“Good morning, Anna.” The master’s voice sounded muffled in her ears. “I hope you slept well.”

She tried to respond but no words came out, just another weak groan.

“That’s all right, my dear, don’t talk. The High Sage believes that you could be a threat to yourself and others so we have drugged you.”

The man in orange leaned over her. “She doesn’t look well,” he stated. There was no kindness in his voice.

“She is fine,” said the master. “We’ll keep her drugged and drain off as much blood as we want. I assure you, we’ll keep her alive. By then, the king will have an army—that will be loyal to me. Then I will put myself on the throne. It’s what my people want.”

  “Don’t forget our deal.”

“Don’t worry, Eichmann, you will have what I promised.”

The door closed with a bang and Anna flinched. Help! her mind screamed and then through the haze, she remembered the hell dogs. In desperation, she tried to call the two black dogs like she did in the forest, but what were their names…

In frustration, Anna slumped to the floor and tears rolled uncontrollably down her cheeks, leaving lines down her dirty face.

  She was alone again.

  And she was afraid.
