Learning to Love Page 13

by Erin Trejo

Micah and I share a glance before kicking the doors open. There they are, with guns trained on us, much like we are with them.

“Jace.” My dad speaks first, a grin on his face. Son of a bitch.

“You ready to pay for what you did?” His eyes dance with amusement as he looks at me.

“You’re outnumbered. There is no way in hell you’re walkin’ out of here.” His smirk slowly fades as he looks around at the guys.

  Huffman isn’t far behind him.

“You are making a huge mistake, Bomber.” Huffman eyes him but Bomber only laughs.

“Julius will ruin you.” Bomber laughs harder before taking a step toward him.

“Julius? The dead one in the hallway? I don’t think he’ll be a problem.”

“All of this for some piece of ass, Jace!” My dad screams. It’s almost comical if we weren’t in this situation.

“A piece of ass? Is that all Mom was to you, too?” His eyes flicker to the rage that I’ve come to know from him.

“You don’t know anything about your mother!” Laughing at him, I take a step closer.

“I know you ruined her. I know you fucked around on her. I know that you put your hands on her. You know what else I know? That was the last motherfuckin’ time you will hurt anything that means somethin’ to me!” As I roar, I pull the trigger before he ever saw it coming. His body drops to the floor as Huffman turns to face me.

“You won’t get away with this!” Shaking my head, I believe we went over this already.

“Again, Huffman? As much as I’d like to make you hurt the way you hurt Trinity, I just want to get home and get her back in my arms. I came in here with revenge on my mind, but you aren’t worth the fuckin’ air that she breathes.” His gun slowly lowers to his side as if he already knows this is it.

I pull the trigger, and watch the bastard fall next to my dad. Micah steps up next to me with a smile.

“Now that’s how we do it!”

“Where’s Basket?” I ask. Glancing over my shoulder, Kane ushers him inside.

“Welcome home, motherfucker,” I say. His grin is so wide I think he might break his face.

“I’ll keep my word, Bullet. You keep yours,” he says. I extend my hand, knowing what we agreed on. I will make sure no one fucks with him just like we planned on.

“Keep a steady flow and I don’t see any problems.” Basket pulls back, eyeing his new office space. It’s funny how you can make things happen when you want to.

Now, there’s only one more thing I need to make happen.

I need to make Mouse mine, forever.

  Chapter 81

  Mouse

My nerves are on edge. I pace the room with Aubrie when we hear the rumble of the bikes. It’s like a weight has been lifted when I hear it.

We both share a glance before she smiles.

“They’re back.” Her grin couldn’t get any wider. I know she feels the same relief that I do. I won’t be fully happy until I see him with my own two eyes.

The room goes silent as we wait. The door finally opens after what feels like forever. The guys come stalking through with Jace at the back, limping. My eyes travel over his body when I see the blood on his leg, but when I drag my eyes back up to meet his, there’s a smile in place.

I run across the room, throwing myself into his waiting arms.

“I was so scared.” Whispering in his ear, he chuckles.

“You never have to worry about me. I’m okay.” His lips roam my neck before I hear Bomber clear his throat.

“We finished what we set out to do, today. Shit’s gonna change around here. The shift in power isn’t gonna be taken lightly. We all know that backlash is always a fuckin’ possibility. We’re gonna celebrate tonight, but we keep our eyes open!” His tone is serious. I watch as he looks around the room at the guys. They all nod their heads in agreement.

Jace pulls me back into his chest, his hands tickling the skin on my stomach.

“I need you.” His words stir an array of emotions inside of me. I lay my head back on his shoulder. His lips roam over my neck before I feel just how hard he is right now.

Turning in his grasp, I look up into those green eyes that steal my breath away every time.

“You have me. All of me.” His lips come down on mine, claiming me in ways I’ve never felt before.

Jace lifts me in his arms. I wrap my legs around his waist as conversation picks back up around us.

“I’m gonna keep you in bed for a month,” he says. He limps toward the room when Aubrie yells.

“Let me look at it, Bullet.” Shaking his head, he smiles at me before yelling back over his shoulder.

“You’re fuckin’ crazy! You can look at it all you want in a month,” he hollers. Aubrie laughs, and so do I. I snuggle into his embrace as he continues to walk.

“Only a month, huh?” I say with a smile. Jace pulls back before I reach behind him for the doorknob.

“You think you can handle me for longer?” I grin at him. God, I love this man.

“I can handle you forever.” The groan that slips past his lips sets my insides on fire.

  “We’ll see about that.”

  Chapter 82

  Bullet

“I think you’re fuckin’ insane,” Dax chuckles next to me. I don’t say shit, just cut my eyes at him. He doesn’t understand though. I need this.

