“I’m glad. Especially since you’re doing that here instead of in Chicago.” He squeezed her hands, tugging her a little closer. “You make me feel alive instead of just living. I don’t want to work extra hours and miss all the new movies and punish myself with shitty old cars because I’m being sensible. I want to be the person you make me feel like. Hopefully that’s a person you want. I don’t know. I don’t have the best track record when it comes to this sort of thing.”
She pursed her lips, blinking rapidly to fight back tears. Something needed to be said, but her throat felt too tight to get a word out. Instead of words, she rose up on her tiptoes to press her lips to Jackson’s, letting his hands go to wrap her arms around his neck.
It took her a few seconds to find her voice, but when she did, the answers were all clear. “I’m not telling you to go away.”
“You’re not?”
She shook her head. Her lips brushed his with the murmured words. “And I love you, too.”
“Good.” He hugged her close to him and kissed her ear. “Now can we continue the rest of this conversation more privately? I hate having an audience.”
Taking pity on him, she led him away to the nearest on-call room, then kissed him again as soon as the door was shut.
He sighed against her lips, one hand cupping her cheek. God, that gesture, so strong and tender—so much like the man.
“So my sister’s getting married in a couple weeks,” he said. “And I’m the best man. Do you want to be my date?”
She laughed softly. “Will there be dancing?”
“Until you dance through your stockings.”
“All right, but then you have to do something for me.”
He leaned back to give her an incredulous look. “I have to bribe you to be my date? How?”
“The next time we have a day off together, we’re going to sit down and marathon through all the movies you still need to see.”
He arched a brow. “I’ve missed a lot of movies…”
“I know. We’ll only stick to the really important, really geeky ones.”
He closed his eyes, shaking his head slowly before lowering himself for a kiss. “The things I do for love.”

Acknowledgments
I have so much gratitude and respect for my editors, Heather Howland and Vanessa Mitchell. Thank you to my copyeditor, Mary Kate Castellani, who saved me from chronic comma neglect. That trick with the ring really does work and I learned how to do it from Dr. Simon Carley at Manchester Metropolitan University. Without my mother’s input and occasionally disturbing stories, I never would have been able to bring UMC to life. My entire world changed while working on this book, but steadfast friends like Maggie and Addison kept my head on through it all. Thanks for all the support.
