours she took six and a half hours to get there.
Robert was going crazy. He thought to himself what if she doesn’t show up. He was glad that the Anderson didn’t show up. He only met her cousins once and knew that they would be in their bedrooms all night long and if Loren wasn’t going to be here. He would find away to get out of the whole thing. He turns on the television he found that it was a terrible storm that was about to hit. That it was already hitting close to where he lived. Just when he thought maybe Loren was caught in the storm he hears the sound of a car pulling in the driveway. Robert rushes to the window to see it was Loren after all.
After she pulls up the driveway of the cabin she gets a phone call. The phone call was from her father saying that at the last minute that they had to cancel the retreat because of a heavy rainstorm that was headed the way of the cabin. Loren didn’t notice that car that was in the driveway was Robert. She thought to herself great she would be stuck with the horny Anderson. Once she got out of the car she see the cabin door opens and see Robert coming out of the cabin. She couldn’t believe that he was here. He ran and gave her a hug.
“I thought you were caught in the storm.” Robert said after he let go of her.
“My father just told me that the storm is headed our way. Is the Anderson here? Is there enough food?” Loren said becoming conscious of the real situation that they found themselves in.
“The Anderson left a note saying they arrived there in the morning, but their babysitter said their son was sick so they went back home. I guess it would be just you and me. If that would be alright?” Robert said trying to see if she was sad that she would be suck with him.
“Of course it would be alright. I am just glad that I didn’t end having to hear my cousin getting it on. It wouldn’t be so bad if they was quiet about it, but they are always playing Marvin Gay’s “Let’s Get it On.” Plus Carey is a screamer. And we don’t need that.”
“No we don’t.” Robert smiled as he got Loren’s bags out of the car.
After Robert reassured Loren that it would be enough food in the kitchen he left her alone. He wanted to talk about the other night. He wanted to tell her he didn’t leave her house because of her. In all honesty he left her house because of him. She needed someone that could be more than at this moment of his life he could be. How could he tell her that? He wanted to be her everything. He wanted to wake up smelling her scent around him. He wanted to be that guy. He was turned to the window when Loren walked in. He couldn’t turn around to face her not now.
He left her alone a lot longer than she would have liked. She could hear the wind getting louder as she got closer to Robert. It was if God himself was warning her about something she would soon find out. Then she heard it kind of bump on the rooftop. She could tell that Robert was lost in thought. Maybe he is still grieving over his wife. She knew from what Maria told her about herself that she was a very jealous person, but maybe that was the woman he liked. She heard of many man like crazy women. She walks over to him and tap him on the shoulder. He turns around.
He could hear the wind getting louder earlier as if God was telling him not to think the thoughts he was about Loren. He slowly prayed in his head when he saw what she was working. Robert thought to himself that he never seen her in shorts before. Her legs was longer than he could remember the night that she open the door with nothing, but her panties. Strange enough he thought her sexier in that moment. He knew moments like this in the movies was about two people being stuck in a place all by themselves and end up in bed. He knew that wasn’t going to happen even if he had to lock himself up for the night. When he decide to do or should we say pop the question he wanted to give himself completely to her.
“I don’t think I ever saw you in a pair of shorts before.” Robert said.
“No, you haven’t seen me in shorts. I am hungry what is there to eat anyway? The only thing I ate was some breakfast sandwich. I wish I would have thought to get something on the way here. But I didn’t.” Loren covered the sound of her stomaching rumbling.
Loren ran in the kitchen as she running a race. She didn’t know what got over her. She pulled out a bread and some peanut butter. She made her two sandwiches. Her hunger wasn’t satisfied. Robert watched her amused as she torn through those sandwiches. She didn’t care. Right when she finished the last sandwich Robert started to look in the refrigerator.
“Before you start to eat anything can you wait at least thirty minutes so I could fix you some real food?” Robert said.
“I am so sorry. I don’t know what came over me? No, I’ll lied. I didn’t eat anything, but coffee and one sandwich. Yes, I could wait so you could fit dinner.” Loren with an underline something that she could tell that he knew what she meant.
Loren was really starting to think that God was testing her. She thought this was the worst situation to be in. She is trying to give Robert his space, but the problem is that really bad storms make her horny. Being a lone with Robert was never the problem. She could control herself. The wind blew heavy and the rain started to bang up against the roof. She wanted to be more of an adult about the situation, but she couldn’t. The harder the rain bounces against the roof the more she was excited. It didn’t help matter that Robert wanted to talk. All Loren wanted to do was going to her room.
