The Rise of the Watchman Page 5

by G Oldman

Daniel returned to the police station with a copy of the official report. It recorded that there was an older wound in one of the men that was consistent with the shot Daniel had fired at the Jewelers crime scene. He presented the official version to Captain Miller.

"Captain, I don't think these guys could have been acting alone. Neither of them seem very bright. Someone had to have been directing them."

Daniel's thoughts raced while he was talking to Captain Miller. Controlling. Could that be possible? That these guys were being remotely controlled? That would be freaky.

"Interesting. But one of the guys was the one you had shot earlier?"

  "It appears so Captain."

"And you don't have any proof that there was anyone else involved? Nothing was actually missing from the safe. If we don't get anything else, I think we mark this case closed. Any idea of who these guys were?"

"We matched fingerprints at the scene with the one I shot multiple times. Neither are in our system. We are reaching out to the feds to see if they have any information on these guys. They'd no id and nothing in their clothing that can be used to figure out who they are. They are listed as John Doe One and Two."

The captain just nodded. "If you find out any more, let me know. For now, I think we have our guys. The chief wants this closed. Thanks Sergeant."

Corgan returned to his desk and finished out his paper work. He created a second private file with the additional information he kept from the police report. As he was typing, he heard two officers chatting at their desk.

"You heard about Spaulding? She is at it again."

"You have to be kidding me? She is still seeing conspiracies at every corner? What was her thing? Mouth jammers or something? Damn, she was a fine detective. I guess she snapped after what happened to Sulley. Then she just snapped. I mean, I get it. I'm not sure I could do better, but I am just glad we don't have to deal with her crap any more."

"She was a bit intense before she was let go. That poor woman did snap. Rumor has it that she is running a private eye service. Damn, from police to taking pictures of cheating husbands. That has to be a let down."

  "You know it man."

Daniel turned to see who was talking, but the two had rounded the corner before he could spot them. He would have to look into that at some point. For now, he still had to wrap up this case before his captain wrapped it up for him.