“I think it’s great, Bullet.” Link has been the main one that is excited for me.

“Thanks, Link. Rub off on these fuckers.” Jerking my head at Stryker and Kane, they all laugh.

“Don’t get it fucked up. We’re happy as hell for you, brother. We just didn’t see it comin’ so damn quickly.” I have to agree. I didn’t either, but when I was in that house, I knew. Something inside of me spoke up and I knew that I had to have her forever.

“You boys look handsome.” My mom smiles at all of them. Handsome wouldn’t have been the word I would have chosen.

“You don’t have to lie to them, Mom,” I say. Dax punches me in the chest, making me laugh.

“They do, Jace! And stop trying to go in there. You are making your sister insane,” she says. Shrugging my shoulders, I brush past her and head toward the room where Mouse is getting ready.

“Don’t you dare!” Aubrie narrows her eyes at me.

I hold my hands up in surrender.

“Fine. Fine! I’ll fuckin’ be over there.” She sticks her tongue out at me getting a smile before I head back over to the bar.

I glance around at everything that my mom and sister had done. Aubrie was in charge of decorations, which is amazingly done. I can’t believe that they were able to throw all of this together in such a short amount of time.

What makes me smile even brighter is the fact that Mouse agreed to marry me. Right here, right now. I didn’t give her much notice. I knew what I needed to do.

“You nervous?” Micah stands next to me as my heart hammers in my chest.

“I thought I would be, man, but I’m not. It just feels right,” I tell him. He nods his head with a smile.

“I’m happy for you, Jace. We’ve been through a lot together and I’m damn glad you found someone to settle down with.” He never calls me by my name. I know what he’s saying is from the heart.

“You don’t know what that means to me, Micah.” Pulling me into a hug, I have to say, this man has gotten my ass through some tough shit.

The room grows silent. Micah pulls back and my eyes fall on Mouse.

She stands there, beautifully perfect in every way.

Her eyes shine brightly as she walks toward me slowly. My mom and sister walk behind her smiling brightly.

Mouse stops in front of me as I take her hands in mine.

“I’ve never seen anything as beautiful as you,” I say. Bomber clears his throat before we turn to face him.

“You’re marrying us?” she asks him. Mouse’s eyes twinkle. I can’t stop the chuckle that escapes me.

I’m the fuckin’ jack of all trades here, sweetheart. I don’t do all that mushy shit, though. Jace has somethin’ he wants to say to you,” Bomber says. Her eyes come back to mine and I’m as lost as ever.

“The past is all behind us now. I’ve made sure that your future is safe. I wanna see you flourish, Mouse. I wanna see your wings grow, and you take flight. I want you to do, and be, whatever you want. There is nothin’to hold you back anymore. The only thing I want to ask is—will you take me along for the ride? I can’t imagine my world without you in it.That first day I heard you cry—my heart broke. Every touch of your fingers through that hole cemented a part of you inside of me. I knew then I wasn’t gonna be able to let you go...” I choke up. The guys laugh, but I don’t give a shit. This is real. This is me being real with myself and Mouse.

  Chapter 83

  Mouse

“You’ve taken a lot of risks for me. You’ve put up with a lot of stuff that I’ve thrown at you. You never once made me feel like I didn’t deserve the best. You are the best. I didn’t know at times that I deservedyou—but I can’t imagine being without you either. My life has never been perfect. It was a long hard road. You made that road easier to travel and you’ve opened my eyes to so much happiness. I never knew I could feel this way. I love you, Jace.” His eyes fill with tears that he quickly blinks away.

“Well, then. I suppose that would be my cue. Give her the ring, Bullet.” Nudging him with his elbow, Bomber grins.

Jace pulls a ring out of his pocket, sliding it onto my finger. Tears fall, but this time—for once in my life—they are tears of happiness. Not tears of sorrow or pain.

Aubrie reaches around, passing me a ring. I run my fingers over the cold metal before reaching for Jace’s hand. Sliding it on, my heart leaps into my throat.

“Kiss your woman!” Bomber yells, and everyone laughs.

Jace watches me for a long second before he reaches up, cupping my face in his hands.

“I love you, Trinity. I never want you to forget that,” he says. I push up, our lips touching slightly. My stomach leaps around as butterflies explode inside of me.

I’ve never imagined my life like this. In fact, I’ve never imagined that I would get out of that cell but Jace did it. He pulled me out of a world that was destroying me and brought me into one that is forming me. He raises me up all the time and has always given me options. That wasn’t something I was used to… but I do love about him.

“I love you too, Bullet.” His eyes twinkle as he smiles at me.

“Now, I want to take you up on that forever in the bed thing,” he says. As his lips meet mine, I know this is my forever.