Robert knew the evening was turning out good until it rained harder. Loren had gotten a look in her eyes like she was scared of something. He wanted to comfort her w
ith gentle words, but all she wanted to do is go to her room. Maybe he did too much by having candle light. He felt that he was always doing something wrong around her. He try to talk about subject he know that she keep talking about. All he notice her doing is looking at her bedroom.
“Loren, I know rain always make me sleepy. Are you tried? I notice that you keep looking at your room.” Robert said wanted to know if it was him that she was running away from and not the weather.
“Rain doesn’t do that to me. I really am not tried. I just have to go in my room for a minute or at least until the rain stop raining so hard.” Loren said looking at the direction of her room.
“That’s strange most people want to be in open space when it is raining. If you like I could go with you and keep you company.” Robert said in a flicker of hope.
Loren thought about it. She could remember one night before Thomas had broke up that it was raining almost as hard as this storm. She remembers throwing him against the wall almost taking off all his clothes until one of her friend’s came into the room. She didn’t want to be in a bedroom with Robert. She was scared that she would take off all his clothes and having sex with him. She didn’t want that. She didn’t want something she knew wouldn’t probably last. She wanted a real relationship with him. She didn’t want quick satisfaction. She wanted love. She wanted the kind of love that feels like a comforter on a winter’s day. She wanted that feel of laundry against her skin right out of the dryer kind of love. What she had enough of was lust.
“No thank you. I just wanted to be alone. If you don’t mind?” Loren said then she rushes to her bedroom.
Loren immediately takes out her two bibles and turns to I Corinthians 6: 12 – 20 in the NIV version. She kept reading the eighteen verse where it talks about what she is doing right now. Normally she would be taking a pillow and putting in between her legs, but instead she prayed. She prayed that God would give her the strength to go back out there and let nothing be wrong like her jumping him.
Robert was sad about her leaving to her bedroom. He thought that maybe it was him that was causing her to in her bedroom. He hated how he was now. It was like the death of Maria left him insecure with himself. He wasn’t himself. He question everything. Why was his marriage base on a lie for ten years? What was it about Loren that got under his skin? Right when was going to ask himself some more questions Loren came out of her bedroom. She got a book out and sat next to him.
“Sorry about that I remembered that I had to pray. I also needed to read the bible.” Loren explained.
“So when it rains heavily you needed to pray and read the bible? Ok, I will go for that for right now. Are you sure it’s not me?”
“Robert it isn’t you. I promise you it is all me. If it had been you I would let you know.”
Loren was happy that after she came into the room the rain died down. She knew God must have heard her prayers. They watch on TV that storm was around them, but in the area that they were in it was sunny the next day. They shared a booked together. They both took turns reading a chapter at a time. It was nice they both thought to their selves. The next morning Loren cooked the only thing that she know how to cook from her mother was her homemade biscuits which she got the recipe from her brother. She was glad for the fruit. She wanted to give up something in her life that she didn’t want to. She decided to give up coffee. She knew it would be hard, but she thought to herself that it was worth it. Loren felt like she needed a change. She didn’t need to change everything about herself just something. She wanted to be that person that was already to go. She knew that she was starting a new job. She wanted to cook Robert something to tell him that she was starting a new job.
Robert was always aware of himself around her. He made sure he didn’t come out of his room without his shirt on. He needed to tell her that he was starting to work at the restaurant that Chris own. He came up with the decision to but a hold on the writing for a little while. He needed rediscover who he was again. He wasn’t sure if it was the person he was when his former wife was there. Normally anytime he had been around Loren she would have made coffee, but it was another smell that woke him up out of his dream about her and it was her biscuits. The smell of fresh bread in the morning made his stomach growl with hunger. She had on a peach sundress with a plastic lily in her hair. He watched her move through the kitchen.
