Ready to try ghost pepper pickles yourself?

  Here is Anthony’s original recipe!

1 jar (I used an empty salsa jar — it shouldn’t be too big)

  1 cucumber

1 ghost pepper (If ghost peppers are too hard to find, the Carolina Reaper or Trinidad Scorpion. They can be fresh or dried.)

  1 clove of garlic

  1 tablespoon sugar

  2 teaspoons salt

1/2 cup of vinegar (Anthony does 1/4 cup of white vinegar and 1/4 cup of apple cider vinegar but you can do it any way you like — all white, or all apple cider to be sweeter.)

  1/2 cup of water

Heat the water, vinegar, salt, and sugar until it starts to boil.

Stir until the sugar and salt are dissolved. Turn off heat and wait five minutes.

While you wait, cut the cucumber into slices as thick or thin as you like.

For the ghost pepper, cut it into quarters and use however many pieces based on the heat level you want. 1/4 pepper = already too much for Magnolia. 1/2 pepper = will melt the makeup off Milton Creed. Whole pepper = just right for Anthony but might kill you.

Place the cucumber slices and ghost pepper into the jar. Pour the hot (but not boiling) vinegar mixture over them.

Close the lid and leave in your fridge for at least one week. Don’t unscrew the lid until it’s ready!
