One Night Page 20

by K. L. Humphreys

This is the happiest day of my life, who would have thought that one night could lead to this?

  Jaxon

My palms are sweating as I wait at the altar in front of all our friends and family, waiting for the love of my life to join me so I can finally officially make her mine.

“You don’t have to be so nervous son,” Pastor Lonnergan whispers as he comes and stands next to me. Dammit, am I being that obvious?

We have gotten close these past few months, and his wife has welcomed me into their lives with open arms. It was hard for her in the beginning, but now we are getting closer every day.

“Uh-hm” Pastor Lonnergan clears his throat before continuing. “Jaxon, I’m so proud of you. You have become a remarkable young man, and I wish I could have been there for you growing up.” He tells me, and I’m struck speechless. “You are marrying a remarkable young woman, and I wish you both a long and happy marriage,”

“Thank you,” I manage to say just as the piano starts playing the traditional ‘here comes the bride’ wedding song.

All the guests stand, and I straighten my tie and face the church double doors. I watch as Liv comes down the aisle dressed in a rose pink elegant gown followed by Mrs B who’s holding both my babies, one on each arm. I smile at their little outfits. Phoebe is dressed in a little pink dress and Phoenix is in the smallest little black suit I’ve ever seen.

  God, I have beautiful children.

My heart beats a mile a minute, and my breath catches in my throat when I finally see Brianne walking into the church and down the aisle on her father’s arm. She is the most beautiful bride I have ever laid eyes on, and I am so thankful that she is about to be mine forever.

She finally reaches the altar, and her dad gives her a peck on the cheek before handing her to me. I take her hand and place a light kiss on it as she comes stand next to me, ready to become Mrs Carter.

I lean in and whisper in her ear. “You look, breath-taking baby,” I can feel her shy smile forming, so I continue. “I am so happy that that one night has led to you becoming the mother of my kids, my forever, my wife.” I kiss her cheek. “I love you Bri,”

She smiles up at me as I take a step back from her. “I love you too,” she mouths to me and just like that, I’m the happiest man on this earth.

  About the Authors

K.L. Humphreys was born in London, England but now lives in Ireland with the love of her life and her baby girl. In a way, the world has him to thank for her Debut Novel Deadly Hunt. After years of thinking about writing the story that had been dying to get out of her head, she finally confided in her other half. He gave her all the encouragement she needed to get the story out, he has been with her every step of the way. K.L. Humphreys loves music, especially pop, R'n'B and rap and if she's writing you will find it playing somewhere nearby. She also loves all romance novels but of course, Romantic Suspense is her go to genre. When she isn't writing it...it's a good bet she is curled up somewhere reading it. If she doesn't have a book in her hand, you might want to check to make sure she isn't sick.

Writing has recently become her second love as she enjoys bringing her own stories to life. There is no better way for her to escape reality than to lose herself in a good romance novel or let her imagination run wild while lying her pants off on paper.