Loren felt like she was being watch so she turned around to see Robert looking at her from a distance. There was so many words to say that she would have said if it wasn’t for the sound of a car pulling in the driveway. She had a feeling she knew who it was. The Anderson. She watches Robert opens the door. Just like she guess it was the Anderson with there three children. She thought to herself just great. Now she know she wasn’t going to get any where with telling Robert about her new job with the amount of people that are now coming in the house. She wished they would have came after breakfast. She didn’t want to have to feed all of those children. She knew if the Anderson was here than her family retreat would be back on schedule. Right when she knew why they were both there, there was a change in the plan. A part of Loren was happy and another part was sad because that part of her that was sexually attracted to only her would be put in check. She didn’t want one moment of lust and passion to mess up what she needed from him. Which was a real relationship.
Carey Anderson knew that her husband Tyler just interrupted something that was going to turn into something major. Carey was glad that she got back in the time that she gotten back. When they were driving they came in the opposite direction as Loren and Robert. But she looked while her husband Tyler was driving and saw a storm headed right behind them. So if she wanted to turn around they couldn’t. She was stopping at he cabin first so they could drop the children at the cabin that was run by two women and two men in their family. Carey wanted to know what is up with Robert. She was going to make her husband drop off the children while she finds up what’s up with her life.
Tyler knew from being married to his wife for thirteen years that his wife got that look in her eye like I need to talk to Loren alone and take Robert. He told Robert to go with him while he dropped off the children and Robert agreed. Tyler kindly explain that his wife need to talk to Loren about something.
“What is going on with you lately Loren?” Cary asked after she saw the men driving off in the car.
“What do you mean?” Loren said with a worry look in her eyes,
“What do I mean? What do I mean? For almost five months you haven’t call me. What about two years ago you brought Thomas? What happen to Thomas? Tell me the truth what is going on with my best friend and cousin?” Carey said.
“There been so much going on with me. I don’t know if I should trust my emotions. Thomas, you know we broke up. We continue to be friends. Thomas isn’t the real issue.” Loren said.
“Then what is the ‘real’ issue?”
“Robert. He told me when I was in England that he love me.”
“Isn’t Robert married? Or did that change?” Carey wanted to ask before getting upset.
“No, Robert isn’t married anymore. His wife died three weeks ago.” Loren said.
“But he is here with you? Do you want know who I always thought Robert was since I saw the picture of him? I thought he was the boy you used to write to. Loren, I know you and you have been struggle with making a move on him since you met him. Maybe God is giving you a second chance on love with this guy.” Carey said.
“Maria, his former wife told me before they got married that it was a good chance of meeting him at that time and she blocked me. And I don’t think he is the guy I used to write to.”
“You want to know what I say show him the picture. See what he has to say about it.” Carey said with slight smile.
“And what would that do really? Let’s say that Robert is somehow Chestnut Brown. What would that prove? I wouldn’t
change how I feel about him at all you think that world would be right if he knew. Lets see he just lost his wife.”
“I bet you that you were the first person he told. He probably found a way to stay at your house.”
“How did you know?” Loren said amazed.
“Even if I didn’t see a picture of him I saw you and him that night he took you dancing. It is the way he looks at you. The way he held you when you and him danced.” Carey said in a know it all kind of way.
“Remember Robert and I have a dance class together. That’s all.”
“It was raining really hard. Did you stay in the same room as him?”
“No, but you know I get horny when storms hit.” Loren said to her cousin.
“No, you get horny when you by someone you like and storms come. There is something so right with the two of you. I bet you he is your husband. He has a kind of soul-mate feel to him. Just watch next year you and him will be getting married,” Carey said while starting to cook.
Tyler and Robert just drop the children off the cabin. Tyler asked Robert if he wanted to have a drink with him somewhere. Robert agreed. Robert knew that he wanted to be apart of Loren’s life so he might as well know her family.
“I wanted to give the girls time to talk.” Tyler said.
“What do think they need to talk about?” Robert said after they sat down at the bar.
“You of course. I am guessing that you really became part of Loren’s life around five months ago.”
“Yes, but how did you know that. I mean that I knew Loren for years, but recently we have gotten close.”
“Do want to know how I knew? My wife have talking about how her cousin having get in contact with her. You are in love with her, but aren’t you married?” Tyler said.
“Well, I thought that Loren only talked to Jason, I guess I am wrong about that too. My wife died almost a month ago. I guess it didn’t hit me yet. If we were telling the truth I think that I loved her the first time I saw her. Just with her being in the room she changed me.” Robert said after he ordered a soda.
